Paul Orfalea's Top 10 Rules For Success

1. Keep making it better
Due to his dyslexia and ADD, he reportedly flunked two grades and was expelled from several schools.
2. See the success around you
Despite being fired from a number of jobs, his family supported him in his determination to launch his own business.
3. Create your own rules
He decided to start up his own business while he was attending USC.
4. Take risks
With a $5,000 bank loan co-signed by his parents, he founded Kinko's in 1970.
5. Cultivate your intuition
Within ten years, Kinko’s grew to a network of over 80 stores across the country.
6. Look at your business
Rather than franchise, he formed partnerships with each individual store's local co-owners.
7. Remove obstacles
He put a high value on employee satisfaction.
8. Get a good night's sleep
His open-for-24-hours policy increased the store's popularity.
9. Trust people
He's currently a philanthropist and a visiting professor at the University of California.
10. Work, love and play
Kinko’s was acquired by Federal Express in 2004 and was renamed FedEx Kinkos.

Impressive. I stumbled across this and was trying to figure out if the computer mentioned me because I was logged in, but you actually noted my previous post. Thanks for following up. This was great, the first time I've heard a leader question handing out shallow praise with no deeper though ('nice painting,' 'good job,' but not 'why'd you do that?' I ask for details like 'what is going on' or 'tell me the story behind it.' Such a nice perspective in this day of blowhards like Elon Musk or Mark Cuban.
