Some companies will make the effort and be successful i.e. Tesla, BMW, BYD, MG, Peugeot, Renault. However lazy old fashioned companies who relied on the same customers being loyal (whatever crap they serve up) will die e.g. VW (diesel gate etc.), Nissan (heavily in debt), Toyota (sticking to hydrogen and fossil fuels). These three companies were big and very profitable in the largest market in the world (China), but no longer sell there as that country is now 50% 'New Energy' vehicles.

Your premise that "no one wants them" is just wrong. If you look at the actual real data, rather than one person's views, you'll see that UK EV sales continues to rise and up 58.4% in November from Nov 23. Year to date EV market share is 18%, which is a 19% annual increase. The reason for these huge discounts is the penalties the car manufacturers have to pay for not meeting their emissions targets. They have to pay £15K on every ICE they sell so they are discounting the EV prices as this reduces their penalties and lowers their fleet emissions.

The manufacturers will be fined £15000 for each vehicle that they are short of the 22% EV allocation across their sales for 2024. Therefore the discount of £13k is less than the fine, causing huge perversion in the car market.
@johnsradios48425 күн бұрын
Everyone seems to get the story half right! For everyone who does not want a EV there is someone out there that wants a EV. Maybe 50% of the people want a EV or-maybe less. But there is a market out there. The batteries are getting better, the cost of batteries continues to come down and the range is getting longer. Right now EV’s are still a bit higher than ICE cars. The fact that there is no , oil, oil filter , transmission, engine, belts, hoses, transmission fluid, radiator, coolest , water pump and many other parts means that you are basically dealing with a motor and batteries ! Period.

“Sales of electric cars in the UK grew in October despite overall demand for vehicles shrinking as manufacturers raced to meet government targets. Carmakers sold 29,800 electric cars during the month, up by a quarter compared with the same month last year, according to data published on Tuesday by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), a lobby group. That growth came despite overall October sales falling by 6% year on year. Sales of diesels were down by a fifth and petrol cars dropped by 14%.”

Good numbers, The deisel car I have owned for the last 9.5 years that i bought for 3.5k cost me £1030 last year to fuel, service, maintence tax, insure and mot. Probably less than 3 or 4 monthly payments your doing on your lease or pcp your doing, what's your point?
@geoffmansfield266822 күн бұрын
@ the total running costs of my BEV is just SIX pence per mile . You forgot to post your mileage! Doing your sums for you shows . . . 4000 per annum = 25 p per mile , 8000 pa = 12.5 p per mile , 10000 miles = 10 p/mile . I don’t do PCP; buy new/nearly new and run it for 10+ years. My diesel mini depreciated 30% in the first year; thereafter normal depreciation curve. Running costs were always 12/13 p/mile PLUS garage bills of £200 to £425 each year. The factual data I wish to show illustrates that BEV driving is WAY cheaper than fossil fuel.
@davidwhitton551921 күн бұрын
@geoffmansfield2668 You haven't put in your original purchase price of vehicle so we can factor in depreciation. Mines still worth £280]0, or your insurance. Then we can get the real cost per mile.
@geoffmansfield266821 күн бұрын
@@davidwhitton5519 '19 plate paid £27k on 18/10/2020. Auto trader now advertising similar (high) spec with slightly lower mileage for £15k, so let's say £14k. I am OK with £13k depreciation in four years. Adjusting for inflation, insurance is very close to my old Mini Cooper D - thus irrelevant to this conversation. So factoring in depreciation of £13k means my total running costs are now £13968 ➗ 18000 = 77 pence per mile. Now let's look at my neighbours Ford Puma (also a '19 plate). In 2020 this would have been valued at £21k, and Autotrader values it now as £13k i.e. just a drop of £8k in four years. So its total running costs would be £8k + £2412 (Fords generous 45mpg and £6 per gallon) + £800 (just two years serving) + £760 (VED) = £10972 ➗ 18000 = 66 pence per mile. Expensive vehicles always have a high £depreciation; irrespective of fuel type. I always keep my cars for 10+ years so depreciation becomes less of a factor. My BEV will not cost £400+ for servicing each year nor will I be paying the 15 p/mile for gasoline. Without doing a spreadsheet, I would guess the Break Even Point (BEV cf fossil) comes at year six. I have bought my electricity at 23 pence per kWh. The data above would look very different if I had been on an Octopus EV tariff of 7 pence per kWh !
