I can confirm that you weren't the only German quite displeased with the actual results of Eurovision 1984. I watched it as it unfolded in a communal room at Giessen University, and, sadly, I have to report that leftover pizza was thrown at the TV set in open defiance of student regulations, as the scores came in. Italy was indeed the no.1 choice, (other than Mary Roos, natch). I was terribly shocked by it all, of course, although everyone WAS impressed by British style and fashion sense, I seem to remember.

After an amazing 1983, 1984 is a big disappointment for me. For me, there's only one winner and it's Italy. No surprise. I rank Finland higher than the majority of fans. Perfect lyrics about what happens when you miss the last train home, have to spend the night at the train station waiting for the first train the next morning and having so much fun that you also miss the first train the next morning. And the party continues all day long. My top 11. 1. Italy 2. Finland 3. Ireland 4. Sweden 5. Denmark 6. Spain 7. Cyprus 8. Portugal 9. Yugoslavia 10. Türkiye 11. France
