Jeffrey Aguilar well, Destiny 2 was in a really bad state thanks the horrible Curse of Osiris expansion and the decent, but short Warmind. Cayde’s death and avenging him was the motive of playing Forsaken. If they didn’t show that then what would they show to make players buy it when the game was in a bad state? If you’re referring to the cutscene where he fights scorn, they showed him dying in the E3 trailer. Edit: right now the game is in a tough spot, season of the worthy is disappointing. Edit 2: Season of Arrivals was great, but the additional few months really milked it dry. Beyond Light looks interesting.

As much as Cayde was one of my fav NPCs (Eris Morn will forever be my bias) and I will always mourn his death, I think it was important for the game's story. We never had to bury a friend or a beloved NPC in Destiny's history, we would never feel real sadness, disappointment or rage. Destiny hasn't given us any reason to become really emotionally entangled with the story or the fantasy universe. Cayde's death changed that massively. Forsaken had me dive deeply into the game. Before, I have never thought about reading lore or having an opinion about other NPCs, questioning what it means to be a Guardian and how this way actually forbids me to be emotional. I've come to pity Zavala for being such a coward, I respect Ikora more since she helped us in secret, I didn't chose the Vanguard but the Drifter for his always cringe jokes and I got totally fascinated with the pact between Eris Morn and Mara Sov. And I am keen on knowing what happened to Uldren and when we will meet him again as the Guardian he is now. All that would have never happened without Cayde's death.

Yeah sometimes his antics were a gimmick but he was the comedy relief the world needed through all the death, darkness and horror...now that's gone...there is no replacing him. And this was extra painful for me seeing as Uldren, despite being abrasive and a dick, was my second favorite character in the series. Nothin like having one kill the other and then have your guardian kill them in return. I haven't done the other mission with him yet cuz I took a break from D2 during Y2. I hope we get other opportunities to work with Fallen. These are the emotions I experienced from playing through the Forsaken story quests. Sadness: when everyone mourns Cayde’s death. Vengeance: when Zavala doesn’t want to do anything, and you decide to kill Uldren Anger: when the first 6 barons are making fun of how they killed Cayde. Doubt: when the seventh baron calls you a murderer no different than them, since you killed all of his comrades. Doubt/regret: when the eighth baron sets out to kill you and during the fight, drives home further that you’ve killed his friends the same as they did to Cayde, asking you how it felt. Pity: when Uldren is shouting “Sister, Help me” during the last battle, and you realize that he was being manipulated the entire time. Goddamn: when the gunshot sounds I enjoyed this one, Bungie.

Jeydin Alejos You really have to go in and read the lore before you feel any attachment. That I think was a mistake they made- not allowing that lore to be accessible, but now they’ve fixed that. You can go into the menu and read the lore, particularly on Cayde, and it gives you a lot to digest. (Would have been nice to have this feature before this expansion, though, that’s true) There were things I didn’t know about, like how Cayde’s past lives were Cayde 1-5. I think there is unlockable lore about those times that he lived before, based on the fact that Cayde says in a recording that documents of that exists, and that he wants you to discard it if you find it. But anyway, you’re right: it definitely lacked attachment, but I think the decision was a move forward. To me it made things a little more real. I think It all depends on what the next story expansion builds upon whether or not it was a bad move. That’s all in my opinion, though, and I freakin love Cayde

Every guardian can use any subclass. That means that with enough practice and ingenuity a hunter can use nova bomb. Hunters learned how to use blink from Warlocks but instead of manipulating space they use their incredible speed

Okay lemme support Zavala's reason for not wanting to fight. So, during the Red War, Zavala admitted he needed Cayde and Ikora to fight the Cabal. To him Cayde is a brother in arms and he even said he admires Cayde's inspiration to others (I think that was Bungie way of saying "yeah we know Cayde's your favorite.") Now fast forward to Forsaken. Cayde's dead, and with that death, Zavala is now afraid. He's afraid of losing anyone else close to him and the best way he can think of keeping them safe is to simply not fight. Meh Whatevers He is the one who had to make the tough choices. He decided to take back the city even if it meant his own death. After regaining his home and losing so many guardians, he doesn’t want to lose anyone else or lose the city. So when He saw the dead body of his close friend, he probably was filled with rage and sadness, but he has to protect their home. He couldn’t let his anger control him. He could’ve gone full rage mode and send everyone to hunt them, but what if the vex attacked the city? Or the Taken. Or Calus grows some balls and launches a full scale attack while everyone is busy hunting in the reef? This was what was going through his head. He had to make the hard choice.

I understand why people don't like Zavala... most human beings lack the mental capability (This does not mean you're stupid) to understand the reason behind his actions. Zavala is the character in destiny who makes the HARDEST choices in the universe, he could've chosen to abandon the city and start anew but he chose to fight back and reclaim home. He could've just thrown all guardians at the dreadnought and watched as they all failed but he didn't because he valued the lives of his troops and city. He could have gone off and killed Uldren by sending every guardian he has like Ikora said, and left the city undefended for petty revenge, but instead he chose to hold back on his anger and rage and defend those he swore to protect. Zavala can still be your least favorite character... but please understand he has made the hardest choices of all vanguard members in destiny whereas Ikora prefers the easy way out. respect the man who does whatever is better for the good of all he protects rather than the man who seeks the easy way for personal gain.

People complain about Ikkora and Zavala but I think Cayde's death gave them both especially Ikkora a lot of character development. Zavala actually lost a brother in cayde and that death made him not even want to fight. I'd actually like to see when they all became vanguard leaders.

Ichigo Kurosaki I find it really interesting yet very understanding of both characters. Zevala doesn’t want to start a war with the awoken because he knows we aren’t an army. We don’t have soldiers, we can’t conquer the reef or anything. All we have are guardians, and like the name insist, our job is the guard the city and the last of humanity. At the same time, Ikora is overwhelmed with rage, she strongly believes retaliation is to come. The awoken and guardians have always had a mutual relationship and with the murder of cayde, that was a clear sign of aggression that should be followed up by with justice. I love the character development in this campaign.

This expansion made it clear how far Uldren had fallen from grace-which makes sense why he allied with the Scorn-and really makes you question who is in the right, as well. When I first heard of this expansion, I was as consumed with vengeance as everyone else at the sight of Cayde's death. But, finally seeing it makes me wonder if it was worth it, in the end. I liked how care-free Cayde was, even in his final moments. His last words made me respect him a lot more, as he did see his station as Hunter Vanguard as an honor, despite him wanting to get back out in the field. It'll be hard to fully accept he's gone, but he'll always be remembered. Despite never liking the guy, I still felt pity for Uldren. It's obvious the death of his sister caused him to descend into madness and had, unknowingly, unleashed a servant of the Darkness in his insane quest to resurrect Mara Sov. If it was possible, I would've actually let him go. As the Ghost said, Uldren was finished-all of his followers are dead, he can barely stand, and is unarmed. He had no power, now, and thus wasn't worth it. He was a pathetic sight to see and he lost everything in a mad quest for a voice in his head he thought was Mara and his mind was too fractured to question why he was hearing her voice. All in all, this was an amazingly emotional expansion and I am eager to see what they have planned next.

After watching this a few times I noticed something. Our guardian doesn’t kill Uldren. In beginning cutscene when uldren shoots cayde, the gunshot is the sound that the ace of spades makes. The gunshot in the final cutscene is the sound vestian dynasty makes.

Uldren is one of my favorite Destiny characters (go ahead kill me) but this really shows how much a great character he is. I’m so glad his motive for everything was his sister and not something like eternal power or some bullshit. Honestly I think it would’ve been cool for him to realize quickly that the voice of riven is not his sister right as he summons it then the player shows up so your stuck in a battle where your forced to work with your worst enemy and then he gets away. That would’ve been cool.

1) the monster at the end isn't Riven. It's listed as "Chimera" or, "The voice of Riven". Riven is the boss fight in the Raid. 2) Riven is an Ahamkara, aka, a Dragon in Destiny Lore. Mara was the only one who could control Riven, and now that Mara is "dead" after Taken King, Riven has no one to stop it taking advantage of people's wishes. 3) Has no one noticed Uldren's costume change? He's covered in scales... like a dragon. Makes me wonder if it's an outer representation Riven's control/influence over him.
