I think the reason for that is that both wanted to try for that 167 and Higgins especially. Higgins went for at least a couple of reds he wouldn't have normally just to keep the 167 on the cards. You can definitely see alot of the players doing that and it changed how their normally break offs would go. Not saying I'd be any different given that gold ball.

Every allen selby game seems to be much slower than their usual games against other opponents. You have their slowish average shot time generally, granite safety often to get long exchanges with no potting opportunities and then cause they aren’t getting in as often they can put a decent break together when they do knock in the first one half the time. For of the best ever and a top 3 player in the world currently they definitely seem to bring each other down when they play each other
