I were a pipe liner...not so now, and if we don't have pipe??? like most things we all feel left to ourselves. nothing like purity of soul, I got 3 if u can listen with pure heart... enjoy as i i pray. Pure Heart, Soul, own and give themselves without self. Eva Cassidy, Lara Fabian, and our new precious little Emma Kok with hearts that are NOT victims (and each are far beyond most understanding to me), that would be my trio of givers of soul. Listen to all of them any song, my heart!!! Purity, them give, give, give like nobody,

Eva Cassidy...First time I heard her was in a club outside of Philadelphia Pa. Didn't know who or what she sounded like, but when she opened her mouth you could hear a pin drop inside the club. She had a way of making you dream when she performed, like you went to another dimension in time and space. During her break I went to talk with her. She was very pleasant yet shy in a sorts. Me, being a performer I totally found my idol. She sang what she wanted to sing and nobody was going to change that! Much like myself, if I don't feel the song, I'm not going to sing it. So I followed her when I wasn't performing myself. She even came out to hear me and my band when she was not working. As time went on, I moved from the Pennsylvania area and went on to do my thing and lost track of Eva, even though I would hear she was still doing the drudges of small clubs. I went home to visit family and heard she was going to be in the DC area so I went. It was like two old friends meeting up once again and I made certain to buy her CD's. I played them and still do from time to time. After a few years I heard from a sound man I used to work with that Eva had cancer, but nobody seemed to know how serious the cancer was. Then I got the call she had died and I was crushed. Here was a talent that should have been known throughout the world while she was alive! Thank God for her many CD's and videos for others to know her. Sad thing is, they didn't know the sweet person she was, but she left behind the best thing Eva had...her voice and music. Thank you Eva for blessing this world with the best voice of all times...just a shame that you never had the chance to truly know how much the people and musicians truly loved and respected you. RIP...

Very personal and " behind the scenes" documentary. I would like to add that her guitar playing to me is as admirable as her singing yet nobody mentions that. Although she did not use complicated jazz chords or rhythm, her playing supports the color of her singin. She added the right notes/chord voicings (on the guitar) at the right spot to give it that "emotional, moving" touch. Tasteful playing and singing. And her band menbers at the Blues Alley concert supported her perfectly with subtle, hardly noticable, almost shy additions of their instruments.A perfect performance. What a talent.

Just a case in point that not all great singers rise to fame by there alive. She surely should’ve. I saw her autobiography on PBS I think years ago and they said she was just impossible to peg. Nobody could see her brilliance because she refused to be put in a box I say she was a blue singer or she was a pop singer or she was this or she was a jazz singer. Just wasn’t fair that people who wanted to sign or could not see her brilliant and her magnificent voice. I think it was cancer that took her life

I saw Eva a number of times, and several things stood out about her performances. First, she was a musician. Just listen to her guitar. She was a wonderful arranger. She put her signature on the songs she did, made them her own, so to speak. Eva was not going to be put in a box. Her gigs went from pop to folk to soul to blues to my favorite, Jazz. She had a great feel for Jazz. And she had this way about her that touched everyone in the audience. I really did feel like she was singing just to me. Not too many artists had/have this quality -- my old favorite, Steve Goodman, sang just to me, too. But Eva was right here in town and I got to see her and know her music intimately. She touched my heart, and it remains touched to this day.

I grew up with her in Bowie. They described her perfectly, very unpretentious. She was a bit shy but kind to everyone. We were just kids in a small town and she never let her incredible talent make her any different than who she really was. It may sound strange but her post life fame is probably what she would have preferred. She didn’t really feel comfortable in the spotlight and fame wasn’t something she would seek. I’m now 60 and to this day I can say the two most perfect voices I’ve ever heard were Karen Carpenter and Eva. Both gone too soon with so many more songs they could have sung.

Eva's timing and pauses in a song interpretation, with juxtaposing, pauses and making it her own, is incredible, it goes to a place not many can go in a song-makes most singers look lazy, the way she 'paints her canvas' during the performance-she works it, and molds it, almost like to another dimension....if you don't feel her song, you're most likely dead inside, impossible to not feel this artistry

I was there in DC the Night she played Blues Ally, a very cold January Night ( The beginning note Blues Ally, Georgtown, MD is wrong, Blues Ally is at the end of Wisconsin Ave next to the Potomac River in WASHINGTON DC) ~ I remember the day I met Eva, at a Grateful Dead Show on the parking lot of Capital Center in the late 80's. She was leaning on the car in the next parking space, and her and her friends intermingled with our car load of hippies. She was very shy, and I had to drag her thoughts out, which is so ironic, because when she started to sing she reverted from the Introverted beautiful quiet soul to the strong radiating beautiful voice that could move boulders. I remember the day she died and was left with a deep hollow feeling in my heart for such a long time. Life isn't always the Fairy Tale we grew up believing, but with Eva, Being a true Angel, her Wings continue to Flutter in our Hearts and Souls for all eternity. 25 years later, and I still feel that deep sadness that she is no longer here. Some Souls are to precious to ever die. RIP Eva, I miss you so much and you are still alive in the deep recesses of my Heart and Soul.......

A huge aspect of it was that Eva was a musician before the internet, so it was far harder to get recognition than it is today. Also, a lot of it, I think, was about Eva not being alive to sing it for you. Remember, she was only 33 when cancer took her life. The big tragedy is that if she was only alive for a few more years, she likely would've been able to see the huge success story that her music would've later become.

I’m 80 years old & discovered Eva Cassidy’s music 3 years ago. I love all her songs - many of which are not her originals. Many singers (musicians) had performed these songs she sang. But her voice, her emotion & her interpretation of a song are something unique & special. The song “Over The Rainbow”, performed by Judy Garland doesn’t have the same emotional feeling as that by Eva Cassidy. Similarly the song “Autumn Leaves” had been sung by many singers/crooners (including Nat King Cole) lacked the emotion & interpretation of the lyrics & music as that done by Eva. Everytime I listen to Autumn Leaves by Eva Cassidy, I weep. This song is about missing a loved one. God bless Eva - may she RIP. She will be sadly missed by all music lovers

Can you imagine how boring it was listening to those angels playing harps all the time and their feathers getting stuck in the stings and things. But these days are all gone now Eva has arrived, God fired the lot of them. Heaven is even getting popular, now Eva is the performing arts director:-)

I have 5 of Eva's CDs. They're all so good, they all make me cry. Angelic voice.

My brother had a weekly radio show that started around 1996 or 97 called The Eclectic Cafe' on the University of Central Missouri's radio station. He started playing Eva's music not long after that. I am so glad he introduced me to her music even before she was well known otherwise.

"If you can't respond to Eva Cassidy's voice then check your pulse"absolutely. She is the definition of what soul music is.When Mick Fleetwood said it was pretty simple for him, you'd have to be deaf to not know how great and rare Eva's voice was.Amazing to think that woman's song was covered by Eva Cassidy and how it managed to find its way to her, incredible story and what an ultimate honour to a song you're written.I think I'd be floating on air for the rest of my days if I was this woman.

I just love Eva, the pure colour of her voice, the truth of her music: magic and beauty. Thanks for sharing this.

I found Eva by accident today when I stumbled across her version of "Fields of Gold" which totally took my breath away. I've been digging more and more into her work all afternoon. What a perfectly pure voice. She takes each song she sings and makes it totally her own and, in my opinion, improves on the originals. I'm looking forward to exploring more and more over the next little while.

Funny you say that, I found out about Eva through a Norwegian game-show!!! One of the singers there sang "Fields of Gold" (Sting's version), and Eva's version was in the "suggestions" bar... I listened to it, and boom, here we are...

PhilipTheBigOne It's funny how we all hit here by different means. I first heard of Eva thru Fifthy Shades Of Grey. The book didn't mentioned a song in particular, but "It doesn't matter anymore" cought my attn, I clicked on it and I just felt in love with her angelical voice. Like you I kept listening to her the rest of the night and ever since then I listen to her very often.

I've been listening to everything of hers for the last 2 hours. First time hearing her lovely voice. In tears reading this young lady has passed. (I came upon her while searching for gardening in zone 7.)

I found her a couple of days ago. Reading an article about why music can make us cry and the author said that Eva's "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" was what did it to him. I listened to it and was blown away. When I found out she had passed away I was, and still am so sad. I don't know if there's anything after this life but I strongly hope Eva can feel the love for her music and for herself.

This young lady sang what she liked, because she could & sang it magnificiently she sang beautiful, a smooth mature voice & I loved her voice & songs. So whether she sold records or not she sang & that to her was more important than trying to sell her music - it was what mattered from her heart with her music. Soul singer & that voice is all that mattered in her short life. so thank you Eva & may your spirit live on forever, R.I.P. dear sweet song bird. Loved your version of SONGBIRD DELICIOUS EVA SOUNDS.

Some years back, a friend gave me a copy of one of her CDs. I was immediately drawn into her music. I bought and listened to every Eva Cassidy CD that was available and have played them over and over and over again. I always feel that she is singing directly to me and that she somehow knows who I am and how I feel. She will always remain here with us through her music. How good is that?

Yes, the astonishing thing is the clarity and performance of the bar live recording. Eva’s an amazing beautiful singer, but the sound engineer did a great job that night also. Sorely missed. RIP Eva.

There are two voices that I heard and immediately fell in love with... alas, only after their owners' passing. One is Eva Cassidy and the other is Nancy LaMott. It's painfully sad to know that they are both gone... yet, how blessed are we to have access to their recordings at the touch of a button, or keyboard key.

Her talent & perfection are like that of nature ; not contrived or full of ego .. shining through like the sunshine …to warm us … like a bird released… songbird is such an ideal title for her album … An incredibly beautiful woman and her life was cut too short . R.I.P Sweet Eva ~ ❤thank you for all you gave to us .

I first heard Eva Cassidy on the radio several years ago. I loved her immediately. They didn't mention her name, so it took me awhile to find out who was singing so beautifully. I asked a friend if they knew who it was that sang some of her songs. After telling me that it was Eva Cassidy, she said it's so sad that she died. I felt as if a friend had died. I bought all of her CDs and cherish them still to this day.

A story so moving. A heartbreaking success in her own way. She defied rules and was proved right. The most wonderful, passionate, coloured voice I've ever heard. Thank you so much for this tribute, brilliantly achieved.

RIP Terry Wogan... the radio DJ who was the catalyst for getting Eva's music heard in the UK. He's featured in this documentary.

I just added my comment about Terry. We in the UK owe him big time as it was through him that me and many others got to hear and fall in love with Eva's beautiful voice. RIP Terry

I wish I could thank Eva for this absolutely beautiful music. It is beyond amazing. I would like to thank the people interviewed. They did a great job. I have no musical talents so I learned a lot from their observations. Thank you one and all. I enjoyed every note and every word. Carolyn Eagle (St. Louis, Missouri)

It's her arrangements that are unique and emotional...often much more than the originals. And her voice of course is great. My heart breaks every time I listen to her...not just from her great performances, but that she died so young. Tragic.

Makes you think what other special voices we may have lost in time, due to the music industry not accepting that some people just need to be them self’s that's when music is magic, and not when it has been manufactured

I discovered Eva in a strange way…I had a bunch of CDs sitting in a cupboard in my computer desk. One day I decided to go through them before throwing them away. None of them were marked, so I assumed they were blank. Blank they were, excepting the last disc in the pile. I put it in the CD player, and out came the most amazing version of Sting’s Fields of Gold! I dissolved in tears - the voice singing it was so pure, so amazingly heartfelt, it sounded like she had written it herself. To say I was blown away is an understatement. There were 8 songs on there. I have NO idea where it came from! I asked all of my friends, and none of them had given the disc to me, and more frustratingly, nobody knew who this person was. I searched for years to find out who this was. Finally, one day I was in tiny grocery store in a small town near Ojai, CA when suddenly who should come over the speakers than her - that girl! I told my husband, “There she is! Who is she?!?” I heard someone in the next aisle say, “I can tell you!” She came over to us and told us that her name is Eva Cassidy and her story…and that she had passed (at that time) away eight years previously. I was happy, then devastated. I had fallen in love with her interpretations, with her clarity of voice, the bell-like quality; her ability to sing anything and make it totally her own. The fact that this amazing voice was silenced so young, by something that may have been preventable killed me. To this day I do not know how I got this disc. I thank God that it came into my purview. She had the voice of an Angel.
