I discovered Eva when I was 17 I was living on my own and was in deep deep depression and didn’t have a lot going for me. One day I was walking out of my flat and I found a cd (compact disc) on the floor what was free out of a newspaper. It was all scratched and it had 3 songs by Eva and it worked when I played it and I was hooked, she saved my life her voice changed my life. The tears I cried when I discovered she had passed I feel deeply connected to her. I’m 37 now I’m a hairdresser I have a lovely home and I’m much happier than I was back then. Don’t give up to anyone reading this. Things get better.

@@elizabethlinsay9193 Thanks for the comment Elizabeth. Through the wonder of KZbin I've heard all of her stuff and you're right I'm a changed man -for the better I hope - she is also a wonderful guitar player. On her version of Mac's Songbird she plays a short solo, reminiscent of Bruce Langhorne's playing on Dylan's Its all over now baby blue, BEAUTIFUL!!!

No frills, no production team, no nothing, really. Just a girl and her guitar stopping everyone in their tracks. Eva was the most complete singer any of us will ever hear. I don't even know of another singer from any era or musical genre who sang the wide variety of music that Eva did. A good number of her ballads are vocal masterpieces that achieved the impossible: again and again, they displaced the original and became the gold standard. That’s insane! What a gift, and what a loss.

I am glad that there are so many others who feel the same about this singer. It seems with time she only gets more popular (thanks to things like KZbin). I first heard Eva Cassidy's Songbird CD well over a decade ago and by luck I was alone and I was sitting down. Even then I nearly fell from the chair to the floor. I could not believe my ears. Every song was a storm of emotion, and every kind of bittersweetness flooded my living room. My core was washed away. No single singer has cut me open so thoroughly before, or since (save when I hear her over again). I love many different types of singers, mostly female, but this one, this lady was (and is) at the highest level of soulfulness and execution (execution meaning her performance rendered, and maybe her ability to kill with it the nonchalantness in any half-hearted listeners). I rarely get the same feeling listening to today's great sellers of song -- oh, maybe for a moment here and there, a song now and again.. I keep listening and I can always find something I like if I search. But with Eva the searching ends, there is nothing better beyond. Eva's voice is another level, another kind of never-before experienced instrument, one that somehow creates less distance between the willing listeners' hearts (and less distance from the single listeners mind and heart), and thusly our eyes are either opened for seemingly the first time, or closed in a blissful way, and we are left collectively floating hopelessly and happily in her melody and soulfulness. I was crestfallen after listening to her for the first time to learn that she had died in the nineties. She was born with the most perfect voice I've ever heard, and I'm not too young-- (well in my heart I am).

Tom, first time I hard Eva was at a concert (I'm a musician) was walking across the grass to the stage when the sound guy behind the board put on Eva's Fields of Gold... stopped in my tracks headed over to the mixing board at the back of the field. "Who is that?" been a fan ever since.

Yes, Clarence, she has that amazing effect on a lot of people long after her death -- from her small but incredible body of work. She stops people in their tracks. I am not a musician but can easily understand when musicians continually give her great respect. She was in a sense untouched and never needed to alter her artistry to fit any fame seeking path. There is great pureness in that and I believe it can be heard in her voice and felt between her notes. Cheers to you.

I only just heard the original song by Buffy Sainte-Marie, she sings it very well. I’ve only ever heard Eva Cassidy version and after hearing the original, I just fall even more in love with Eva’s version. The way she can make it her own is incredible, she makes me feel like I’m with her there in the moment. She has one of the most beautiful voices, if not the most beautiful voice I’ve ever heard. Bless her kind and beautiful soul, and may her voice wander through the minds of every person who gets to know her music.

Eva's parents and family got to watch this remarkable woman explore her music and abilities. Then they had to let her go. I lost my only child 11 years ago. The pain of that has diminished some over the years. Life is going to end. We have ALL had tragic losses. I am so grateful to her parent(s)? for sharing her gift with the world even through such loss and pain. Astounding talent.

I will never forget first hearing Eva's music in 2002 in Camden, Maine. Literally stopped my wife and I in our tracks. We HAD to find out who she was and get her CD. Was devastated to find out she had died a few years earlier and that we would never be able to see her in concert. Tall Trees is one of the most soulful songs I have ever heard. Haunting and filled with a longing of regret. Eva, though we never met you, we miss you greatly. Thank you for sharing your amazing gift. Your voice lives on and we are better for it.

I have loved Eva Cassidy for so long! Many years ago I came to know about her by a dear friend giving me her CD. I am thankful to know this beautiful woman and God blessed talented singer's music!!! Eva Cassidy stands alone with the highest honors of excellence with or without anyone's praise or approval! This woman was in a class all her own and nobody can compare to Eva Cassidy! She was an elite above the elites!

One of my very favorites of her songs. Been following her for 18 years, she sings my soul.

I remember walking in Georgetown alone, in 98, I didn't know of her then, but it haunts me now. Her voice echoes down those streets.

When there is no melody line to back up her singing - like in a song such as this - you truly hear her perfect pitch stand out. A perfect voice. Such talent. Such emotion.

Once heard, never forgotten. There are other performers who sing the same cover songs, but it's Eva's voice I hear in my head. Sadly missed by those who tarry - but oh, what a wonderful reunion awaits us! Thanks for sharing this lovely collection.

Strange how you can hear her clear her throat before she starts in this... but on Blues Alley and Nightbird it isn't there! This is raw audio too. Not just raw video. I am so thankful for this stuff. She was one of a kind.

It doesn't really get much better than this, such a loss to the world back in 1997, and testament to her power as an artist that she has, and will stand the test of time... peace and love, flower...
