I just remembered this book where people used multiple layers of cloth or something soaked in a resin then tightly pressed together to be used as armour instead of steel. While I assume they were talking about tree resin, I wonder if that's something that could actually work?

If there's air bubbles appearing in a closed system like this, that's a direct result of bacteria decomposing the pumpkin. You've got to kill basically all the bacteria if this is to work! Otherwise, it'll be leaky pumpkin again
