Rule #2 hits home the most for me. I'd first heard this advice a couple years ago from Elon Musk who phrased it as "seek criticism." Although I acknowledged the importance of the advice at the time, this speech by Frisella really made it sink in; it described me. This also applies to my avoidance of admitting that this channel, that Evan Carmichael has helped me stay motivated, achieve clarity, receive wisdom, and remain focused on a regular basis, whereas beforehand I had difficulty staying consistent. yes, push, persevere, but do not be delusional. Too many entrepreneurs are delusional thinking that all that matters is hard work, and just putting the hours in. Smart work matters too. And too many entrepreneurs do not know how to develop the startups. Study Lean Startup, Customer Development, business models, business model canvas etc. Starting a company doesn't get enough respect from the founders themselves who think that just doing things will get them to the goal. Substance matters.

smart guy, but did say something contradictory to what I've heard: he said not to develop products based on what you like, but what the market likes. my understanding is that you should aim to be original, and that comes from following your unique set of interests, not what is currently popular in the marketplace.

I do believe it was meant in the sense of making sure it is of service to others. Providing a solution to others' problems. You can be original and do what you like, but if it isn't providing value to others then it will fail. I believe that is what he was getting at.

He said, "You weren't there when he couldn't take a salary for five years saying, "Oh man, that dude is really lucky when his girlfriend left because he's a loser."" It just means that we only sometimes are able to see the result of other people's success but not the hard times they have to go through to achieve those success as we are not there when - for example, they couldn't take a salary from their business since they are not earning yet or when at the time they are doing the grind and working to be successful, his girlfriend left because she thinks he's a loser but we usually say they are lucky because they are already successful so we should not say or think that because they have to do hard work for it.
