Did this on my e46. Wheel looked knackered. I hated the wrap around covers and most retrimmers want a small fortune for that. Spent about £20 to seal, dye and and wrap the plastic and it looks good as new

In order to properly recolor you need to evenly scuff the surface with some 3000-5000 grit. This will allow the color to evenly adhere to the leather and also give you a more uniform finish. The areas which were not as worn will not hold the color and it will quickly wear off leaving you with a two-tone black finish. You probably already know this now though lol.

So, I ordered the kit and just got thru cleaning and degreasing my wheel. It actually looks great!!! I am now rethinking dyeing it at all. The area that you didn't dye (which you said matched great), did you just apply the shield to it, and that was it?!

When you applied the sealer, is it normal to have black dye on the application cloth? I waited to apply the sealant the next day to allow it to cure.

Hi having a hard time figuring the dye color for my steering wheel dealer says that it’s only the seat color that shows with the vin. I think it’s similar to the one u use , what would be the color for it ? Is it Anthracite by any chance ? Thanks

Hey man, thanks for making this video! I have the same steering wheel, in pretty bad condition. The main difference being at the back behind my wheel the leather is peeling off, or at least the old protective layer. Would you recommend sanding the wheel down first with a fine sandpaper?

I see Autokit is stuck loading in the background 😂🤦‍♂️. My Autokit isn’t reliable and randomly disconnects mid drive. Also it always prompts me to allow USB access before using CarPlay. Can’t figure out how to fix it

Awesome video. Quick question Evan, I just replaced my transmission due to the original one making loud noises. Both gearboxes are the same but now my car won't start with the new one. Any ideas? Do I need to programme the new tranny?

You use degreaser and cleaner to remove all the oils and dirt to ensure the dye takes to the leather, then you proceed to keep touching the wheel before the applications. The oils in your hands is how oil gets into the leather to begin with. It was tough to watch you keep contaminating the leather by touching and rubbing the wheel. Good video otherwise.
