Your reviews are amazing and full of detail. You will go far on KZbin !!👏🏻👏🏻 also, fraiser is my favourite tv show and I nearly purchased the re20 instead of the sm7b for that reason 😆

You got it! I love movies! And I especially love 80s movies since I watched them on repeat with our brand new VCR back when I was a kid. Haha. Each of my videos have several movie Easter eggs. Not all from the 80s but there are a lot of them. Thanks for watching!

You informed and entertained me. I had no idea about the RE320 being originally advertised as a kick drum mic. And that's what I'm looking for. When you switched to the kick setting, I could tell what it would do immediately. I have used an RE20 in the kick, but I think this might be bettered suited. I watched a RE20 RE320 and an RE27ND and I was leaning towards the 27, but the prices are outrageous. I'm gigging live so I think the differences are great for studio but minimally live. Thank you for the demo again...

I bought the RE320 anyway...because it flatters my register and sounds much better than the SM7B. I use the kick drum setting for news reel work and the flat setting for narration...without an inline preamp...The RE320 sounds clean with plenty of top end even in the flat setting

There is no doubt that it's a great mic! That's why I bought it. I really love the Variable D technology for eliminating the proximity effect too. Thanks for watching!

@@TheRecordist Cool stuff. Hey man I don't know if your into streaming or podcasting at all but are there any of the interfaces you like which would work for pods? I noticed you've reviewed a few
@TheRecordist
@TheRecordist Жыл бұрын
@@influenceink9528 hey thanks! Well, I am partial to Universal Audio Apollo interfaces because I’m deep into the ecosystem. You can do so much with them. But you could get any interface to work well with podcasts. Audient is popular, as are Focusrite Scarletts. Depending on what kind of podcasts you do, you may need loop back functionality (taking calls and recording them on separate tracks) etc. But if you ask me, the Apollo is outstanding if you can get one.

@@TheRecordist I guess I was curious about that Sound Devices MixPre 3 but really its probably overkill and has a totally different set of features. I think the Rodecaster, Mixcast and Podtrak are probably better suited. And the PortCaster is a cool leftfield option too
@TheRecordist
@TheRecordist Жыл бұрын
@@influenceink9528 yes. You’re right. Some of those are great options. The sound devices Mixpre 3 II is amazing and the best cleanest sounding recorder that I own. I actually own the 3 and the 6. They’re fantastic, but a lot of money. A cool thing is you can download a plugin that is called MixAssist which will automatically turn down guests who aren’t speaking and mix the mics. But that’s another $100 for that plugin. Anyway, you’re right. Probably overkill. You know what you need. 😉

thanks for this. at 9:10 you say if youre looking for a versatile mic to mic up a lot of things, this is not it. what if I do want a versatile mic to mic up a lot of things, what would you recommend? a good old SM57?
@TheRecordist
@TheRecordist Жыл бұрын
Hey. That’s for watching! It depends on the sound pressure levels of what you’re recording. Generally for amps and loud things then a dynamic mic like the SM57 would be fantastic. But for quiet sources, having a condenser handy will work better. But no one ever regrets buying a 57!
@tendingtropic7778

@@TheRecordist thanks a million. subscribed! I agree, no one regrets having a sm57 so I'm going to get one, for amps, snare drum, etc. But I also want to record some singing occasionally and perhaps a shaker or soft hi-hat. I have an untreated room though. What would be your recommendation for a condenser mic (to complement the SM57) that does not break the bank (but ok if it costs a bit, if quality/price ratio is good). Thanks again!

@TheRecordist

It does look wicked cool, doesn’t it? The RE320 is a better mic than I thought it would be. It might brighten up your voice for sure. It’s got a nice tight low end too, with no proximity effect thanks to the Variable D technology. But the SM7B is quite popular for a reason. It’s a great mic on its own, and I’m not sure if the differences will be worth the price. But if you’re all about increasing your mic locker, then you can’t lose!
@JLStreetDoc
@JLStreetDoc Жыл бұрын
@@TheRecordist yeah, I went ahead and ordered it. I’ll compare it to my sm7b and see which will be my daily driver. But not a bad little combo to have at the ready.

@@JLStreetDoc- May I ask which mic you prefer? I was thinking about the RE320 until Matthew started to scare me at the end of the video! 😂
@JLStreetDoc
@JLStreetDoc Жыл бұрын
@@kingtrance307 I like them both, however I was in need to purchase another mic for my podcast because I want them to be the same mic, and had to decide on another sm7b or the re320 and did some testing. The Shure was clean and rich, the 320 also sounds great but there is a metallic brightness to it. Not something I wanted for the podcast so I bought a 2nd sm7b. I do however use the re320 as a vocal mic, and love how it improves my awful singing voice 😂

@@JLStreetDoc - The SM7 is a great mic! I ended up picking up a Beyer Dynamic M70 Pro X on holiday sale for 99 bucks. I’m happy with it overall. It reminds me of the RE320 with just a touch of sizzle. Nothing I can’t dial back on though with my mixing board and in post production. Happy New Year! 🎆

Which one do you recommend between the beyerdynamic m201tg and the re320 for audiobook narration and podcasting (untreated room)?
@TheRecordist
@TheRecordist 2 жыл бұрын
I’m afraid I don’t have any experience with the M201tg but I hear it’s excellent. Honestly, if I was to do it all again, I wouldn’t have picked the RE320 and instead went with the SM7B right away. Not that there’s anything wrong with the RE320, but the SM7B is just so awesome and versatile.

Used a generic clamp shock mount off amazon and its profile is small and reduces vibrations, definitely a diminishing return with that 150 dollar shock mount
