In this inspiring talk, Paul Orfalea, the founder of Kinko's, shares his journey and the principles that guided his success. Paul discusses his struggles with ADD and how it turned into a strength in business. He emphasizes the importance of being restless and constantly seeking new ideas. Paul highlights that he couldn't conform to the traditional education system and had to find his own path, which eventually led him to create Kinko's, a company renowned for its innovative approach and employee-friendly culture.
Paul reflects on his management philosophy, stressing that the primary role of management is to remove obstacles for employees, not create them. He shares anecdotes from his early days at Kinko's, where he focused on finding opportunities and making improvements every day. Paul believes in nurturing a positive work environment where employees feel valued and are driven by a sense of purpose. He credits the success of Kinko's to the dedication and enthusiasm of its employees, who felt empowered to serve customers effectively.
In addition to business insights, Paul offers life lessons on balance and trust. He talks about the importance of getting a good night's sleep and maintaining a balance between work, love, and play. Paul advises future leaders to cultivate trust, both in themselves and in others, and to lead by example. He encourages embracing curiosity and staying informed about current events to make better decisions. girohead:
Enjoyable, but someone needs to admit that the accolades for Gates, Jobs, Branson, Zuckerberg, have been played. I dare you to highlight Kinko's founder Paul Orfalea as a different type of entrepreneur, in boring commodity industry that was truly successful. I'd also settle for Fred Smith of Fed Ex, we know ALL the stories of all the others
