The song is AMAZING, probably one of the best of the year, but it *is* pretty... “out there”, and I think the live performance was not as good as the studio version promised, and the staging was weird and didn’t really fit the song well (in my opinion)... I think they just wound up screwing too many things up overall, which is a shame considering how good the actual song is

Axt im Walde She ranked her list reversed. So her least favourite got her 12 points. This happened to Lina Hedlund( Sweden) in the second semi final too. A Russian judge had this too. And a few years ago a Danish jury did It too.

Hehehehe this is so funny. At the same time with watching this video I was running through the results, I saw this discrepancy (of 4 Czechs ranking Slovenia as 1st and the fifth one as 16th) but I didn't take any notice. Then I came here and read this comment, went back to the results and ....gee that was fun! (and fancy! it was the chairperson herself who had that different approach on the matter, poor lady, she must have been very anxious to pull it through)

Afonso Fonseca Yes But that werent Belarusian points. It were averages from other countries. I guess ebu decided to reverse them, but that was so unfair. Also the Belarusian jury was just stupid for exposing their results before the show.

So shocked how low Portugal came. How did it score less with the juries than Finland AND Montenegro. Obviously people were not ready for HIGH ART. So disappointed.

What I find strange is that juries look for radio-friendly songs, they really should listen to the quality of the songs. The public can decide what they want on the radio and they want for example the song of Norway. Portugal should have more points, Estonia much less (not sure if he sung as bad as in the public semi final); IMO these are the tasks of the juries! Also the organizers should be able to disqualify juries like Serbia! And what to think of the jury of Russia, who in the final did not give any point to their supposed opponent favorites: ZERO points to Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland, Sweden, or even top 10 entries like Norway or Australia. there should be a black list of juries.

The fact that Portugal didn't qualify is an absolute PHARCE. Conan's vocals have improved so much over the course of the contest, and compared to SOME PEOPLE on the night (I'm fucking looking at you Serhat), he did an amazing job, not to mention the song is in my top 2 favourites from this year :/ Portugal has been robbed, you have my condolences from Denmark.

Actually Poland was meant to be in the final and have a higher jury vote (I know how impossible that sounds) but due to a flipped score of a czech juror they didn't

Hatari winning televote was pretty obvious. They were too good. Also not surprised by Estonia in 3rd. Its simplicity really stood out. I'm also very pleased with Slovenia. Sebi was magical.

I am absolutely enraged with the fact that some national juries didn't get any points to their major competitors - like Russia giving zero to the Netherlands and Italy. And if I remember correctly, Italy gave 0 to the Netherlands... Thi is unacceptable.

I am still in favor for this 50/50 jurors/televot voting system , but the EBU has got to do something about the quality of the jurors. I mean how hard can it be to simply fill in a form ? and the strategic and political votes have to punished. All jurors putting Montenegro at first. The 12 points exchange between Cyprus and Greece that is going on for years and years... it has got to stop. NOW. And I think 5 jurors for one country is too little , At least 12 people should vote.

So you are concerned about the 12 points exchange between Cyprus and Greece, but you don't really care or talk about the ridiculous favouritism juries show every year to Sweden, or the 12 points exchange between the Scandinavian countries or the ex-Soviet union countries. You don't mention Romania and Moldova, or Serbia and Montenegro and a lot of other examples. At least Cyprus and Greece can be justified since they speak the same language and considered by many as the same country. A lot of times Greece send Cypriot artists and the opposite around. And it would be funny if Greece didn't give 12 points to Tamta or Foureira since they are 2 of the biggest names in Greece! Now for next year lets all save some of out booing for some of Sweden's 12 points presents from their friends and neighbours!

Yes, maybe the last 2 years the quality of Greece and Cyprus are good, but there has been years.... I dont get the hate for Sweden. They send great quality every year since Loreen , The songs are good, the singers are great and the performances are of HUGE quality. Of course the juries will love that.

I did it for you since you seem to be so sure you know everything about the Greece/Cyprus situation: 2015: Cyprus gave 8 points to Greece and Greece gave 10 points to Cyprus 2016: Greece jury gave 8 points to Cyprus (Greece was not in the final) 2018: On the semifinal Greece jury gave only 7 points to Foureira and Cyprus gave 8 points to Greece. Now lets try to compare those votes that Greece and Cyprus give to each other with the exchange of votes happening between all of the Scandinavian countries and ex-Soviet union countries. At least Cyprus and Greece are just 2 countries. As for the quality of songs everybody has their own taste on music, who are you to judge if a song is quality in my ears or not! Sweden this year in my opinion was just plain boring, not even trying it they chose a mediocre cheesy love song with a mediocre cheesy singer and put on stage some ladies covering up his cheesiness with even more cheese!

All of the soul and beauty Portugal had during the National Final was lost at Eurovision. The should have just copy pasted like Sweden does. Happy Greece did well in the Semi. Katerine deserved better in the Final. Eliot's song was good but the staging was all wrong.

Honestly as a Portuguese person I'm just done, we've been working hard, we promoted the song to make sure it went to Eurovision, Salvador got recognition but it really doesn't make up for the rest of the 50+ years of trying different types of songs and failing 90% of the time (And I admit a majority of them weren't good, which just hurts even more with the quality we've been sending now). Eurovision is always up for more comercial and English songs and there's nothing we can change about that. But yh tbh at this point I really don't think there's much more we can do, if we had sent a song like Iceland or Slovenia we wouldn't have gone through as well, no matter how many pre parties, promotion, interviews we would have done.

I guess the point with Telemoveis is, it is such a ungeneric song this really could have gone both ways. Either the juries and televotes love the originality and creativity of the song, or the song is just too far from mainstream to identify with it. I guess the last is what primarily happened with the voters, including myself I'm afraid. You took a gamble and it didn't work this time, but hopefully it doesn't prevent you from coming back next year with another surprising song!

@@Delvenaer I agree but the thing is, B o t t o m of the jury vote, like, even if you don't like the song, his singing was pretty good(albeit shaky due to nerves, but so was everyones performance). It's the easy comparison at this point but San Marino's Serhat sang whole verses out of tune, and he gets more jury points than us? That doesn't make any sense from a technical standpoint. I would have been fine with it not qualifying if it at least the juries made an effort to recognise it's value. You can't just tell me musical "professionals" are to be trusted when they don't reward a song and performer for brining something new and being better vocally than other artists. So much praise from so many last year when we hosted about how "beautiful Fado is" and we finally brought a Fado like voice and it flops this hard? It's just so sad. And the thing of "it could have gone both ways, you either love it or hate it" actually applies to more generic pop than we think, usually at Eurovision I either love or hate most songs due to how hit or miss they can be due to the genres. So while our song was divisive, aren't they all? They all get the same amount of backlash or praise, especially the ones that end up in top 5. Just look at the comments on Iceland's performance.

The stage presentation was bad imho and I like the song which saddens me but I do agree that Portugal has been robbed so many times like in 1996, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2015 and 2018. Televoting allegiances is well known in Eurovision, the annual shouts of disgust from the crowd when Greece and Cyprus give each other a 12 is now part of the show. However, Serbia to give Montenegro a 12 was BONKERS. Granted Serbia has 8 neighbouring countries but only Montenegro and Hungary were in this draw luckily for Serbia otherwise they would not have had the points to go around all their pals. 12 for Montenegro though was going a bit far too show how pally you are with your neighbours. I am surprised as the chairperson of Serbia judge is well known Sanja Ilic who was involved with Serbia's entry last year and one time rocker, I feel should have judged with a little more taste.

You’ve mentioned that jurors have their names published so it’s hard for them to go against the expectations of their fellow countrymen for fear of criticism. For example a Greek juror who did not support Cyprus would be called out and vice versa. This needs to be rethought by the EBU

I don't remember the 2004 2005 2006 and 2012 songs , but if I had to guess, "Telemóveis" was a better song in general than those. Portuguese people actually liked Conan's song, and were confident that it would do a good job at Eurovision, but this happened. It's really strange.

Greece got lucky in the semi with Cyprus, Serbia, Montenegro, Georgia, San Marino and Slovenia (6 countries who pretty consistently give Greece votes). I do like the song though.

The poor jury voting on Portugal felt like a statement. Like, 'get this stuff the hell out of here'. Like you said, let's hope this doesn't make them giving up on these daring entries. Saw an instagram story from Conan Osiris today with a print from Billboard which sheds light to the fact Portugal has been the most avant-garde country on Euroivision in the last times. Hopefully they'll keep this style even though this is the second disappointment in a row.

Come on... the Jury vote to Portugal was absolutely insane! 8 points only??? Only Juries of 4 countries voted for Portugal and the highest point was 3 points from Cyprus?? For years people say Portugal sends "outdated" music... and we send an artistic and original track to be absolutely destroyed by the Jury. @@axt6570 I think the confusion is normally they're dead last (Azerbaijan put Armenia 17th in both), so the fact Azerbaijan was 1 spot away from getting a televote from Armenia was interesting.

The Azeri government tracks people that vote for Armenia and sends the police to interrogate them for “betraying their nation”, it happened already in 2009, that’s why literally nobody there votes for Armenia.

I looked up what countries have now been the longest out of the final - Montenegro was in 2015 last time in the final, Georgia and Latvia were last time in the final 2016. Hope they all qualify next year.

Iceland - Justified, Eurovision fans love different, and the production is not bad Australia - Justified, again, she was different and gave a memorable Eurovision staging Estonia - Song goes off, the arena to storm part got to the public San Marino - Eurovision fans felt bad from 2016 so they got him through this year Slovenia - Quality song, love it, different too and just a nice change of pace Czech Republic - Justified, it's a good song but probably everyone's 3rd or 4th option which was why it was low in the televote Serbia - Would have swapped it with CR, this song POPS and the AR is so COOL! Again not everyone's fave song, probs 4th or 5th option Belarus - Justified, the song is not the best, but I love it, the girl got VOCALS and has a friendlier sound than Poland, @ Greece - To be honest, most people I know really don't like her voice sadly and said the song isn't as amazing, very very different. I like it but I knew some of the public weren't a fan, Eurofans saved her Cyprus - Justified (kinda) - Her song pops, radio-friendly, staging slayed but fans were probably thinking its too FUEGO 2.0 as oppose to She Got Me, She Got Me is not Fuego at all compared to this song, but also running order probably hurt it

Belarus was terrible. I agree with the public on that 1. Stage was overcrowded with crappy props, the dancing was meh...and Zena’s vocals were soooo bad. Screechy and whaley.

They are causing regional voting because they're even more likely to vote for neighbours than the public and especially more likely to not vote for certain countries (Georgian jury putting Russia dead last). And they do not push talented artists, as one example shows: To the 6 songs that were entirely self-composed by the performer (Serbia/Iceland/Slovenia and Finland/Portugal/Austria), they gave 38, 48, and 46 points to in the final, as well as 9, 8, and 21 to the other 3 in their semi-finals. Finland is a random one there, because it was objectively not a good composition, but there are countless other examples that show that juries are just clueless and don't really know what they're doing in there. The vast majority are not "music experts" by any means, and some have a clear political agenda.

I think Belarus was the most overrated song in the entire comp. That it went through over Hungary, Poland or Portugal is a real shame. I love dance songs too but there were much better ones this year.

I'm so happy that Estonia finished third with televote :D But i wonder why Victor didn't do so well in the actual grand final with the televote, maybe he got lost in the running order in the grand final ... ??? I mean... he got a lot of televotes in the semi-final so i find it strange that "storm" didn´t stand out enough in the grand final. :(

Agree that those countries u r wrote was robbed, but what to do if they all are good&great, but somebody somehow should be lower - competition,yes! For me Portugal was just unlistenable, could not engage with the song and even though I expected them to make the final, I wasn't surprised when they didn't make the final; there were too many weird, abstract, non-commercial, controversial and divisive songs in Semi-1 (Portugal, Iceland, Slovenia, Georgia and Poland) that it was inevitable that some wouldn't make the cut.

Iceland song is a matter of taste take the image out of it ..I don’t like scream singing the chorus and melody was fantastic but screaming is not everyone cup of tea..Portugal is actually commercial (change the imagery) and people will get it have a video with dancers and a storyline..no way people won’t get it

Yes, it's a matter of taste for public. But juries shouldn't be given points according to their taste. They should judge a whole package. They didn't like BDSM costumes? Ha ha. That's so personal. Costumes were outstanding as rest of this act
