You still make polishing look effortless! Been watching these videos for quite a while now and thank you for showing us rookies how it's done. I took your 4 hour class in Costa Mesa, Ca 2 October's ago and learned a ton there as well. Thank you for taking time out of your day to help the rest of us.

I’ve finally started polishing diamond plate. I work at a fire department and our trucks look so bad. Now that I’m using your advice I’ve got my first piece looking better. I tore through two polishing wheels on one piece of diamond plate though. I need to keep watching and learning more.

I watched your videos before I tackled my 39 east dump trailer over the new years weekend. First thing is thank you for your well educating videos. Second is I learned exactly what you was talking about when you made a comment about the bottom of the tank "turning black". I didnt really understand this until I did the passenger side of the trailer. The last guy that pulled the trailer ran into everything. The whole side was black. I spent over and hour just scrubbing and scrubbing out the black residue out of the scratches and Knicks in the trailer. I used a lot of your tips in my methods of doing the trailer wheels and my trailer. Turned out pretty well. I also feel like I've been hit by frieght train! Its a lot of work!

It gives you a full luster but what after that ? Thanks in advance.

Great video. Quick question, can you color without cutting if your tanks aren’t bad and you just want to bring out a little more shine. Basically is cutting always necessary
@EvanStegerMetalPolishing
@EvanStegerMetalPolishing 4 жыл бұрын
I never color without cutting.
@thanehardy2402
@thanehardy2402 3 жыл бұрын
So It appears half way up the middle section of the tank. During the cut stage you are moving up as you go left to right. Then it seems you are moving down then going back across. Is this because you are trying to build heat and shine? or more so your cut is even with no white lines?

Green is super stiff. I thought the green and red were for steel or chrome, or something. I'm pretty sure that's what it says on the website. Did they change the stiffness order of the buffing wheels? Currently I cut with the orange Wheel and the brown brick provided in The business starter kit. And then I moved to yellow and green. Though I did Use the black brick that I think is more gray to cut originally, because On my most recent truck, the fuel tanks were so oxidized And full of dirt that could not be washed off due to heavy use of flyash Used on this truckers route Because he's off road. Is this the correct way to handle this?

I run all 9" buffs myself from goshineon.com. The Tripoli I also get from time2shine on goshineon.com. It is my own brand and blends that we developed. But you can use 8", 9" or 10" buffs on a 7" grinder. Just 10" buffs will burn the grinder out faster than using an 8 of 9". I hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

@EvanStegerMetalPolishing
@EvanStegerMetalPolishing 4 жыл бұрын
Good question! that is where the art of polishing comes in. There really isn't a good answer to that question. The shitty answer is that you put more on when the pad starts to dry. But when is the pad dry is the unknown variable that changes everyday based on the condition of the metal you are working on and the condition of the weather and elements you are working in. I hope this info is helpful

I really appreciate your video. Everyone has their own style of doing this and I like yours the most. It took my a while to figure out what y'all meant when you say "color". I think you mean to mirror it? On a side note how do you feel when people cry about wearing a thin mask with covid lol. I know I have a chemical mask and some times i wear that for 3 hours straight when dealing with hard core chemicals.
@EvanStegerMetalPolishing

I wear a mask all day everyday and I was built for this headache we call covid. LOL But color is just the mirroring part or the equivalent of turning the lights on in a room. All it does is highlight how good or bad something is.

Enjoy watching your vids. I'm a novice at buffing and have been trying to get the hang of it. Watching your video's have helped quite a bit. I do have a question. What polish do you use when doing by hand? I've been having some issues with surface scratches showing when using a microfiber rag and a metal polish. I use Chemical Guy's light and heavy metal cut's. They work great on area's like diamond plate but show surface scratches when wiping down my tanks. Any way to prevent that? The 378 I drive has been neglected for years, I just got in it in Sept and have been working to get it looking nice. Hard to keep clean being a dirt dummy though. Look forward to watching more in depth videos.

Hey brother , I notice you brown it and than green on top , most guy acid wash an than green to not have a contamination, but you did it smooth, how come?
@EvanStegerMetalPolishing
@EvanStegerMetalPolishing Жыл бұрын
When using compounds from the same "family" you don't have to worry about contamination. I use all of the same brand bars found on our site. www.goshineon.com. Acid is not something I like using.

I have a question for you Evan. I’ve been polishing for about 2 years now and even though I’ve never had any unsatisfied customers, I can’t seem to figure something out that’s been driving me insane. When I’m sanding, cutting, coloring a pontoon, fuel tank, etc I use LED lights and sometimes it drives me nuts because no matter what I try I keep seeing these very faint yellowish, grey, tan lines through my shine, but only when I hold an LED up to it at certain angles. Am I doing something wrong? At first I thought it was running a green/yellow wheel on the 6000 and I was baking in the color but now I run color only on the variable and only cut with the 6000. I’m not seeing as much lines but I can still see them in the finished product and I keep wanting to cut at them to get them blended out but sometimes it makes it worse. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Led is artificial light and the light refracts in directions unnatural. So it’ll show you things that aren’t really there. Check out my hash mark video here on my channel. It’ll help explain more.

When you run out is the best answer. LOL There really isn't a good answer to that question. I go off how well it is cutting and how thick the line is in front of where I am working.

@EvanStegerMetalPolishing 4 жыл бұрын
Color is one of the finishing steps to help reduce hash marks and bring out the color in the metal. It is similar to going into a room and turning the lights on.

@EvanStegerMetalPolishing
@EvanStegerMetalPolishing 4 жыл бұрын
I don't have that happen too often anymore but it has happened in the past. I now keep the keys and if I had to I would put a mechanics lean on the truck. If you did the work they need to pay. If they aren't happy with it then it needs to be negotiated.
