I had a portion of my family live in an >100 year old house (it had a maid/slave quarters) somewhere in Georgia, USA and was gradually filled with my great grandparent's many ornaments and antiques. While not to the point where it's landfilling, you could tell that it was packed to brim with old stuff, even for a big house. There were 3 main sections to the house: The front half of the house complete with 2 bedrooms, the small observatory foyer just in front, the living room, and a kitchen. There was an entire back section dedicated for more bedrooms, a secondary living room, and 2 bathrooms. This was seperated with a heavily windowed "middle section" which you would use if you wanted to reach the overgrown backyard. I think that middle part also served as a conservatory due to it being mostly made of windows and having many plants. If you were outside, you would also be able to see a workshop in the same property, complete with metalworks. Resident Evil 7 brough back memories of my childhood walking through the old southern mansion at the middle of the night. It's a special feeling, although my relatives of course weren't mutated psychos, and there was alot more dogs into the equation, it's still has that eerie familiarity to it that you can truly admire when in a similar enviroment

Great video! As a person who's lived in Eastern Europe their whole life, the depiction of the village felt surreal. Small details and overall atmosphere felt very authentic... until I heard any of the townspeople speak 😂 Proper british accents in a place like this instantly took me out of the experience and I wish Capcom committed 100% to this setting. Like this it comes off a bit like window dressing, like if you would've looked behind the laced curtain and instead of a backyard view you saw a wall of bricks.

Hii! That ritual you recalled from your childhood is colloquialy known as 'Salivanje Strave' in Serbia and in it, usually an older woman drops a teaspoon of liquid lead into a dish filled with cold water and when it makes the contact with water it solidifies in a crystal of sorts and the sharp shape of the solidified lead is interpreted as a physical embodiment of fear that "left" your body Ofc it works primarily as a placebo thingy

@@eurothug4000 Yeah, I guess majority of the locals at least heard of it, if not witnessed it themselves. Of course, they don't think about it literally nowadays, but it just kinda exists in the intersection of folklore and a way to relieve anxiety, while talking to an old lady, weird as it may sound xD This was unusually wholesome for an internet interaction, I guess there is some intrinsic wholesomeness in helping someone understand something so specific about such an isolated and strange event from their childhood :)) Anyways, best of luck!!

Being born and raised in Croatia, I fully relate to what you said about "hanging out with family members and chickens" (literally). I would also add that during summertime, I often found myself with few peers around and spent much time with my grandparents and their generation. I honestly believe that some component of growing up in Southeastern/Eastern Europe makes as appreciate horror game aesthetics and atmosphere to a deeper extent (with Forbidden Siren, Silent Hill, and Resident Evil being my favorites). Now I appreciate your channel even more, great to know you have links to Serbia :) Also, from my childhood memories - stoves and cooking pots ✓, outhouses ✓, lace curtains ✓ and white plastic chairs ✓ (they are everywhere!!). Only cornfields are nowhere to be found in Dalmatia though.

I had a fun time with this game because while I typically don't enjoy horror games (although my roommates watch me play the RE2 remake because I get very weird when im scared lol, although I'm having fun its not a punishment) I really enjoyed watching my roommates play this game because I am of Romanian descent and speak some of the language. It was really fun when my roommate would look at something and ask some variation of the question "is this a Romanian thing?" And I would answer or look it up online. Or they would often have me translate the maps, or ask what certain things in Romanian were called. It honestly made the experience surprisingly even more fun for me!
@Ludwis9 ай бұрын
I'm most likely reading too much into this but I wouldn't be the first: the animation that comes to my mind when thinking about RE4R is when Leon opens a double door pushing with his body mass, something I believe inherited from Village. That action leads me to think about how the Souls series may have influenced Village not only with that gesture when opening routes to new domains, also in the map structure, some ancestral monster attack animations, the settings that tell a story but with a more prominent style, rich imagery and ornamental detail, or how the remains of enemies, scattered objects and writings (from a few days or hundreds of years ago) are presented, certain musical themes, the messages of "Michael" in Shadows of Rose even reminded me of the summoning marks left by other players. It's Resident Evil, so it has more influences inside and outside the franchise. For me Village has been a compelling discovery on par with RE4 and RE7 back in the day, refreshing and creative like few others while maintaining those details that make it Resident Evil.

yo this is so good. The orthodox symbolism is strikingly accurate, wow. I think one of my favorite things about these sorts of village cultures, which you kinda touched on, is the odd paring of strict orthodox iconography with unique cultural folk elements. Growing up hearing stories from my grandparents about their lives in “the old country”, it was always funny to notice how devoutly religious they were while simultaneously being very spiritually superstitious. One minute Nonna’s praying to big J, the next she’s hanging things in the doorways to ward of evil sicilian witches or something lol. This sort of setting and culture seems like the perfect place to root an unsettling Resi4-esque horror game. Kudos for using this an excuse to explore your own background 🙌

I never realized how much a game that takes environmental and cultural influences from the place I live could effect me before I played Generation Zero. It didn’t just look like places I had been to - I could practically feel the cold winds and the light rays of sunshine as I walked through the trees and shores. It was so familiar, to the point that it was slightly banal, but it was also kind of magical. It was like relieving my memories of the summers I spent in the south of Sweden as a kid - only with slightly more angry robots. I appreciate how you not only opened my eyes regarding the influences used in RE Village, but reminded me why seeing your home be represented in a video game is so meaningful.
