I've never played EVE before, but have read about it when stuff happens that makes the news rounds. I love history, and after cramming all these Fanfest videos I have become obsessed. Andrew Grown is a fantastic speaker, speaking about something he is incredibly passionate about, to a group of people who share his passion at the highest level. I cannot wait to get the books!

I need this in my life. The audiobook was soo good. I want to buy the hardcover now just so I can see the maps and pictures and have an Eve book on my shelf.

"EVE is not real but it's something that's still significant to the people that are there." So EVE is a religion. Actually, that sounds about right.

I like how he casually mentions how you cannot really tell a fun story about the game anymore post 2010. And I can't disagree. I mean, memes and image macros and being 200% sarcastic of EVERYTHING that happens can be fun, sure, but kids tend to take it too far, meaning we end up with what we have today.

I find all this fascinating, but maybe not quite as novel as the speaker claims. Anyone who was in a casual MMORPG guild war can relate to the grandiose politics or intimate relationships formed in video games.

Eve has scarcity - resources matter a lot more than any other MMORPG. When the stakes are set higher, the actions become more complicated and the drama more spicy.
@Lotus_Lenex2 жыл бұрын
@@brainletmong6302 I've never played so of course no expert, but I would argue many mmorpgs manufacture scarcity. Any "full loot" rpg accomplishes the "real consequences" aspect, though I would agree Eve seems to be on a higher level. The persistent world and no servers is what I think truly separates Eve, though. The politics are so unified and so pervasive, because every player shares the same world/community.

Can I enjoy this from the outskirts? I definitely won't be able to play it much nor pay a subscription but can I still witness some of this if I play casually?
@balanceofjudgement42825 жыл бұрын
Eve is a big picture made out of smaller pictures...which are made out of micro pictures. You would be surprised how "small" people from the outskirts can end up influencing entire groups or change the map. I advise you to try it. Either casually or more than that.

Eve will be the model for making the Earth decentralized and organized. I listen to these videos, and I am amazed. Amazed at the complexity of the stories. And the thing is, real people are the players in these stories. Fucking amazing.

You should record the wars and politics and back stabbing in black desert. Back when there were different servers and then the merge into one server.
