This is a follow up video. You can watch part 1 here: • EV Problems Part 1: My...
In this video I continue the story of problems I've been having with my EV, a Nissan Ariya. We pick up the story a few weeks after part 1 (but don't worry because I give a full recap of what happened in that first part). I talk about what Nissan have done to fix my problems.
I also visit a brand new charging hub that isn't open yet but I have a snoop about and I get to drive an EV I haven't driven before.
Thanks for watching, subscribing and liking. And please share this video and channel with your friends as that's what encourages me to make more content.

I like your social experiment. I've noticed that viewers are really looking for confirmation bias. People who don't like the idea of EV's for whatever reason are clicking the videos about the slow down in sales, EV fires and the high cost of replacing two Hyundai batteries in Canada. Here in the US it has sadly gotten very political which means minds are getting closed on both sides.

It's been like that here too for quite some time. One day a newspaper will run a story about how no-one's buying EVs any more and then next day they'll say that there aren't enough rapid chargers available for all the EVs that are being sold. Their hypocrisy knows no bounds... I firmly believe that the move to EVs and other green technologies is now unstoppable whatever the fossil fuel industry tries to do about it. Thanks for watching!

As an owner of 2 x diesel owners, I agree EV's are getting a hammering at the moment. The vast majority does appear to be unwarranted. However, the habitual narrative about how EV's save you money is egregious and situational at best. The genuine barriers to mass adoption, beyond the initial 1st wave affluent owners are (as I see them) 1. Price / spec parity with ICE cars. In particular, with those 10's of millions of ICE owners, who don't regularly replace their 3 year old car or pay >£450pm on leases etc. An awful lot of owners in 7-13k 2nd or 3rd hand motors. 2. Charging. The demographic for those who are able to home charge in the UK was 52% according to a recent survey. What I feel that ignores is how many of those 52% live in rented accommodation, and wouldn't be willing to pay £500-750 for a charger, only to move or be evicted 2 years later. I'd suggest only ~35% are fortunate enough to do so under their own control, and to take advantage of sub 9pkwh pricing. The rest are left paying a premium and the additional inconvenience given how hectic and limited ppl's time is these days. Yes, the latest greatest EV can charge at 350kwh, but they are high end premium EV's and you also pay through the nose for said speeds at the 'pump' This isn't viable nor attractive to the demographic I'm referring to. 3. The battery. Not referring to range, but the fact in order to maintain the warranty you are forced to visit stealerships. Again, said demographic I've mentioned don't typically need to do this, and use 3rd party (read much cheaper) alternatives. This will be taken away from them, further adding to the cost of ownership. 3. Repairability and cost of ownership. The likes of Hertz and Sitx rentals ditched the majority of their EV Fleets Due to a combination of rapid depreciation (good for point 1 however) and issues with repair costs, part availability and reliability. Whilst car insurance is going up for all vehicles, it's worse for EV's at the moment unfortunately. In the event of an accident, at the moment you will be waiting longer for said repair parts, and for the stealiships to be able to accommodate a time date slot. ICE cars being more established, means Insurance companies have many other non 1st party options in a repair scenario. Longer the wait, linger lease car, more cost to premiums. This overlaps with point 3 somewhat. 4. Ive got to address the narrative of saving money due to moving to an EV. Whilst I'm certain many cases exist, typically it's this sort of scenario when you drill down: - Former ICE was a high annual mileage / low to modest mpg vehicle - high annual mileage >10k pa - Relatively high insurance and high roadtax So they get an EV, home charger, low cost mpkwh for 70% of their driving and no (until next year) road tax. Again, when married up against the demographic at the start, few of those points will tip the balance. Obviously the likes of living in a city with congestion zone may significantly affect that, at least while EV's still enjoy protection.

@@stuartburns8657For me it’s not about being cheaper than an ice vehicle, it about being cheap enough. Here in the US, I’d say if you can’t charge at home, then you shouldn’t buy an EV. Cost of purchase is interesting as EV’s are getting criticized both on being too expensive to buy and also losing 50 % of their value on resale. I looked at insurance a couple of years ago and at the time an EV was substantially more but not astronomically more. Meaning I could afford it but would be a problem if I was trying to save money by buying an EV. I’ll shop around again before buying. So I’ll buy an EV for the pleasure of driving it and my attraction to the technology. I drive a RAV4 Prime right now. It’s a hoot to drive in EV mode, really suits my needs and is highly sought after vehicle. I really enjoy it. When I buy an EV I won’t be arguing that its the best rational choice, it’ll just because I wanted to. That said, I own my own home and I have solar panels on it, I don’t do a lot of long distance travel and I never tow. So it’s not completely irrational.

@@stuartburns8657 This is quite a list and I recognise that someone somewhere may well have experienced what you describe with an EV, but not everyone and not everyone. I'm sold on EVs and have been for the last five years but really haven't experienced the negatives you describe. That said, I totally accept that EVs will not be for everyone. Because EVs are still in their early years and are of a different technology they are not the finished article and are generally not understood. ICE vehicles are better understood but without a little research it is still possible to make a wrong choice. I would not now go back to an ICE unless I was towing a caravan, which I am not. But, I'm unlikely to encounter the theft of a catalytic converter, I don't have to interact with smelly fuel hoses, I don't have to visit fuel stations, there is no chance of my drive being ruined by oil leaks, there is no chance of me filling up with the wrong fuel, I haven't got the myriad of components and subsystem failures to worry about,,, and the list goes on. So, Petrol, Diesel, Electric, Other, wharever vehicle chosen needs to satisfy your current needs and they all have the good and bad features. Anyone making an uninformed choice and then complaining afterwords needs to do better next time.

From what I gather, the steering wheel issue was in the early batch of cars (mine was one of the first in the country) and the issue has been resolved now on newer cars. There are always teething problems with new models and the Ariya is no exception. However I have no regrets after 18 months of ownership. I have 2 new Ariya videos I'm currently working on. Hopefully at least one (if not both) will be up on the channel before the end of the month. Thanks for watching!

About the 'logging' - My previous Diesel Focus (with 6 months warranty) started having engine malfunction errors and going into limp mode with the turbo disabled. Took it in to Ford dealerships and they couldn't find anything, despite me having videos my partner took whilst it happened. The 'fix' was to quickly stop / start again and it would be okay for that journey. Eventually happened one day and the stop/start workaround no longer worked, and it was out of warranty by them. With the error still active, took it to a 3rd party garage but insisted that they leave it running (in limp mode) during the odbc diagnosis thing. Bingo, it showed the actual fault. I asked them to turn off engine once error had eventually cleared, and they where unable to get the main same info. Long way of saying, it's not by accident, it's my design to avoid them having to do or fix anything. Logs on a reserving camera and lane assistant I could see being difficult to capture, but the car not starting? If safe take videos as evidence

Interesting what you say and makes sense. There doesn't seem to be a willingness to sort out very obvious problems unless it's front and centre and right in their face. Slightly concerning, but I do film and take photos when possible - it helps when there's someone else in the car for that. Thanks for watching!

From these incidences, what I can surmise is that the system fault error is displayed when the car computer sees an error code which is bracketed with a severity code = 'not drivable'. It is not always about 12v battery.
@TheRamblyChannel
@TheRamblyChannel 3 ай бұрын
That's a fair comment. Saying it was 12v related was just a guess as it seems to be the cause of many similar issues, but I'll never know. I'm tempting fate, but it only did it once and there hasn't been a hint of happening again since.

Hi Andy, top video mate! Have to report some bad news, I am returning my Ariya because of all the issues I’ve had with it over the 11 months I’ve owned it. I am a Motability user so I made a complaint to Nissan and Motability. To their credit Motability came back to me and agreed it was unacceptable to have had 11 faults over the 11 months involving 4 trips to the dealer, which on a couple of occasions meant they kept the car for 3 days, some of the faults are still present, the main issues being the remote climate setting off the alarm and that the N/S blind spot monitoring does not work correctly despite several attempts at resolving it! But don’t worry, im not going back to an ICE car, I have ordered a Skoda Enyaq that I hope to have by the end of April. Sorry for the long message and let me know your thoughts
@TheRamblyChannel
@TheRamblyChannel 5 ай бұрын
Hi Tony. I’m so sorry to hear that but after having so many problems it makes sense to get something else. The climate/alarm issue has been solved, it requires a software update to be installed by the dealer. I had mine installed in November and the car’s been fine since then. I also needed a new steering wheel and that solved other issues. So pleased you’re still going to be driving an EV. I’ve never driven or been in an Enyaq but have heard good things about it so I’m sure you won’t be disappointed. I wish you every luck in the world with the new car when you get it. Thanks for sharing your experiences.

Hi Andy, how long did you have to wait from order to delivery of your Ariya? We only ordered ours at the end of January 24 but it already feels like we’ve been waiting forever! and dealership says ours is still on back order so probably another 3-7 months away as we wanted the light interior trim for our 87kwH evolve 😕. I’ve only ever seen one Ariya on the road and that was last week, do you see many others around near you?

I ordered mine during the pre-order period so that was a bit different. I ordered in May 2022 and picked it up in December that year. The 7 months seemed like forever, so I feel your pain!! I see a few Ariya's around. Last weekend I parked up, went for a walk and when I came back another Aurora Green Ariya had parked in front of me. So they are out there!

Hi I’ve been driving an ev for 4 years now. If you let your main traction battery go below 20% on a regular basis it does not charge the 12v battery.

That's a great tip! I never let mine go below 20%. In the 14 months I've owned the car I think I've only gone below that on a couple of occasions, and neither of these were anywhere close to when I had my 12 volt battery issues.

The Ioniq 5 is a lovely car - it was the first EV I ever drove (and that drive was also the first time I'd ever been in any EV). I loved it and it has a lot going for it. I found the screens a bit small in it and wasn't sure about the white bezels, but I'm being ultra picky there. The Ariya is a great car too but not without its faults. My wife doesn't like the look of the Ioniq 5 but given the choice, I'd go for the Ioniq over the Ariya but it's very much a personal thing. I'll be releasing a video about my top 5 likes and dislikes of the Ariya in the coming weeks (it's in production now) so look out for that and please subscribe if you haven't already and you'll know when the video comes out!
