Eva didnt need recognition. I found Eva today. I'm 54 and blown away i had never heard this voice. All good things will come forth eventually. I'm going there, too.

I've always heard this song, slow and somber. When the music started, I thought, "I think I've come to one of Eva's songs that I don't like." Boy was I ever wrong!!! This woman could sing your grocery list and make it beautiful. I guess she's that wayfaring stranger. She's gone home, no more to roam. A gain for heaven, but such a loss for us.

So did I. This is not the way I prefer Wayfaring Stranger is sung, but her voice still makes it an unbelievable experience.
@gynack4 жыл бұрын
@@tobiasoellers146 I would say this is not the way I would NORMALLY like it to be sung. However, this particular version is great. There is also an acoustic version by Eva which is more traditional but I prefer this version of hers. She rocks this one up with that bluesy, jazzy, almost black gospel passion, but she still remains true to the sentiments of the song.

What hasn’t been said about Eva Cassidy. She had everything. Her voice will never die out. She didn’t know it, but she left a huge hole, that nobody since has filled. Raw talent. Powerful, soft, meaningful voice. She didn’t just sing a song, she became the song, putting her whole self into every performance. Trying to think of somebody that can, or wants to do that today, ,,,,,,, nope , can’t think of anyone . She was unique, and if I am ever trapped on an island, I hope to god I have her music with me. Thanks to Sir Terry Wogan for opening our ears to her greatness. God rest you both. DB.

@gynack4 жыл бұрын
@@lucytupper69 It's fairly traditional, but also excellent. There are also excellent version by Doc Watson and EmmyLou Harris but I think this version remains my own favourite. Doc Watson I like a lot. Very traditional, he has a resonant, natural baritone voice, and the acoustic guitars of himself and his son (and a later version with his grandson years after his son Merle had died) have a lovely resonance to them. Very well worth a listen.

I am a poor wayfaring stranger While journeying through this world of woe Yet there's no sickness toil nor danger In that bright land to which I go I'm going there to see my father I'm going there no more to roam I'm only going over Jordan I'm only going over home I know dark clouds will gather over me I know my way is rough and steep Yet beautiful fields lie just before me And God's redeemed their vigils keep I'm going there to see my father I'm going there no more to roam I'm only going over Jordan I'm only going over home I'm going there to see my mother I'm going there no more to roam I'm only going over Jordan I'm only going over home I want to wear that crown of glory When I get home to that good land Well I want to shout salvation's story In concert with the blood-washed band I'm going there to see my Savior Oh I'm going there no more to roam I'm only going over Jordan I'm only going over home Well I'm only going over home Yeah only going over home I'm only going over home

Not only is Eva flat out amazing in these pieces, but the orchestration and recording quality are impeccable. Resisting the temptation to over produce and over perform that is so prevalent. I must also commend the musicians, music director, sound engineer and producers. Thank you to everyone who worked on these records but none so much as to Eva herself.

Don't call people "Haters" just because they don't like a song. I like this song a lot and there are many good renditions, Hayde and Doc Watson coming to my mind immediately. this is a completely different treatment from any other. I can imagine some folk not ling this treatment - nothing to do with hate - so why can't you. As for me, I think this is absolutely brilliant. One of my all time favourite, but I can still figure out why some people dislike it.

WAYFARING STRANGER by Johnny Cash I'm just a poor wayfaring stranger Traveling through this world below There is no sickness, no toil, nor danger In that bright land to which I go I'm going there to see my Father And all my loved ones who've gone on I'm just going over Jordan I'm just going over home I know dark clouds will gather 'round me I know my way is hard and steep But beauteous fields arise before me Where God's redeemed,

Question please... what’s mean by “jordan” in the lyrics ???
@bernadonna-e1uomo9294 жыл бұрын
to go over Jordan means to die
@LaunaBodde4 жыл бұрын
It is a metaphor for a rite of passage, freedom, and promises fulfilled. The Israelites crossed the River Jordan when they were freed and some believe John The Baptist baptized Jesus in the River Jordan.
@nathanbarnes85354 жыл бұрын
Jordan is symbolic, it means to cross over the river, to transition to the other side, in other words, to die.

No! No! No! Love Eva but this song shouldn’t be jazzed up like this!
@gynack4 жыл бұрын
Piscesmoon Why not? It's no mockery, and it's passionate. Furthermore, it seems that Eva was a religious person. This is exactly the kind of thing you could often hear from the likes of Mahalia Jackson. Okay, Eva's voice is very different from Mahalia or most other Black Gospel singers, but it's what they often do. In fact, she does it better than a lot of the modern-day Gospel singers who are obsessed with long, complicated runs that take away from the music. The guitar backing, admittedly is particularly jazzy, but so what? Is that worse than playing it as if it's a Bluegrass song?
@alanac88344 жыл бұрын
Don’t get me wrong I like jazz but this is one song that just shouldn’t have a jazz cover
@AyeWitness Жыл бұрын
Sadly when Eva was only hours from dying she still had no idea where she’s go to. She’s no faith in Jesus as having paid with his own life- a living sacrificed lamb or sinners. No awareness of her need to be saved by Jesus- forgiven by Jesus. Say some female so called spiritual guru was all Eva had in her final hours in the way of any help to prepare for eternity. Basic what I’m saying is Eva wasn’t saved. Maybe she wasn’t a sinner. Maybe she was perfect and didn’t require a saviour. But Bible says all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God ( Jesus Christ made it possible for whosoever believes on him, to be saved.

In her songs she sings she has been redeemed, it seems to be the answer, maybe she died for sinners she was 33
