Are the lens Moment M mount or T mount? As the claim to have solve the softness on the T

Appreciate the perspective on these. It does appear that you have the M series, which would explain some of the extra softness you experienced. I had M series since iPhone 12 Pro Max and did the trade in program to upgrade to the T series for a few of them now that I’m on a 14 Pro Max, and there is a noticeable difference so far. You’re also spot on with the observation about being intentional about the purchase and use. I went in having one set of expectations of how and when I’d use them, and that shifted, but now they get solid usage, either for flavor or enabling shots that really wouldn’t work otherwise. For example, I thought the use case for the 58 mm would be to 2x the tele for more reach … but really, making portraits and increasing real bokeh on closer in subjects proved the better use case. Those who are regretting not having something between the 1x and 5x on iPhone 15 pro max might appreciate having the T series on their 1x. The macro lenses really are wildly different (and better IMO) than the built in option, if you’re into that style, with a really shallow depth of field (to the point where you need to focus stack sometimes). The fisheye is just kinda fun (and sometimes practical in tight spaces). But yeah, all of this does mean carrying a small sling and futzing with lenses and filters - really can’t pocket it. As someone who came from DSLR and has gone “down” to the phone as my primary camera, I’m ok with it, but you have to do what works for you - definitely not for everyone.

the "as creatives we think new gear will make an immediate difference (for the better) but we actually have to learn to use it" statement in this video is SO REAL. I keep learning it the hard way damn it. But honestly, it is such a gamechanger to just do the 5 minute tutorials usually built in before diving into "hacks" etc. as they real do get you comfortable, are self-affirming (subtle acts to reassure you that you can learn new things, it's not too hard to learn, not to give up on new gear or mediums, processes too soon etc.) and small little steps over time ADD UP. It can be tedious but you don't have to be an EXPERT right away. if you struggle with perfectionism don't let it get you to stop progressing. Just do 5 minutes of learning of a new tool and it (toxic perfectionism and mindset) will slowly start to concede to trusting the process. 💖🤘

Nice story. I’m still getting new gear 😂
@mstp14Ай бұрын
6 mins in and the answer is clear. You dont need any pf those. Not even for general pro photography. Most of their effect can be done post with sufficient photo/video editing wizardry 😄 The lenses are for specific cases that you MAYBE want once every few hundred photo/videos. And even then they are finicky and likely to give subpar results.
@2071photo10 ай бұрын
I think you may have gotten the older versions of these lenses because they also just recently released their t* upgraded lenses which they showed in a video to work much better than the older lenses. I only looked into it because I still have the older version of the lenses and was bummed they are no longer compatible.

You really missed the point of the telephoto lens. You’re supposed to use it to INCREASE the zoom of the phone not use the same zoom you already have. Wish you would’ve talked about that
@MrTsolar21 күн бұрын
Agree. With the gear I have currently, I have to choose between 4k60 HDR or 20x optical zoom. I want to know for sure if I can stack a 2x lens on the iPhone 16 Pro’s 5x camera and get a 10x optical zoom, or go really crazy and get 30x optical zoom with the 5x camera and 6x Sandmarc telephoto lens. If you watch one of my videos, you’ll see why I need the zoom. I can’t legally get closer to what I’m filming.

Respectfully, Moment capitalized on a time when phones didnt have more than one camera. The excitement was real but once you actually started shooting with these, all pocketability went out yhe window. Each of these lenses protudes out to a point where you can no longer put your phone is your pocket. And carrying out a bunch of these, small as they are is still a hassle. I would say with todays phones with 3 and up to 5 cameras, these are obsolete or not necessary. Sold mine many many years ago.

@getfmlr27 күн бұрын
@@ThomasJeffersonWolfcall-kn3bx still have to fiddle around with 3 or 4 different lenses and a specific case to use them, when I can just pull out my phone that has those focal lengths (except maybe macro? Which is niche anyway). Oh and I can still use a fanny pack. Point is I already paid for the phone that has all that. Why pay more (and not cheap either) to get all the same things and have to carry them around and swap them out eveytime I need to change focal length. With the inbuilt phone, one button press and voila.
@123fourfivesix-g4i2 ай бұрын
I've gone the phone camera lens route. What it came down to was if I'm going to be carrying around lens to shoot and to produce better-quality pictures that my phone can't take on its own, I might as well just carry an actual camera that hands down will capture better pictures and use better lenses. Now if I was a content creator strictly for social media and was focusing more on video then at least the anamorphic lens would be worth the extra hassle of carrying around lens.

You are right on the learning curve and the advantages that this lenses can provide for a content creator/photographer/videographer, my recommendation is (which i didn't saw you mention it) its that you can use the lenses in all the other cameras, for example (in my experience) using the Tele 58mm on the iPhone Tele lens gives you more reach and improve (in my opinion) the bokeh of the lens. If you mix and try different stuffs with all the cameras may creative possibilities can open up. In my case I have the 18mm ultra wide which I use on my Pixel 4XL for the main camera and with the Filmic Pro app, when using the app with the settings 4K+ 60p the crop is really aggressive and the lens gives back more FOV than the main lens without the crop which is really useful. Other than that, great content.

Imo People would, with no doubt, be better off with a 10 year old dslr and a prime lens. Remember your first pictures - they weren't great but were necessary for learning. Fail fast and limit cost - not getting into overpriced iPhones(that Apple actually can screw with for making you want to buy the newest one)

Your video makes it sound like you have to have this to accomplish that look when thats just not the case. Also if you use Gimp or Photoshop and take a quality photo to start then you can make a more quality fisheye look than what that app and lens are producing for you no?...

Nah, looks like a gimmick and a hassle to me. Who would even be the target audience for these? Influencers? Photography enthusiasts will go for DSLRs. And a professional photographer showing up for a shoot with a set of these will definitely raise eyebrows.
@getfmlr10 ай бұрын
Seems like a gimmick now but you have to realize Moment started offering these at a time when phones didnt have more than one camera. So at the time, being able to do wide angle and telephoto was only possible using these external attachments.
@Toppu10 ай бұрын
@@getfmlr sure thing, I'm aware of that. But even a few years ago, was the fish-eye effect really THAT popular? To me it just looks like something you'd buy and then forget about a couple of weeks later. Again, this is just my opinion.

@@Toppu not saying you are wrong. It's just at the time it was nice to have the option when your cell phone only had one camera. The most popular models were the wide angle and the telephoto lens. These days cellphones have both so the external attachments are redundant.
