I have followed Eva Cassidy for 10 years and continue to play her music. What gets me about this version is that she didn't know yet that she was dying and yet the tone and the mood she sets seems to indicate that she did know. One word to describe the performance.... Haunting!

I first heard Eva Cassidy’s gorgeous voice in 2002 when Michelle Kwan skated to “Fields of Gold” in the exhibitions, after coming in third to Sarah Hughes. It was especially emotional because Michelle was “supposed” to win and she shed tears as she performed. I’ve been a huge fan of Eva’s music since then.
@ronraskind Жыл бұрын
@@beedeegee9374I remember that skating competition. I'm dating myself lol. I was introduced to Eva when visiting a cousin in New York probably 10 to 20 years ago. The most beautiful voice I ever heard. I have listened to her since when I get the chance. Interestingly, one of my other favorite female vocalists is Angelina Jordan. Angelina is seventeen now and I have been following her for 5 years. Within the past year or two there was a fan made virtual Duo mashup published of Eva and Angelina singing Fields of Gold together! They each have their own voices but it's beautiful.

I shared this with my brother who was a huge fan of hers & saw her perform live often. Here's what her wrote back - The vocal in the video was mostly recorded before she knew she was sick, but the video is from her final show. She had such an incredible voice. She was offered a recording contract by several major labels but refused them all because she wanted to sing what she wanted to sing. She performed weekly at a small club in Georgetown, Blues Alley, for probably ten years. Everyone in DC knew about her. But she was extremely shy. She mainly earned a living working at a local plant nursery. She made extra money singing background vocals for R&B acts in the studio, where these gangsta guys loved her. She only recorded one solo studio album while alive. She hated doctors and waited too long to get her cancer diagnosis. This was her last performance at Blues Alley. She and her adoring audience of longtime admirers knew this would be her final show, and this, in a way, was her gift to them.

Judy Garland's version was from a young girl's heart. This is from a woman's heart that has taken some punches. I read a quote from either a relative or friend of hers saying that as tragic as her loss was, in a way, it was perfect that she became an international star after her death. Because she would not have enjoyed the trappings of stardom -- the attention, demands, interviews etc. This way, it was about the music and sharing her gift with the world. Btw, she was also a very talented artist. I think you can still buy some of her drawings and paintings.

And she sang with a cold. Truly, one of the greatest voices ever recorded.

Now that you've been introduced to Eva, listen to Autumn Leaves, Danny Boy, Fields of Gold, etc. All are magic.

Perception is reality, and when we experience something outside of our reality, like watching a beautiful, talented, long gone girl singing something that obviously means a lot to her, our Perception is shifted, and our reality follows. You asked why, I hope this helps. And never apologize or feel like you look like an idiot for feeling so deep that it brings tears to your eyes. Life is short, don't waste any part of it shutting down what you feel, you will turn into someone you don't like very much. ❤

She is one of my favorite musicians. She died waaaay to young.

Eva Cassidy, Amy Winehouse, Dusty Springfield, Billie Holiday, I could go on. So many younger women dead before their time. Who said life was Just I guess. Beautiful music, hymns to humanity.

This was absolutely captivating…in a gentle, sweet way. The guitar, her tone…just angelic and pure perfection. Tears and goosebumps. No auto tune either!

Unlike very few songs I've ever heard, this song sounds like a passionate prayer from a longing soul.

Definitely one of the Best covers, it’s such a shame she was taken so young and we never heard of her before she passed

Bro I'm 75 years old and have watched this. Probably over a 100 times I still can't hold back the emotion. I feel just like you did. It's the best thing I've ever heard.

She was a local legend long before her "fame". Seeing her at Blues Alley and other local venues was a wonderful gift.

You are so lucky to have heard her in person. I first heard her on WPFW - and I called the station to find out who was singing! I immediately wanted to go hear her but then I found out she had died about a year before. I read up on her and found out she used to ride her bicycle to her gigs. What a treasure.

This was the first thing I heard from her. It was the biggest rabbit hole I ever went down. Spent days listening to everything I could. Her versatility is amazing.
