Just as a heads up: If you guys ever do decide to sell dice-- like fans suggested-- you should not use those molds. Those molds actually used a preexisting dice maker's dice for the master's without their consent. And most dice makers-- Dispel Dice, the maker of dice that that model was made with, included-- trademark/copyright their fonts. Because of that, it's recommended you actual 3D sculpt and print your own dice, that way there is no infringement, or you pay to use an un-trademarked/copyrighted typeface. Dispel has taken the whole a-company-is-using-my-dice-to-mass-sell-molds thing really well all things considered and has said they don't mind if people who don't know better-- like you guys--buy them and use them for personal use/practice. Just don't sell them in mass. That being said, a fellow KZbinr Rybonator, has an entire channel dedicated to dice making if you are interested in learning more! He's actually had a video about these models and said they weren't fantastic for all the reasons you guys listed. Sorry for being a Debby Downer, I just wanted to give you guys a heads up just in case!

@@MClara-ep4sf Look at the lighting in the lead up to it; it's not a half-and-half. If you do a frame-by-frame at the point the light turns out, then you can see that the little points of light from devices around the room move very slightly, indicating the cameras was not in the exact same place, whereas the clock does not move; this makes me suspect that the clock from the later shot was pasted over the earlier shot. The reflection of the clock on the table is indistinct enough that you can't see whether it matches or not. This is some absolutely beautiful editing!

Tip for the syringes from a veterinary nurse: after drawing up the fluid, tilt the syringe back so the needle's in the air, and tap the side to push the liquid towards the plunger and the air you drew up towards the tip, then push the air out with the plunger while tapping the sides. (basically what you see people doing in those medical dramas) I noticed that might be why you were getting air pockets when you were injecting the resin into the molds.

Guys, the community of custom dice for table top RPGs like Dungeons and Dragons is huge, awesome, and highly addicting. This is really awesome that this is your interest, but I promise you, it will lead you down a very deep rabbit hole, and by the end, you won't even be able to complain. If either of you get a chance to play D&D (Fifth Edition is often considered the most beginner friendly), please try it out. There's a math/rule hurdle at the very beginning when learning that turns people off, but try and stick with it until you actually play, it gets a lot easier and makes more sense when you're actually playing.
@kristysmith97234 жыл бұрын
Agree. I like pre-gen characters when learning a new system, especially for one-off games like at a con or casual games with friends. 5th character creation isn't terrible (compared to something like pathfinder), but if you have no idea what you want or why particular numbers are important, it's hard to do. If you've played a scenario or two with a basic character, you'll have a sense of what stats are important for the different classes. I'd suggest you reach out to your local games groups and arrange a single scenario game to start with, then go to a con to try different role play systems, until you find one that clicks. D&D is only the best known of many!

as a side note from someone who works exclusively with resin and pigment powder, you can actually mix the pigment into part b first before mixing a and b together. it gives you wayyyyy more time to work with the colors and the extra time also helps the resin soak into the clumps.

Okay, so, this might get drowned in the comments, but I've seen quite a few Rybonator videos (he makes a lot of videos about DIY DnD projects), and I can see why there are a lot of voids. First of all, most of these dice molds are meant to be used without a pressure pot, this however does come with the risk of air bubbles. If you however are going to use a pressure pot, you'll need to add an excess. Also, I don't think it's useful to use a vacuum chamber, as using pipets or syringes can still introduce air bubbles, this means you'll lose precious time you should have been using to fill the molds. I've also noticed that in later videos he doesn't even bother using these pre-made dice molds and sticks to his tried and tested methods of creating his own molds. This has the added benefit that he can actually create resin reservoires in the molds themselves.

Love it! If you do this again, pull the plunger completely out of the syringe and cap them, then place them upright in cups and fill them by pouring into the tops *then* de-gas them in the vacuum. Replace the plunger and fill your molds. That way you won't reintroduce air while filling the syringes. Pouring in vs. drawing up the needle is also just be a faster way to fill the syringes so you don't lose so much of your resin working time.

"someone tell us how to play D&D" Oh honey... You're in for a lot more than you even know. First, you need enough people to play. You'll want at least two other people. You absolutely should have a somewhat experienced dungeon master and a party of 3 players or more. The dungeon master will tell you the things you can or can't do and you learn through playing. There isn't any enjoyment to be had from reading the player's hamdbook alone. It's not exactly light reading. Not that you'd even consider it but... I'D LOVE TO SHOW YALL HOW TO PLAY >~

I love you guys. You've got the chemistry I hope my son finds in a partner, someday. I have seen you guys struggle with bubbles a LOT, so I just wanted to suggest you built a vibrating table to help drive off some bubbles before you pressure cure your resin creations. Some constructive tips from someone who works with syringes all day long. When you draw up the liquid/resin the first time, draw up a few cc's and then push it back out. This will get rid of most of the air in the hub. Look for larger gauge needles, as large as will fit. Keep the molds level . You're going to want to fill it up all in one go, if possible. Avoid pulling the needle out and putting it back in. If you want multiple colors, try drawing up multiple colors. Or, draw up the second color in a different syringe. Inject the first color from syringe #1, then leave the needle from the first color in the mold (unscrewing the luer lock) and then screw syringe #2 on to the needle. Think about using vibration or small impacts to dislodge bubbles, maybe a massager, electric toothbrush or whatever you find in the back of Evan's sock drawer ; p

Hi, Evan and Katelyn! I’m not sure if anyone has suggested this to y’all, but I’ve found that if your resin starts getting too thick before you’re done working with it, about 30 seconds under a heat gun tends to make it more runny again, and easier to work with. I make custom resin tumblers, and this is a LIFE SAVER for me. It might help you have fewer voids in your molds, as well, since lower viscosity will encourage it to flow into all the crannies of the mold.
