wow, I'm impressed. that's the mother of midi setups...he must have about 30 sound modules linked to volume pedals via programmable/present tone banks routed via reverb and delays then into a mix desk....or a digitized version fun by a mac/ midi controller. he has every sound playing at once but fades them in or out via pedals...now that's clever....and remembering each pedal for each sound module...that's also clever....bit like watching an organist in church...what a great use of technology and really understanding your 'kit'. and then having the talent and taste to create something wonderful with it all.....what a guy.

There are a few born among us that become the gifts to the world. We are nurtured and amazed by them and what they can do. Vangelis was such a gift. His talent for music was far-reaching to those lucky enough to hear his work. But his music is as eternal as those who continue the celebrate his greatness, and thus he shall live forever. Thank you for sharing with the world your blessings of melody and song...

If anyone had told me you could play an entire orchestra concert on two keyboards and a synthesizer, I never would have believed it. I had always thought vangelis layered and composed over dubs that took days or even weeks. Or months even. I am deeply awe-struck.
@PedroLucas-hk3vo
@PedroLucas-hk3vo 9 жыл бұрын
akasha clanclan indeed. When i first heard about Vangelis, around 1984, I also thought it was impossible for a single man, without knowledge of music notation, to actually compose. Our Man is ingenious, he can imagine sounds, instruments, he can play entire pieces by himself and still feel symphonic-like.
@evado68

Really incredible if this was all played live by one man, without pre-mixing. The sounds, the frequency spectrum and the timing seem all perfect.

Vsngelis always said he likes to play, not "program", or "produce", or "write". So many proud terms that Vangelis doesn't use. He likes to play. And music is a performance art. But since we consider DJ's musicians these days, we've fallen too low culturally to appreciate the performance itself. Most musicians prize themselves sayng "I wrote", "I produced", "I programmed". Rarely anyone works on techniques and performance these days. Vangelis had very good technique, and excellent performance skills. Although to play comfortably in such setup, took years of not decades. Just like it takes years or decades to play organ pedals. Vangleli is not a follower though, he's a leader. That's what originality is about. He is himself. He just doesn't follow trends.
@wilhelmorangenbaum163
@wilhelmorangenbaum163 3 жыл бұрын
@@dvamateur What is wrong whit saying "I wrote"? Practically all the body of orchestral music (the music he is imitating here) is written down, because it has to, because large heterogeneous ensembles can only function this way. Do you think that is possible replicate, let's say, a symphonic poem by Strauss or a symphony by Mahler only having one person? The Orchestra still is an incomparable medium, one that you only can exploit it's full potential if you know how to write for it. Composers have been writting down their music for centuries and there's nothing wrong with that.
@Dave1507
@Dave1507 2 жыл бұрын
@@wilhelmorangenbaum163 i'd say after watching this video, yes, it is possible, because that's exactly what he does in this video. He plays an entire orchestra, and he is indeed 'just' one man.

Imagine all different skills to make this happens on a single keyboard, with different sound modules, activated/disactivated by a serie of pedals, each with their own volume and maybe even modulated soundscapes per musicinstrument-sound... And even changing music instrument sounds by switching knobs in that modules on the fly.. Incredible to be able to perform such orchestral complex and arranged sound by one person in this way...

Although I am fascinated by this..In truth, most of us would love to see him with an array of CS80's and all the analogue gear he worked to the bone to bring us our cherished memories of his beautiful albums from decades ago. To me he looks happier now, content playing the system he designed for himself to play his ultimate spur of the moment compositions. He deserves this happiness , every bit of it... for every moment of happiness he has brought to me.

Equipment will not solve anything. Either you have the skills, or you don't. Btw, what you see in this video, you might as well get all in one small Macbook. Everyone can do this. Humans is only attached to persons / idols because of either nostalgic reasons or out of self-insecurity.

Vangelis would make great music even with a clavinet or with those types of equipment. His first solomeasterpiece albums are with just a clavinet or a hammond. And his other great albums before with even less. Equipment does not change your music. It gives more possibilities and enhancements but it does not affect very much.

@@rabarebra it is true that I am not a fan of the samples loaded in Vangelis midi synths after 1992. But I think he prioritized the fact that he could everything in ine place, and maybe his weight issue made it hard to move around instead of everything installed in one. However he achieved some great sounds after 2000 but mostly in some Nasa tracks that were not released in albums. He is still the genius painter of creating his own sounds. But i think he prioritized the fact of being loaded all in one so that he doesnt move with the weight problems.

I've always Loved Vangelis' example for the purity of a channel he is. He designs everything to serve that purpose. It's a shame that the years I've spent developing the same sort of ease of workflow has kept me so long from making music myself, but finally I have my system nearly complete. I so look forward to have time soon to be a musician\channel once again. Thank you, Vangelis, for remaining steadfast and proving that nothing is impossible. Thank you also for taking the time to speak with me on the phone around '80 while you were working at Nemo Studios. Our conversation provided enough inspiration to endure at least half a lifetime, and helped me greatly along my journey. :-)

Due to that - and the fact that I work a full time job, and have other domestic responsibilities, etc., it’s been a slow process of putting it back together. I look forward to posting videos of myself working with it over the course of this next year. Tsrbassny Thiago Thank you so, so much for this great video! And thanks to Life for having given us Vangelis, his presence has been such a mark in so many's lives, who, like me, have grown up listening to his creations and enjoying the best moments. His work with Jon, with Papas, his version of "Jerusalem" (imho the best one!), the Movements in "Mask" and "Soil Festivities" (omg, I could never leave any one of his compositions out of a list...) is so full of Talent, which is a Gift of Love from Life, it has certainly made my existence happier. And better. Blessings to Vangelis and to you all.
