She arranged and wrote this version quite a while before her death. She was VERY talented and there are two songs that she has done that I love. "Imagine" and "Autumn Leaves". Even if you don't react to them, you should give them a listen. THANK YOU! As long as we are listening to her, her legacy lives on. Enjoyed your show and I'll keep watching!

Thank you for your insightful and kind comments. I assume that by now you know Eva's story. Her voice, her emotion, her guitar playing are things for the ages and we are so lucky that she left all of these gifts and parts of herself for us to enjoy and marvel at. Thank you Eva. We will always remember you.

Elton John said she had the best singing voice. You need to hear her version of Fields of Gold. Unfortunately Eva passed away from skin cancer in 1996. 4 months after she was diagnosed.

Her voice i thought was just amazing to listen to. Autumn Leaves should be us soon. Thank you for the recommendation

Loved your reaction and that you did not interrupt the song ( except once), which needs to be listened to in it's entirety to stay under her spell. She is remarkable as an artist and I am so happy that her work is having recognition finally.☺💖

I just love Eva Cassidy! I've got a couple of cd's, but never have seen her live, so Im thrilled to be finding her on KZbin. Check out some more of her. Unfortunately, there's not alot, what with her life being cut so short.💜

Nice reaction! This recording was done in January 1996. In June of that year Eva was diagnosed with metastasized melanoma and she died in November. She was really only known in the Washington DC area when she passed. Her first solo album, Songbird, was released after her death. It wasn't until two years later, when a couple of DJs in England played her recordings of Over the Rainbow and Fields of Gold on the radio and TV, that she really began to be noticed. Since then, her albums have sold over 10 million copies. I first learned of her in 2000, when NPR included her version of Over the Rainbow in a list of the top 100 recordings of the 20th century. I have loved her ever since. It was only last year that I learned that a friend of hers had recorded this performance at Blues Alley on the night they were recording her live album. As far as I know, the 13 songs on that video are the only full videos we have of her performing live. I am so grateful to get to see her perform.

This song was made famous by Judy Garland in the Wizard of Oz. Eva's cover is stunning, a totally reimagined Over the Rainbow. I love both versions.

Eva is one of the greatest voices in modern times and at the time of her death at 33 in 1996 she was relatively unknown. This video was from earlier in the same year that she passed away from melanoma, if I'm not mistaken. The scene was from a nightclub in the Washington D C area, not far from where she lived in Maryland, USA. A few years after her death this song was played on a popular London radio station and it climbed to the top of the UK charts. Now she is considered by many as one of the best female voices and she has inspired many singers, including Katie Melua. Eva was one who cared to remain out of the spotlight during her life, refusing to sign with record companies that wanted to dictate what she would sing. She is a legend gone too soon. Great reaction!

Eva Cassidy had one of the most angelic voices of my lifetime, along with Angelina Jordan. My two favorite female vocalists. Eva was a legend as she unfortunately passed at the age of 33 in 1996 from cancer. She became famous and world known after her death! She left a legacy of just several performances, the best of which consist of black and white videos from the blue's Alley lounge several months before she died. It is from that, that we see her performance over the rainbow, which is considered by many to be the finest recording ever of that song! She does many others, a notable one being fields of gold by Sting. Interestingly, there is a mashup on KZbin of Eva and Angelina Jordan both singing Fields of Gold together! A masterful job at blending the voices as well as possible. It is really a tribute to both of them. Highly recommended. Peace and love

That was such a beautiful rendition of this song. So sad that she is no longer with us. She died at only 33 years of age. I also love the version by Israel Kamakawiwoʻole. Sadly he also died young at 38 years of age. At least we have their music left as a legacy.

Sadly Eva's talents didn't reach many people until after she lost her battle with cancer. She is among my favorites I have learned of over the past 3.5 years after spending a lot of time watching music videos on KZbin.

The cover she did of SONGBIRD which was originally sung and written by the late great CHRISTIE McVIE of FLEETWOOD MAC, also her cover of FIELDS OF GOLD written by STING are also magnificent works of art, this is another lady who didn't want to sing for the fame, 🇬🇧🔥👌❤️.
