Thanks for the inspiring content. I am an ethnic Chinese Malaysian and even I feel very sad for MR Lee's passing. My extended family find their success in Singapore after they left Malaysia and my dad had a liver transplant in Singapore in 2002. Without the transplant he would not have lived past 50. Doctors in Malaysia did not have the expertise nor the equipment to carry out a life transplant then. And yes ,ironically, the doctor who performed the transplant is a Malaysian originally from Selangor. Even as a Malaysian, I feel more love and admiration for Singapore than my very own birth country. It is my deepest hope Singapore will continue to be a first world country and rise to the very top in SEA .

I'm from South Korea. I studied in Singapore years ago, when I was in Primary School. Great nation, amazing place. I miss Singapore very much, and would love to visit again. People who criticise Mr. Lee Kuan Yew for being "authoritarian" have most likely never experienced how safe, clean and prosperous Singapore is. In Singapore, you can literally walk home at night from the tuition centre and it's completely fine. You wouldn't be able to do that in Europe or America. Mr. Lee Kuan Yew knew what was best for his nation, and wasn't swayed by Western ideals in the slightest. I respect him very much.

@@VigneshKaushik In my opinion, a heavy downpour is a sign of God’s wrath. In the days of Noel, God pours down the rain for 40 days and 40 nights to destroy the world because of a sinful world. LKY had indeed done a great service to Singapore but at the expense of many who were being persecuted and imprisoned without trial. And some of those were his buddies and people who have supported, helped him to become the PM of Singapore. From the time Mr Lee Kuan Yew first became the Prime Minister of Singapore, the Western world and the liberal media have always been very critical of him and of the political system in Singapore. They poured scorn on his ideas, they criticized the way he governed, they called him a dictator, they doubted the validity of the election results. When he passed away, Singaporeans turned out in droves to mourn. The way that Singaporeans mourned for him confirmed that when Lee Kuan Yew led his party to decisive victory election after election, the results were not fluke. The entire Singapore was solidly behind him!

So true! No one can claim to be perfect. Only hindsight can reveal the true worth of a person and his/her achievements once he/she has passed on - the legacy that's left behind. As a decent human being, we honor and pay tribute to a person's goodness and virtues, and disregard his/her imperfections, if the former outweighs the latter. This is what decency is all about! If one keeps digging up imaginary dirt and throwing mud at a deceased person, that person is worse than an ingrate beast and not worth wasting your breath nor energy on him! He will get his just rewards from God (whoever he believes in) in due time!

Sri Lanka enjoyed a booming economy due it the price in rubber. In 1957 Sri Lanka enjoyed another boom due to its price in tea. Sri Lanka was very beautiful and prosperous in 1950s. @@southerngirl0085 you cannot blame the ethnic Chinese for being discriminating. Ethnic Chinese are practical and all they want is to have tenants who will pay promptly and give less problems. Unlike Muslims for example who mostly would only rent out their homes to their own kind due to religious reasons, the ethnic Chinese normally would not be selective as long as you meet the criteria above. However, from decades of experiences and sharing of information, the ethnic Chinese knows from unwritten statistics that the other races have higher tendency of absconding without pay or make damages to the house. I have witnessed this through my own mother although another property was paid fairly on time. Even Malay bosses told me frankly how difficult it is to do business with their race and others unlike the Chinese who pays promptly without overdue debts. This is not to say that there are all black sheeps in a particular race and not all sheeps are white among the Chinese. But the fact is, the frequency of incidents will accumulate over time and account for people's perception.

Great and humbling to see our late former leader being embraced by the world. Missed him alot. Really alot. If he had been there for the world than just SG, the world would really become a much better place. His passion lives on.

We miss LKY even he had passed on. He know how to motivate and put the best man on the job to build Singapore. He did not want yes men in his government. He wants men who debate with him for better solutions on solving national issues and problems. This are things we really miss !

The late Lee Kuan Yew is one of a century. Thank God for giving him to be PM of Singapore. He and his cabinet build up Singapore with passion. No one is like him.

Thank you, Evan, that was a lovely compilation. And nice surprise at the end. Lee Kuan Yew was obviously a terrific leader and a great orator. Singapore is like the jewel of Asia, from such simple beginnings, and the occupation during WW2, to such high status now in the world! Amazing success story! Consistency in his intention, and the strength of character to know what could be attempted without giving in to adverse circumstances, plus knowing his people well. Singapore IS his legacy. Truly, a life well lived.
