As for Georgia and Azerbaijan, they are at least on the very border between Asia and Europe (Caucasus (Kavkaz) Mountains are one of the borders between the continents). Armenia is the only country you mentioned to be fully in Asia since it's just sliiightly below the demarcation line, but they are close enough and culturally very close to Georgia and Russia for it to feel wrong to leave them out. Israel on the other hand is WAYYY OUTSIDE the European continent and geographically it would make more sense to include Syria, Lebanon or Morocco even before them.

As far as UEFA is concerned. My understanding is that Israel come under that umbrella because it would be too complicated from a security point of view for them to play within the same federation as their neighbours. Seems like a sensible reason if true, but certainly does not explain why they are included in Eurovision. Europe is considered a continent by most people, but it’s neither a separate landmass, nor a separate geological unit. The only reason we say it’s a continent is because the Ancient Greeks divided the world around Greece as such. And while yes, Africa is connected to Asia (ignoring Suez Canal), and the Americas are connected (ignoring Panama canal), their link is very narrow. Europe is connected to Asia through the entire North-South length of Russia. So I’m convinced that Europe is not a continent, but a peninsula in Asia/Eurasia. Some might argue that Europe is a continent because it’s culturally/geopolitically distinct. But I’d say that applies to many regions like the Indian subcontinent or the Middle East. Edit: my point is that there is no non-arbitrary definition of continent that would apply to Europe. It’s not a separate landmass, or has its own tectonic plate, or the only culturally distinct region in its landmass.

Europe is connected to Asia through the entire North-South length of Russia. So I’m convinced that Europe is not a continent, but a peninsula in Asia/Eurasia. Some might argue that Europe is a continent because it’s culturally/geopolitically distinct. But I’d say that applies to many regions like the Indian subcontinent or the Middle East. Edit: my point is that there is no non-arbitrary definition of continent that would apply to Europe.
