Diesel fuel is used by boats and ships because it is less flammable than petrol. Because you don't want a fire out at sea.

@@derek9658 what about when spare fuel is stored in drums. I'd rather it be diesel and not petrol way out at sea. Also diesel does not combust unless its compressed under pressure. Hence the use of a glow plug and not a spark plug. Petrol vapours are flammable and a simple spark is required at the right moment. So i am dubious about all these diesel car fires happening all of sudden. 'Don't question Professor Hackenbush...'

The EU has legislated to fit 70mph speed limiters to all new cars now , so what do you do if you need to get out of trouble on a motorway and increase your speed slightly to do it? Technology is interfearing to much with new cars, we already have lane guidance which pulls the steering to one side when your trying to exit a road onto a slip road it tries to keep you from entering the slip road, very dangerous, I always turn mine off. Ive also heard that garages need a license to work on EVs can you look into this please Geoff? No license No repairs at Independant garages. Apparently there are only 50,000 mechanics qualified to repair Evs in the UK they are as rare as rocking horse poo, apparenty this is why the insurance companies are writing Evs off instead of repairing them, there is also a shortage of spare parts which slows the repair process after an accident to a painful long process taking months to turn the repairs around so they write them off, hence why insurance prices are increasing for all of us. If the insurance company has to provide a curteosy car for six months its becomes to expensive to honour the claim so the EV gets written off instead. Dont Buy an electric car it will become a hated thing compared to an ice car pretty quickly, if you get a sudden call for a family emergency miles away and the car isnt charged up you may end up regretting your decision because you couldnt be there when you needed to be. life will simply get in the way with an EV. its a case of sitting at a motorway services charging instead of being where you want to be a bit quicker. imagine getting a call to say a family member is about to pass away and you want to be there to say goodbye, or your baby is about to be born and you want to be there, or you have to be somewhere ergently like taking a sprog to hospital for medical attention but the car needs charging. you cant plan for a senerio like that. Im waiting for the news that someone couldnt save a life because it would have taken two hours for an ambulance to arrive and the Ev battery wasnt charged so a life was lost in the process. If you want to buy an Ev you really need to think outside the box of amazing 0 to 60 mph speeds and showing off to your mates with the what would you do in an emergency senerio, filling up an ice car takes all of 5mins to acomplish waiting to charge the battery 30 to 40 mins it could be the difference between life and death, and that is the main reason why I shall never buy one. Having a family even I have been in this situation several times in my life, when a doctor refuses to call at the house on an out of hours service and someone is loosing a lot of blood and an ambulance is two hours away, an accident in the garden digging up a fence post when I stuck a spade in my right calf again waiting for a non exsistant ambulance and no neighbours at home to assist me whilst I bled out all over the living room floor, I had to apply a Tornicay and drive to the hospital myself, I lost two pints of blood but my ice car and my quick actions saved my life. babys being born, children needing ergent medical care after falling on broken glass in the park while playing football, an ice car is the only solution to lifes challenges esspecially if you have a family you care about. The chances are it will always be ready to drive. Id hate to not be there for them all in their time of need because of a flat battery, I couldnt be that selfish and I would regret it for the rest of my days.

That works out at 17.3p per mile. Even if I charged my car on the machine that Lee is using it would only cost 16p per mile and if I charged on the Tesla network it would only cost 6p per mile and if I charged my non Tesla on the Tesla public network it would only cost 12.5p per mile. There are different types of hybrid systems , full hybrid like the Toyota system that have a small range on ev or they combine ev and ice, or the system used by fiat that is not capable of ev on it’s own and the 48 volt electric hybrid part of the system is used to assist the ice engine that never turns off when under motion, while the Toyota system can on certain models move the vehicle at up to 80mph if the combination of power requirements is acceptable to the car

I have had a self charging Hyundai Ioniq I was getting 50mpg but it was never aa quick car unless in sports mode when it zaps the lot. I have changed too a 1.2 130 bhp petrol turbo 3pot that is more frugal.

folks are waking up though, look at the second-hand car prices! especially the prices of cars that are TAX exempt, MOT exempt and ULEZ exempt and qualify for classic insurance i.e 1982 or older, and all of these cars can be repaired on the driveway with standard box of tools. not only that but making petrol and diesel at home is also very, very easy and super cheap, no mechanic required, no petrol pumps required, no specialist tools required, no computer required. join the revolution!

You wrong about the plug in hybrids, it's the plug in bit that makes them more efficient, also plug in hybrid too "self charges" only it doesn't use engine to do that since its not as efficient. By the way I can do all the run around on electric power so sort of helping to keep air kleen around the town, but then when I need to go somewhere on long trip I don't need to worry about the chargers 🤷‍♂️

My Ford Puma mild hybrid just has a 12 volt battery so nothing to lug around apart from me the dogs & the shopping its petrol driven the battery kicks in on a long run to save you in fuel allegedly so far I do not spend much on fuel I am happy anout that would never have an EV

16:42 £1450 for a set of tyres. This illustrates the madness that people are sucked into. I'm 59 years old and I own a 2013 Peugeot 107. I'm going to put a set of summer tyres on it this month and some decent Yokahamas will cost me £280 for 4. I don't buy budget tyres but if I wanted them a set of 4 would be £200. Ok my car doesn't do 0-60 at the speed of light or cruise in silence but my little car will get me to where that Porsche's going and I guarantee it won't take me any longer given speed limits, traffic lights and congestion. And my car's fun to drive. It feels like a little dodgem. I'm not saying a 107/C1/Aygo is for everyone but I just don't understand why anyone would even consider buying a rich man's trinket like that Porsche.
