Probably ahead of their time for Eurovision. I've noticed that more serious and well written songs have become more popular in the last few years, while 2007-2009 were for the most part extremely weird. The noughties were pretty much all about drums and dancing (I would say that some of the Balkan countries gave us some quality, though). The 80s were shallow and simple, the 90s were pretty serious and now we're back to serious again.

Ukraine, Serbia and Latvia are some of the fastest winners. Latvia debuted in 2000 and won 2002, Serbia won their debut year and Ukraine won next year after debut. I wouldn't really count those first years of Eurovision into this because statistically winning was that much easier and somebody had to win anyway so to say

As far as the EBU are concerned, Serbia was a completely new country in 2007, despite having previously entered as part of Serbia & Montenegro, and part of Yugoslavia.

The trouble with the first ever ESC in 1956 is that the seven participating countries had two songs each, and Switzerland won with the SECOND song it performed that night, that being "Refrain". The first ever song that Switzerland performed, "Das Alte Karussel", did not win. Serbia won with its first ever entry as an independent nation in 2007, but that statistic ignores years they entered as part of Serbia & Montenegro, and part of Yugoslavia.
