1997: My birth year, and the last of the Irish-held contests (for now). And wow, what a fantastic year it is, both in songs and in production. My top eight are among my favorite songs of all-time, and most of the field is very good, with only Germany as a "black sheep", in my opinion. I don't think that Mysterious Woman should've been the runner-up, and the interval was meh, but it combines Eurovision in the 1990s with some inklings of the future. And I love it! Also, I had three winners at one point, and was only recently able to cut it down to two. (Honorable mention to the Netherlands, which is my 11th place that year. 😊) 1 pt: BIH 2 pt: FRA 3 pt: SLO 4 pt: POL (As of the 2020 songs, it hasn't. I loved two songs since then (their 2014 and 2017 entries), but nothing else captures the whimsy and spirit that Ale Jestem does). 5 pt: ISL (Interesting ranking; I think the charm is in its innovative performance for the contest. It took me a while to appreciate the actual song, but I do like the lyrics and the dark overall vibes in it. Also, the orchestration fit the song very well--who said that modern music can't be improved live?) 6 pt: RUS 7 pt: CYP (Another one we disagree with--while the bridge is the most notable part, I liked the entire vibe of the song, and made it a good opener.) 8 pt: GBR - Definitely the greatest of their winners, and one of my favorites ever. It conveys such positive energy, and the melody is something you hear and then start waving a light around. I'm surprised it won in the landslide they did, but it's still great! 10 pt: TUR - We agree on this placing, haha! i don't have anything else to say about it--it's entrapping and classic and all kinds of awesome. 12 pt: ITA - I wonder why you think it's a shame that this is the most well-known 1990s Italian entry? (You also didn't seem to like Insieme, which is my other favorite Italian entry.) To defend it, it's probably because it was the last entry for fourteen years, but it wouldn't be seen as such of the song is really really good. The melody flows well, and the lyrics really tell the story of the relationship. (And in a random bit of trivia, it's the first time a Sanremo winning song was in Eurovision since 1972).

As for Italy, for me their 91, 92, and 93 songs were just perfect, and they ended on such a high note. Then they accidentally ended up in 1997, and again they sent an amazing song, but I definitely don't like it as much as those others, so it sort of ruins the streak. I get why people love this so much, and I wish there was that kind of love for Sole d'Europa aswell.

@@eurovisionconnor I love Rapsodia and that's my favorite of 1992. I also like Comme o doce e mare--it's romantic and sweet, but ends up a bit lower than the strongest songs of 1991. As for Sole d'Europa, it's nice, but I can't help thinking that Enrico's Sanremo-winning song that year would be better.

Greece this year is one of my all time favorite Eurovision entries! On my playlist still today! I remember maybe I was 12. when this Eurovision was live on tv and I was immediately hypnotised by her and this song in this age. 😁♥️

The Netherlands is also my 3rd- so underrated in the contest and I'm glad it got justice in Eurovision Again. Also great winner choice! Ale jestem is probably my favourite ever Polish entry (my 2nd of this year, with UK being first)

A stronger year of a stronger decade... Imo every decade was strong with its fair share of stuff, but the 70s was the worst... Ireland and the uk would have been joint winners if I had it my way.

25- I really like the energy of this song 24- An awful rip off of the Spice Girls 23- I like the Hungarian Boyzone 22- Quite plain but sweet 21- Not a very memorable song 20- I really like his voice and the emotion in it 19- Overrated but I like it 18- Eek! Everything about this freaks me out 17- Not an amazing song and her voice is pretty weak 16- This makes me very relaxed, really sweet 15- This is good. It definitely builds up and it works 14- It gets annoying quite quickly. Not a great advertisement for San Francisco 13- I like her voice but I rather 1996 12- Very sad but a sweet song 11- I love everything about this. So beautiful 10- It's catchy but pretty basic 9- God she's a diva. Good song but it's not for me 8- Oh god. The awful Danish rapper. I could give you such a long list of hates here 7- She's got a good voice and I rather this to 1994 6- It's sweet but quite forgettable 5- I like the music and the song is relaxing 4- Our entry, well is there much I can say. Such a feel good song and now a large anthem 3- My favourite, I see very few people put this high so I'm glad you did. This is my style of music and I love all of it 2- Turkey no2?! It's a great song but a tiny bit overrated in my humble opinion 1- It feels like something out of a Disney movie, very enchanting

@Unsavory Fate oh wow. I used to quite like it when I first heard it, but it began to get quite irritating for me, quite quickly. I currently have it in 19th place. However, I much prefer their entry from 1998, which I have in 9th place.

Hello it's not oboe on stage in the German entry it's soprano saxophone Ps. For me the Norwegian entry is the 2nd worst after Aldri I livet with Finn Kalvik from 1981. Nothing but cheap,not a great performance and lyrics are well pretty hard to listen to if you are not native Norwegian.
