Eurovision is the biggest holiday of the year for me, and for many who live in my country (Iceland). I basically live for Eurovision and have watched every competition that is available. I’ve always found it funny to think about that millions of people find Eurovision weird or “too gay”, and since Eurovision is one of my biggest passions some also find me to be weird 💀 honestly I don’t care anymore. I’ve been in this community since 2012 and won’t let anyone stop me from being in this community until the day I die, and I encourage everyone to do the same no matter their hobby. If you enjoy dressing in drag then go for it, don’t let hate stop you. Also this is probably the best introduction to Eurovision video I’ve seen since it’s short but informative, mad respect.

Мне, как русской уже третий год от знакомых прилетает один и тот же вопрос: зачем ты смотришь, наши же даже не участвуют. Но как и было сказано в видео, евровидение это не о том, чтобы топить за своих (в это нет ничего плохого прощу заметить), а в первую очередь о музыке и ее разнообразии. Как пример, до сих пор слушаю певицу Elena, которая представляла Румынию в 2009. Maneskin тоже залетели в плейлист из-за их участия в евровидении (как и многие-многие другие). Просмотр евровидения это уже приятная привычка/традиция, не знаю даже, что подходит больше. Поздравляю Украину с третьим местом, абсолютно заслуженно, выступление было завораживающим

I did my senior presentation on Eurovision and recently I searched up a short video introducing it to play during my presentation. I stumbled upon a Ben Shapiro video and holy shit there was so much hate and homophobia in that video and its comments. While I myself don’t really understand what drives someone to identify outside of their birth sex, I can respect their decision and opinions and freedom to do so. I hope I never become like a single person in that comment section.

Let me chime in too as a Hungarian. Hate the government (we do too) don't hate us. I'll be probably one of many to say that we want Hungary back in the competition. It sucks to watch the show year after year and having to root for countries like Italy or Switzerland when I could be rooting for my own. (Obviously no offence to Italy or Switzerland they were ny faves this year)

I think a LOT of people wanna see Hungary back in the competition, it's one of my favorite ESC countries and Origo, Viszlát nyár and Az én apám were my favorite/winner in their respectable year. I really like every Hungarian eurovision song of this century except maybe 2008, 2009 and 2011. So yeah, hope Hungary can return as soon as possible and bring us more amazing songs

Funny, because Hungary started out as the most progressive and 'western' country of the Eastern European countries (back in the 1990's). But it's turned into the most repressive of the lot, and the most 'Soviet' like. Even more now than either Bulgaria or Romania.

Some people watch Eurovision because of the literal shit hurricane that can come out of it, especially this year with how politics being so woven into how the votes and actions made by contestants, delegations and the EBU being made. I just find it a bit sad because I watch Eurovision because I genuinely enjoy a lot of the songs and performances. For example, this year, my top 3 in terms of just songs all made it to finals, with Kaleen's We Will Rave from Austria, Dons' Hollows from Latvia, and Estonia's song (I don't know Estonian and the song literally has 50+ characters holy hell I'm sorry). Meanwhile performance wise, San Marino, Ireland and Ukraine stood out and hit a chord so much that I watch the live performance rather than the music videos now. Tl;dr I watch Eurovision for the songs and performances only, but politics have been so woven into the contest that I can't watch or get involved with it without people assuming if I like a song I am definitely in a political spectrum.

Eurovision was the name of the broadcasting company in Switzerland that had the idea back in the 1950s. It's a contest for the broadcasters, not the countries. Some non-European countries have been invited, like Egypt, Israel, Morocco, Algeria and Australia.

Russia wasnt banned initially it was only after Member Broadcasters such as the one from estonia,finland etc threatened to boycott after which the EBU(they are responsible for organizing eurovision) decided to ban them for good, however none of the broadcasters did the same thing to israel 7 months ago which is why they havent been banned

Russia started the war against Ukraine, and unlike popular belief, Israel did NOT start the war against Hamas (which is also completely different than Palestine WHICH IS ALSO not an officially recognised country WHICH IS ALSO not taking part in Eurovision, all of these are unlike Ukraine which is an officially recognised country, it does take part in Eurovision AND it didn't start the war)

It's still nice to have a good song but the winner is always political, there is a reason why Sweden, Ireland and Ukraine have won so many times. Although, for my country (the UK), Europe hates us politically and our songs are all so bad compared to everyone else (except Sam Ryder).
