First time I heard her voice, I had just suffered a miscarriage and was on lunch from work. Walked to a little shop in town and they were playing her CD, her cover of Songbird filled the store. It was so healing and comforting. I cried. The shop owner gave the CD to me and said just return it when you can. I went back to my office and played the whole thing. Bought every cd she had out....that was 2003. Still listen to her and she still touches my soul. Gone too soon, but touched so many.♡

My gran passed away on the most beautiful day in autumn. I’ll never forget it, I looked at the beauty around me and couldn’t help but think that she picked this exact day to say goodbye. The world really was carpeted in yellow and gold. It was so fitting. When I hear this song I think of her and her beloved best friend June. They knew one another by heart and they are together now and somehow that brings me joy and peace. Rest in glorious slumber sweet gran and aunty June. Love you always ❤️

Too many years to count and when my thoughts return there, the wound is still as fresh as it was that night. I found Eva Cassidy years ago and there is something about this song that flows through me and even tho' it makes me cry every time, every time, it brings some element of peace as well. . .

My Condolences. I lost my wife November 12th 2023, just two days before our 50th Anniversary. She had many problems and is mercifully is in a better place now. Eva Cassidy became known to me soon after my wife's passing. Everything I have heard from Eva and about her tragic death from cancer touches me to the point of splitting my soul in half and then mending it back together. Just seeing a post of her singing and playing guitar moves me to tears of joy. I truly believe God gifted her with those extraordinary talents and ability to rewrite the meaning of songs like Somewhere Over The Rainbow, Fields of Gold, what a Wonderful World and many others. It might sound corny to some, but I believe God gave her the ability to re-write that song without changing a word of it back in 1996 just before she died. God has a special tie to the Rainbow. It was the sign in the Sky he gave us back in Noah's Day after the Flood that wiped out mankind except for Noah's family. He said He would never Wipe Out Manking again and he put the sign of the Rainbow in the Sky to commemorate it. To me in this End of Time Prophetic Fulfilling of Prophecy that will bring Jesus back to End the Age and usher in Eternity. I think there is a direct correlation that gives the reason Eva reinterpreted the meaning of the song to makes a direct reference to the that very Sign of the Rainbow he put there and it points to the very location of the coming Eternity which will be SOMWHERE OVER THAT VERY RAINBOW , AMEN and AMEN. I think He Chose Eva to make that very point even 28 years after her death. Remember God Exists Outside of Time and Space and can put things wherever He chooses whenever He chooses😊❤

I have loved Eva Cassidy's music for nearly twenty years. My wife died in February 2023 of Pancreatic cancer. It's so painful but we are not alone, although not everyone feels it in the same way or believes there is a "better place" or that there is a god who puts people where for his own reasons. I don't. think the so-called prophecies of Jesus in the Old Testament aren't there but are read into it, aided by New Testament authors shaping some of their stories to parallel events in what Christians call the "Old" Testament. Many stories in the Hebrew Scriptures were mythic just like the older stories some of them were patterned after. To read them as history, as accounts of things that happened, is a choice you made.

In the middle of the night a few years ago I woke up unable to sleep peacefully for worry about my severely handicapped daughter who was not doing well. I had fallen to sleep with the radio on and woke to a song by Eva Cassidy. I'd never heard of her before but I can tell you I started to cry as I am now. I don't believe I've ever heard a more beautiful voice in my life. I play her music for my daughter and it makes her smile. I truly believe Miss Cassidy is an angel now coming to those of us who need to hear that sweet pure voice of hers. I cannot explain it any other way. But these years later I still cry listening to her. God took her home much too soon .............................

Hi Stephen, I'm Eva's cousin. Tom is right, Dan's violin was added before she passed. He was here from Iceland to see her near the end, and he went into Chris Biondo's studio and added his accompaniment to the track she had previously recorded. I was at their house when he brought it back and I will always remember us all sitting on the floor by her bed listening to it as he played it for Eva for the first time. She loved it...or rather she loved his part. Beautiful Eva, always self critical to the end, noticing parts of the song she didn't think were perfect. They burned a cd of the song for me so I could listen to it on my drive home, and I played it over and over and over. It will always be my favorite of her songs. And still makes me cry, after all these years.

I found and fell in love with this extraordinary voice many years ago when in a very dark place - Eva and her voice were my rescue, so exquisite, ethereal, pure and so full of the sincerest emotion. I am in my 50's and suddenly losing my hearing. wow: what a very personal and significant thing to share. I was in a relationship for years with someone with extremely limited hearing, but an unlimited heart...and I can say that this was the very reason why I loved him so. I recommend Joseph Campbell to you. His perspective is fantastic. Every single one of us alive today is simultaneously gaining insights, while losing physical youth as we go toward what is next. Bodies are vehicles we inhabit, but for just a time, and then the vehicles (like a car) eventually wear out....for every single one of us...and as this happens, we can be prompted to remember: Why does this make sense? It makes sense if can realize that perhaps we are advised not to hang too much on to what we know....because the best is yet to be somewhere further down in our destiny, perhaps beyond this life for all we know. Meanwhile, what we do on this planet here...no one can deny....it means something to us, ourselves, and also to every person we touch and those who touch us and influence us. In this very real way, do we really need to know more? Does any one of us really need to be more, feel more or expect more than to be for even one person, the person that this song is about..........to have given such deep love, felt, remembered and treasured this much on this planet.....to the point someone feels they know us by heart? What more ....... what more.... dear heart.

What a rendition! Eva's singing always gets me, often where it hurts. For me, this song is poignant. My wife of 50yrs , often unstable, has moved into such a dark and angry place that the person I married is not really there anymore. I try, but it is beyond me to bring her back, except for brief moments, in between her tears, inner pains, and angry outbursts, .... Eva's song helps somehow, as remember "for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness or in health"... the passage of time in the song can be thought of as a lifetime or, in my case, 50 years. Apologies, having a down day to day. Actually, I sometimes see things through Eva's songs in this order: True colours, I know you by heart, Autumn leaves, and Some where over the rainbow.

I discovered Eva Cassidy only a few years ago, then I read about her story of her passing away from melanoma, and I knew there was little chance to beat that without early aggressive treatment, so sad. I can only describe Eva's voice as pure, angelic and captivating! She had her very own, inimitable style which fascinated me (as a contralto, I could not imitate her -- no one can!) she had a very sincere, special talent. To you, Eva: you don't know it, but your voice has made an impact on many who still listen to you. As you sing up there in a heavenly choir, your voice echoes down on we mortals who listen and return to hear you again! Rest now, Songbird, and sleep warm in peace.

I grew up in western North Carolina and learned traditional ballads from my older relatives. My heart truly knows a voice that is Divine because I've heard them for as long as I can remember. When Eva Cassidy sang, she gained the attention of that which is Holy. I was in my 50's when I first heard her music. A dear friend gave me a couple of CDs after my husband took his life and during that first couple of years, Eva's music literally helped save my life. I'm so thankful for this public opportunity to say, "Thank you for blessing all our lives with grace and the knowledge that we CAN soar even when there's loss and pain." xoxo Sheila Kay Adams

I have read so many comments here that ring true to me also. There is something rich and spiritual about Eva's music and this is coming from a die hard rocker. My son survived Leukaemia. There were dark days and we lost a friend we knew in hospital. To those who weren't as lucky, I wish you well, love and hope you can find meaning and hope, despite your loss. Love Gary. England.

I lost my mom October of 2004, and that void was something I've never felt before. So there I was trying to pick up the pieces of my life and just push through. I was in nursing school at the time and was studying at a Barnes and Noble bookstore when this song came on, I've never heard the song before. But it was so comforting. I bawled my eyes out......this song has gotten me through some of my toughest days. S.I.P Eva.❤

Eva, I am very happy to listen to you again after 16 years, at the time I was just a young Congolese from Brazzaville who listened to you with a radio cassette. Thanks to you I learned to play the guitar, I discovered and loved jazz and blues. I fell in love with this song and the whole album at a very young age, it took me to dimensions that only you and your music could take me to. I would have loved to play and sing with you today as I have everything to do so, alas, I have just seen that you left us very early with your radiant gift. I think that without you we would never have had these beautiful colors warming our hearts. Thank you Thank you Mama Cassidy, I shed a tear of joy in my heart and pray for your beautiful soul. We will meet again somewhere, I am sure. AKONGO bless you. Kiss!!!

Three years ago today my husband passed away. It is like this song was written just for us in so many ways. We slipped away in April to get married May 1st. We laughed like children about our secret. We got 18-1/2 years together - way too short but so grateful for each one. We laughed; we cried; we shared everything; we accepted each other - flaws and baggage and all. I miss him like crazy - would love one of his big hugs, but I know without doubt he is still here with me each day until I join him in the next world.
