I think Controller gets a "bad rap" as an input compared to MNK, when in fact the Roller is inherently a superior input when it comes smoothness: - With a mouse you move your hand in sync with the cursor, so any jittering in your hand will translate as well. - On the Roller holding a stick at an angle will make the cursor move smoothly at a certain speed. Aim-assist therefore kinda misses the mark since it mostly makes it even easier to be smooth - which already is an inherent strength of the sticks. It would make much more sense to focus on leveling the playing field regarding flicks and wide movements - which is were MNK truly excels at. I've heard good things about gyro aiming in that regard.
@RiddBTW2 жыл бұрын
that's actually a really good point, maybe some kind of very temporary soft lock that quickly dissipates? so it would help you snap for a shot but wouldn't help with long strafing. but reactive tracking would still be a huge issue which is where aim assist tends to help the most
@corusal2 жыл бұрын
@@RiddBTW Yeah a temporary lock could definitely be a nice solution. Regarding reactive tracking; Correct me if I'm wrong, but the "flicking" involved in reactive tracking is mostly micro-flicks - so the reduced range of motion of the sticks shouldn't be too much of an issue? I do hope that gyro aiming becomes the standard for Roller though, that alone should level the playing field between the inputs quite a bit.
@RiddBTW2 жыл бұрын
@@corusal we'll talk about it in the reactive tracking but essentially when strafing and changing directions there's a deceleration period where (as a human) you have to read and smoothly prep to react to change in direction, and there's 150-250ms in delay when this happens due to visual reaction time (VRT). aim assist has zero delay in this process so it'll always be a superior method for close range tracking unless artificial delay is introduced
@corusal2 жыл бұрын
@@RiddBTW right, makes sense. Do you think that reacting on the controller (without aim assist) is harder compared to mnk? To me it seems like it shouldn't be much of an issue, since the motion is usually rather small.

@RiddBTW2 жыл бұрын
It's a good question, and I think the answer is YES but for a lot of factors it won't happen for most. One being, commitment and drive to obtain the skill which is directly tied to how much your brain will change (plasticity) in order to establish the correct patterns. Another being how they set up the environmental and biochemical conditions to increase rate of learning, or create a learning environment at all. Most people by default will just kinda run drills, treating it like exercise, when plasticity does not work that way.

I want to hear your opinion on mouse pads and mouse feet. Do you think it's better to have a extreme glide like those with glass skates and a hard pad? Or is it better to have more control with a cloth pad and normal ptfe feet? I'm currently running the Razer Strider pad with a GPX super light with corepads feet, but I'm wondering if I could benefit with more speed/glide.
@RiddBTW2 жыл бұрын
so it's a good question, i am not really the "peripherals" guy but i will say this: my experience with equipment in general is they are largely preference. if the equipment has good build quality the differences will be more context-specific, what types of things you like (i.e. mouse shape, how smooth or grippy a mouse is) and what your playstyle is like. So ultimately if you are able to, it's better to just try more things and see what works best for you vs. trying to find objectively better things. Like with tennis - some players are big baseline hitters with a ton of topspin so they need really tightly strung rackets. Some might have a more control oriented playstyle and benefit from a more loose string. Neither playstyle is better. It's just how they've developed their own style. I would say that in general aimers are leaning toward faster, lighter equipment across the board, largely because they spend so much time developing their mouse control. But if you're more comfortable on a control-oriented pad, you should go with that.

@@RiddBTW got it thank you. Another question, how often do you think we should be changing our sensitivity throughout our training? Should it be after every playlist? Or scenario? Or until we are comfortable with that sens?

For those using KovaaK's: A helpful setting I found is changing the target color when the crosshair makes contact. Personally, I made my targets glow, as though I'm turning on a lightbulb. It's helped with understanding when I'm doing well, and I think it improved my scores too.

As usual great tips, I recommend checking out 3D Aim Trainer's academy overhaul, the parts that are done (flicking, clicking and tracking) are quite nice. Adding some interesting training modes, spawn mechanics and scoring systems. They also emphasize switching between hipfire and ADS making me realize that I lose a lot of damage uptime between switching view. Anyway just a tip, keep up the great content. I'm fan!

Ive been haveing this feeling that im over aim training. I typically do almost 45min before I start gaming. While gaming I work on what I've trained for about an average of 5 hour while Im streaming. Then I close off with another 30mins to an hour of training, depending on how im feeling. I started off improving by a lot but now its kinda platued. Is this an affect of over aim training?
@aedenful62002 жыл бұрын
Also thanks for another amazing and informative video!
@RiddBTW2 жыл бұрын
Could be a lot of things, it's pretty typical to experience a slowdown in improvement. The general advice based on my research is to do an intense learning bout per day, ideally when you are most focused, for up to 90m including warmup and cooldown. But anytime you have here is meaningful. Then take a brief rest where you do nothing before jumping into another task. Meditate if that's your thing, for 5-10 minutes. If you want to aim train again after gaming then I would highly suggest taking a fairly long rest, if you are intensely focusing during the gaming session it's unlikely you can devote intensity toward aim training again. Most people can only do 2-3 learning bouts per day.

For the popcorn vs pasu question, aren’t they vertical sniping in games is mostly horizontal. Also you talked about static after a while being diminished returns, when do these occur? I was under the impression static is good to be great at since I’m game like valor at you move mouse fast for a kill; in kovaaks you move slow for acc scoring. When you are extremely fast at static you can better apply that to your game, no? For the target switching question about slow flick vs fast, I think they meant that they wanted to is to use static technique or just flick fast.
@RiddBTW2 жыл бұрын
pasu is absolutely omnidirectional and has bots that require precise adjustments, mouse control, and fingertip aim aside from just robust fast flicks. popcorn is more vertical but it's more about first shot accuracy which is paramount for high risk/reward guns (i.e. a sniper). static diminishing returns occur when your flick speed and accuracy can keep up with your crosshair placement. getting toward frame perfect flicks is far less meaningful than being able to accurately hit your shots when you are aware of enemy presence and preaiming. yes, it's better to be faster generically but i just don't believe it's linear. it's like in tennis if you're able to consistently get 120 mph serves, you'll be able to compete at the highest level no issue. if you can hit 135+ mph serves, sure that's awesome but it's not needed to compete.

you're not going to like the answer but the science is pretty clear in motor development that focusing on outcomes (i.e. performing the technique in a way that results in positive effects like higher scores) versus external factors like how you're holding something is superior. how YOU specifically perform the movement is going to depend on a lot of different factors. like when i do long tracking scens i barely move my wrist and use most of my arm, but someone else might plant their wrist and mostly use their wrist to aim. neither is objectively better
