Not if you drive it in Normal mode Tony just lacks real longterm experience with an EV. I did over 250’000km with EVs since 2015 and never used eco mode ever - you loose that instant acceleration and it’s painful to drive. You loose all the good features and it’s only for newbies that are not used to have a feather foot in the accelerator. If Tony would use it in normal mode and set the aircon to 20 degrees on the spend lowest setting he would only use 250wh. That’s the equivalent of about 1 mile of range lost per hour for a warm cabin and no fogged up windows. In conjunction with the heated steering wheel and the heater seats it’s perfect. I happily take on any of those anti EV reviewers in a range test. Tony can drive on eco and I drive in normal mode. I bet £1000 that I get further than Tony without freezing my balls off.

@@badchefi great comment, as a LOT of ICE owners, haven't got a clue about how EVs function, I own a Mini Cooper Electric , with a range of 145 miles, and recently did, London to Lands End and back in it, (that's about a 600 mile round trip) most of this journey was done at night, so the lights, wipers and heater were being used and I didn't drive under or over the speed limit either, it required charging stops totalling about 50 mins, during each 300 mile drive, which isn't much hassle at all, (obviously, charging up at Lands End, Gridserve, didn't add to my journey time,) for an EV that most uneducated ICE owners would class as, "just a local?? runaround??? EV" As I live in London, I hardly need to go more than 50 miles from my home, which means, I don't often drive over 100 miles in one day, I can charge up locally, at my nearest FREE EV charging point, that is in the car park, of my local supermarket, 500 meters from my home, so about 95% of my driving gets done with FREE charging.

My wife has a Kia Soul EV, and I think it’s great. We call it the milk float as well. A bit chilly? Try pressing the “Heat” button, it works well even in Eco mode. It out-accelerates both of my ICE cars (LR & Subaru), even in Eco mode - and to be honest I never have to drive it in any other mode. And I’m no eco warrior, I just drive like any other normal driver. Only 160 mile range? I’ve driven it over 250 miles on a single charge - it does get a bit less in winter - it’s using some battery power for that heater. Can only charge to 80%? Total tosh, maybe true if you only ever use rapid public chargers, but for the vast majority of drivers that’s not the case. It’s about 6 months since our car has had to visit one. Pings all the time? My LR & Subaru do more of that than the Soul - all drive me mad at times, but it’s an issue with all modern cars, not EVs specifically. I’ll give you one thing - it’s not the greatest looking car in the world, but there are worse out there. NO, yer have got that WRONG, the range of an EV can go UP, especially if yer use the higher level of brake regen.

Have you thought about asking the milkfloaters at the charging station about their experience? Pros and cons. Does it meet their needs and expectations? Why they choose a model, and if there is something they'd rather have instead? If they love it I'd really like to know why. If they hate it, it would break the facade of wide spread adoption.

95% are company cars so have no choice, plus charging in works time and work is paying, so not the same as a private motorist. As private they make no financial sense whatsoever

@@georgegently3026 I bought my Mini Cooper Electric, outright, 4 years ago, for £25,000 and have been charging it up, at my local FREE EV public charging point since then, so far, its been £6,000 cheaper to fuel, than my old Mini Cooper ICE it replaced, 4 years ago, AND its saved me about another £3,000 as I don't have to pay for, the Central London Congestion Zone fee, its servicing costs over 4 years, £120, NO VED too, until next year, so call it "a saving of 10 grand over its first 4 years", as its life expectancy is about 20 years, (its 14 years for an ICE) EVEN IF I had to pay to home charge it up over the next 16 years, that would save ANOTHER £12,000, (the FREE EV charging is ongoing) so basically over its entire lifespan, it would work out to be a FREE CAR, as its savings compared to running a Mini Cooper ICE, would be more than what I originally paid for it, "as private, they make no financial sense whatsoever" LOL, LOL and more LOL.

No one has ever said you only charge to 80% that a load of rubbish what has been said is to avoid dc charge to 100% on a regular basis and ever 80 gives you more that 200 miles. What you need to remember is all these battery pact come with a buffer any because you never use the Goss available charge as bms will not allow . So soul in explorer trim 64.5 kw net the battery is around 67.8kw gross The net figure the amount you got to play with. The soul in real world does 4.2 mile per kw 100% 268 miles so even if you only use 80% you have plenty battery power . As for eco mode a heating well it simple come out of eco mode and put heater on you do loss that much energy over 200 Mike journey looking at 5 mile range for having the heater on full the whole journey which people do not do. Plus you have hested sests and heated steering wheel Now we have this battery pack and ours is 5 years old we mainly use ac charging and 100% once a week. We currently have no degradation on the battery admittedly it as a heat pump fitted which maintains optimal battery operating temperature as well warm cabin. Anyone can choose to set up there car to be a negative experience but to do this and lie about the ev makes you look sad and desperate.

There’s is no way in hell you would lose 10% of range just from having the fans on 100% on an ICE…
@adventtrooper Жыл бұрын
When my decade old battery was starting to fail, the fan was limited to low, so there's some load on the system; ICE heat is just redirected from exterior loss to the interior but an EV has to provide power from the range. Setting to 27'C may not help as a heat pump (I assume it is that type of heater but it's not stated in the online brochure) is inefficient for large temperature changes in a short time; I would like to see the range if the car was pre-heated while charging to (for me) a comfortable 21'C and then the temperature maintained.
@TB-up4xi Жыл бұрын
You don't in an EV either turning just the fans on in my Model 3 uses basically nothing. Turning the aircon on cruising on the freeway at 70mph makes the consumption go from 200 to 215-20 Wh/mi or a 7.5 to 10% range loss / higher consumption. My 2015 Audi Q7 diesel 4.2 TDI used 8L/100 highway cruising aircon off and 9L/100 aircon on - thats a 12% reduction in range and efficiency.

The alternator is always running with an ICE, so really no range will be lost using anything electrical as the generator is always active and a part of the constant mechanics 👍

In truth a 280 mile advertised e-Niro will get 250 miles in winter with all gadgets on including turning on the cabin heat button which I assume you haven’t found. 300 miles in the summer and all at 1.7p for each of them. so there are advantages of an Ev. 250 miles for less than £5

The beeping would drive me to despair. Since it's a Kia turn on lane assist, it's incredibly fussy and feels like its reducing your level of control.
@adventtrooper Жыл бұрын
As Harry (of EVO) says, the first thing he does is turn off all the acronym driver assist.
@system11yt Жыл бұрын
@@adventtrooper All new models under new regulations turn the bloody things back on every time the ignition is started. JLR have come up with assist profiles you can switch to from the steering wheel, but you still have to select the custom profile every time. I learned this yesterday test driving a 24MY Discovery Sport. A 2022 one will let you turn that off, and it will stay off.
@adventtrooper Жыл бұрын
@@system11ytIt's completely annoying. Harry was thoroughly fed up with it as he has to drive through his farm to get to the road and it's constantly nagging him. Every time he turns on a modern car he has to spend time turning off all the driver aids as they're convinced he's speeding, crashing into obstacles and driving off the road.

This week I have covered 550 mostly motorway miles in a diesel Citroen C3 Picasso. Most of that distance was covered with 4 adults on board and the boot and a roof box full of their luggage and some level of heating on for the whole trip. This has been done on a single tank of diesel and I still have around 50 miles left in the tank. The refuelling will take around 5 minutes and give me another 600+ miles of range. Frankly, until an EV can offer me this level of hassle-free motoring, I am not interested.
@markleeming1786 Жыл бұрын
After a few trips to Edinburgh and Glasgow this week I finished off with a day out in Carlisle, Approx 620 if we include trips to the shop and to visit relatives. No problems at all. Thought that I would check the cost of the 600+ miles, hmmm a nice £12 .78 . I remember years ago taking off the belt that ran the air con so that we got more mpg, and from what I have read, todays cars still do less mpg if you use the air con. Surely when the EV's range went down , 12 miles , that is 12 miles over the distance of the trip, 120 miles equal to an ICE doing 4-5 mpg less with the fan on !
