5:53 the way ER's fall damage calculation works is that it just takes the difference of the two landings' height's, but it only counts "stable" ground. The slope she rode down on is "unstable" ground, so the game counts it as fall distance. This is why you can die by falling onto a slope and walking down from the slope.

That first sentence is misleading, if it just calculated the distance between "the two landings hights" then this wouldn't be a problem What your trying to get at is it calculates damage based on time "in air" or fall time, and again, doesn't count slopes or getting stuck in goofy terrain, so prolonging the descent by slowing yourself on a slope actually make the game think you've fallen FARTHER. I first learned this when seeing a clip of someone in, either ds3 or BB, they jumped into a weird patch of trees and got stuck in it fir a few minutes, eventually making it out only to die instantly, despite landing on the same plane they jumped from. because the entire time they were stuck in the tree patch, the game thought they were falling

I remember something similar happening when I played elden ring basically if your riding torrent and you land on an uneven surface it sometimes won't count as landing and fall damage isn't calculated til you land leads to very weird looking falls
