As someone who drives an EV for work, I would highly recommend having one of the gauges being 'charge level' as while the range calculations are handy for casual use, they are an unreliable metric when you are going on journeys with enough distance where you come across different driving environments.

Algorithm brought me here so I guess you're doing something right. Thanks for the video, very nice. I subbed, this is the kind of content I'm consuming right now - algorithm is on point, and fresh! My argument these days is if I'm camping 100 miles in the middle of nowhere (Oregon, USA) that I can make electricity but I can't make gas - I don't know why everyone isn't doing this, gas is expensive and smells bad in the can and in the air. Even if I had to wait a couple days, I wouldn't starve or dehydrate to death before I got another 4 hours of run time (I find it's easier to speak of battery power more like a plane measure fuel - in time expected left to ride) and I honestly wish I could see a display that showed expected run time based on ride history since last charge and expected run time based on your present burn rate. Averaging saved torque values over time and current torque values during the ride would also be helpful in profiling my system behavior. I am still unsure if I am going to make a full size car build; I have an array of PEV (large and small, 1, 2, and 3 wheeled) that are serving needs and if I need to go bigger (I'm disabled) tentative plan is to acquire most of a Yamaha Tricities or Piaggio MP3 husk and make a touring PEV with sizeable fairings and aerodynamic/stowage features like lighter velos (I have two already). "Kei" style trucks are illegal to drive on public roadways in Oregon (USA) but I want to do a EV conversion on one just to use around the property - there aren't any husks around and I don't want to break one - regular utility vehicles start around 6k USD and decent ones easily top 13k USD and you'd still need to add options you wanted. There really aren't any decently useable/reliable EV utility vehicles under 20k USD (check videos on the smaller extra cheap ones from online sites, if you don't want lead batteries, there's a significant upcharge for LiPo packs). The best I've seen is electric forklifts have been around forever and that's about it; they are well supported, however, which is nice.

Mmmm interesting video ...I have been a Mini affection-ado for some 55 yrs (got my first one back in 1970). I have been monitoring this subject (ie MINI EV CONVERSIONS) for some time now ... in the past the 'elephant in the room' has been the attitude of kit manufacturers to limit the sales of kits to 'approved workshops' only ... this very much limits the sales to people with vast amounts of money ... a recent quotation obtained from your Australian kit (Feltern/Jaunt) supplier/installer for a mini conversion was at over AUD$100,000 not including the base car ! which frankly is ridiculous ... yes I understand the concern for product liability and safety issues ... BUT ... there are lots of very well qualified technically capable folk out there that would love to build up an EV Mini but will not even consider it due to too high cost or technical sales restrictions ... and that issue will either make or break your success.
@fatso84372 ай бұрын
Yeah, it's a market for the super rich at the moment and these start-ups are cashing in on the rich for the time being. Still, that is about $30-40K worth of kit he's showing off - EV conversion is not cheap. And if you start dealing with high V (over 60V) it's dangerous too!

The full bolt in kit is £30,000 plus vat. Fellten UK will install the kit with you to save cost. The reason for this is it but be don’t properly and brand damage is a big risk for companies supplying to DIY until the dvla bring in standard and testing.

The team at Fellten are happy to help fit a kit if you buy from them. You would need a good sample of a Mini to start with.

This is for people who are not really requiring to consider costs. You potentially end up with a nice classic looking mini but it will cost you double the price of a more capable EV that's a couple of years old and that you could buy tomorrow ... with remaining 6 years of the 8 year battery/motor warranty. Financially the other EV is a no brainer ... if you are desperate for a lovely mini conversion and nothing else will please you, and you have the money, then this conversion is a great option.

Shame the heater doesn't use the drivetrain's waste heat. Feels like it could, pretty readily, with resistive trim heat when the system's cold. Heated seats would probably be the place to start, all that said.

£30k just for the kit? Add the work and set up… makes it £45k maybe ?? Who is this aimed at? Only asking because for some time there have been old classic car conversions for below £10k cost in total. The French company TransitionOne sold kits for less than €7k with a government subsidy, for six different models. Because of the pandemic, cost of living crisis and the lack of popular as well as infrastructure support they have stopped trading due to reluctance of take up. For less I can buy a 3year old Porsche Tycan from a dealer with a warranty.
@Hazell_NutzАй бұрын
There was no way TransitionOne was ever going to be viable business model. The idea was great but not possible maybe a few years too early. Fellten make about 20 per year and they go to high net worth customers. Issue is to develop such as system costs hundreds of thousands of pounds. This was heavily funded by BMW Mini.

@MrAdopado2 ай бұрын
You correct, of course (well, not quite as the full kit would be £30,000 apparently). Nobody claimed this is a cheap way to get an EV ... people see that it's a kit and wrongly make that assumption. There are some superb modern EVs available that can now be bought secondhand, low mileage, for less than half what you would pay for this. This is a great option for those who can afford to upgrade a classic car ... but that's not what the man in the street is generally looking for!
