Contemporary thought regarding homosexuality cannot be superimposed on the times when Merv Griffin was living. Being "out" could and many times would "kill" a career in show biz. And frankly, by today's standards whose business is it?

Surprisingly, the very last thing the robot said was 100% true and meaningful. Essentially: If Merv Griffin couldn't stand up and change the perception of his own demographic, it indicates "little hope" for future generations. True. Some things have changed- marriage, for one- but there is not one single openly gay male A-list film star.
