Being the mother of a dancer and the fact she looked at her teacher for approval immediately after, I honestly think she was doing it to prove to herself & him that she could do it. Nothing is more important to a dancers heart (and self esteem) than pushing themselves to do something they thought they could never accomplish and not only doing it, but having the approval of your instructor. The money was an afterthought, if any thought at all.
