Free tip, been a tri-axle dump truck driver for a paving company for 30 yrs. So u can imagine how long it before any kind of love comes to our truck. new guys are proud, wanna make their truck, theirs. TIP; power wash wheel, soak with easy off, scrub with dish soap and a course 3m foam drywall sander block, rinse. done! 5 mins TOPS, per wheel, and tanks, 20 mins tops! hit again with finer grade sanding block and so on. just for guys without jacks, buffers and what not. Sick vid for in my own shop tho dude. Thumbs up from me guy!

Evan real nice work on those rims. I've done some on my Harley, Big Dog Chopper and cars before by hand. Nice using the machine to do the work for you. One suggestion is to also have your helper use a respirator as no one wants to breathe the dust and compound/silicone into their lungs. Again real nice work!

I never just color. But what I do is if the wheel is nice I start with a softer buff on my cut to reduce the amount of hashmarks. I will have a video out on this soon. Thank you for watching and supporting.

Just wondering what you would do different if the rim was off the truck, and you need to get a respirator for Ty when he is next to you and the Makita. The dust you kicked up when you first hit the second rim while Ty was hand polishing was pretty thick. Just sayin'. I really enjoy your videos, Thank you for all your effort to make them.
@EvanStegerMetalPolishing
@EvanStegerMetalPolishing 4 жыл бұрын
If the rim as off the truck I would lean it up against a wall and polish sections. I also have a jig that I use. And Ty has a respirator just chooses not to wear it. Can lead a horse to water but never force it to drink. Some horses will drown instead of drink.

Always use an aluminum acid to clean the aluminum first it will make the polishing much easier!
@EvanStegerMetalPolishing
@EvanStegerMetalPolishing Жыл бұрын
I highly disagree with that statement but to each their own. I personally find avid makes more work and does long term damage to the wheel. Most people don’t properly neutralize it before polishing and then the first moisture you hit it reactivates and starts eating at your shine. I’d rather sand than use acid.

You can. There are many ways to polish. But for me this way is quicker and less expensive. Helps me keep my cost down while keeping my profits livable. But to each their own. Some say that they get better results for less money than I do. That is why I say to each their own. You'll have to choose what works best for you. On most of my show trucks I do the same technique also.

What does it mean when you see pores and fog after you cut and color? I sanded my battery cover from my dump truck with 400 then I cut and colored it with your brown and orange and green and yellow kit and my end result was fog and a lot of pores. The cut and color processes did achieve a mirror reflection though I'm just trying to figure out if I should have sanded with a 200 or 120 and worked my way up to 400? The pores were kind of deep as well. And I cut it about 5 times and polished 2

Hey Evan Love the videos fantastic work you do, I do drive a semi 2024 cascadia and want to do the same thing to my wheels Will steer and drive however I had a quick question, I really don't want to invest in another grinder. I have a grinder at home, a Ryobi, the max level 11,000 RPMs and I know that's way too fast I also have a DeWalt corded drill that maxed out at 2500 RPMs. It's one of those better than the other and will the 2500 RPM drill be sufficient? Look forward to your response thanks man

You need to make another video without lifting the truck up. Lots of guys can’t do that and wants to see how a pro would do it. But as always, awesome work 🤙🏽

Same! I bought a 20 ton low pro bottle Jack from harbor freight and a block of oak for a base (for soft terrain jobs) call me spoiled but I do everything I can to spin that wheel. Quality first is my goal. 🤙 good luck and shine on!

@@summershine_7702 I totally agree on the bottle Jack and wood as well. I've got crossfires on each drive and I hate messing with those.

Nice work. I got some chrome cleaner on Aluminum tank & wheels, now left with drip streaks. Best way to make it look better. I don’t have a lot of time in a day to work it out. Is there a neutral chem I can use to make it look how it should?
@EvanStegerMetalPolishing

Hand polish or recut and color is only option. No amount of cleaner will fix chemical burn. Sorry

Once you begin polishing an alluminum high polish alcoa. How often will they need to be done thereafter? I noticed you use an airway buff pads what rogue and color pad do you recommend if I have a new truck? Also what is the locking nut that you use for your buffer to attach pad with? Is it just standard nut that comes with Dewalt rotary buffer?
@EvanStegerMetalPolishing
@EvanStegerMetalPolishing 2 жыл бұрын
I have slim of those answered in videos here on my channel. But polishing depends on what you drive in and how well you maintain between polishes. 90 percent of the trucks I polish with orange buff and brown rouge followed by yellow buff and green rouge. I use custom built safety flanges to attach my buffs to the grinder. We sell all of this on goshineon.com

Howdy Evan, CJ here from H-Town Texas. I am looking to get a side hustle going. My best friend and his Wifey do this for a living. They make a decent living. How much do you charge for each wheel? Would I be able to use cordless tool and if so, how many batteries would I need to swap out in order to do truck and trailer wheels? I would like to be able to go to customer if power was an issue and or driver is waiting to get loaded. Thanks great video, love the mid west accent..Don cha knoow..😆🥰

Hey Evan, enjoy watching your videos, super helpful and learn a lot. Could you make a video or give advice on how to safely jack up a truck to do what you’re doing in this video? I am looking to buy your polishing kit for the 4 fire trucks in my firehouse. We have bottle jacks available all the way up to 40 ton. Thanks again!

After you polish wheels. are you supposed to use some kind of sealant to protect the polish. Asking because a friend of mine says there is such a thing but I’m not sure Because I’ve never seen any truck polisher use one afterward.

Most polishing compounds have a ton of wax and sealant in it. After I color it I don't touch it with anything.
