As someone who enjoys courier work, 110-125% is standard collateral, the bare minimum per jump I'm generally looking for is 750k, don't double wrap it (contact it then contract it again) or ship expanded containers because you're risking my life since gankers see "loot boxes" and I can't see you've done it until I've accepted it. I'll generally ignore you after the contract.

@@strange_Net just trying to help good information for others who are looking to user the courier services that all of use free lancers offer, the in game "Haulers Channel" is also a good tool to learn from other haulers as well as possibly get your contract at the top of the list

Which is why as a shipper I always include “containers” in my description if the shipment has containers. I usually have to pay a bit more when I have to do this. I want my stuff delivered not my hauler blown up.

Hey hey, something a little different . With a good number of newer players subbed seemed like a good idea to get this out. Freighters are often the first capital new players get into. Hope you enjoy let me know if youve ever been ganked in HiSec in a hauler or a freighter.

the problem with courier is that they ll not deliver cargo to your station or Corp station. That's why I use courier to deliver my cargo to a nearby npc station and use my freighter to complete the trip to my restricted access raitaru.

Think the best way to think about getting one is to not to. Do the things you want to do in Eve and eventually when you start noticing spending too much time moving stuff around in a small hauler, THEN think about how much value you get from the reduced trips

I personally use my freighter to move my bulk ores to where I can refine them for free, and found that it takes about 1/10 as long as doing the normal move with a Gallente T1 ore ship.

Having a freighter is like having a truck, Eve needs a bumper sticker for them that reads, "Yes, this is my freighter, and NO I won't help you move". They are handy, but unless you are setting up freight contracts, most the time they sit in your hanger collecting space dust. My advice get a Bowhead first, set contracts to move fitted ships. Just make sure your collateral price is equal to, or greater than the price of that item, fit and all, and for the love of the gods have it insured to max, on either one when moving items.

Oh, charge a mill a jump. I use a Deep Space Transport, or a Blockade Runner. Most times building make T4 P.I. products or T2 or T3 ship parts. You will make better isk for less mass. A Blockade Runner does just fine, a bit over 9k m3 with a 4sec warp time.

Currently using my Orca to do ore runs, its becoming a pain due to the volumes so thinking about a freighter. Not so sure now after watching this however I still like doing runs myself. Great video, enjoy it and subscribed. Also joined your Eve channel

Good info! When I played, I enjoyed hauling w/ some of the big hauling corporations and/or for myself or my buddy's little corp. There is a convenience factor to having your own freighter and using it to gather up materials for production and taking product to market vs. waiting on someone to pickup your contract or those times you decide to re-home to a new system. I always flew with a webber and depending on the route a scout ahead to look at trouble systems. They aren't for everyone and as you pointed out, they take isk that could probably better employed elsewhere.

A very informative video. I have thought many times if I should get a freighter, but since I am not doing that much manufacturing it seems I can use a courier service many times before that is even viable. Only one suggestion, and that is to show your mouse. It can be hard to see what you are clicking on when the mouse isn't shown.

Its handy to have your own but if your stretching to buy it and if loosing it is going to wreck you then do without, if not buy as its the convenience at the end of the day it brings.

I appreciate it adds to the expense of buying and using a freighter but the first thing I did - as I use a Providence - was to buy a full set of medium-grade Amulet implants. This costs at least another billion but gives me a massive increase in tanking ability. Also, I never fit for speed, just re-enforced bulkheads. A freighter is always going to be slow so just grin and bear it, fitting for align time or similar is just not worth it. Of course there are Nirvana implants for freighters with higher shield than armor. You just have to remember to be in the right clone and use any appropriate free boosters that are being given away daily by CCP.

Hi Strange, just subscribed- bought my second freighter a week ago when I started needing to transport Capital components. I am already finding it extra handy to purchase large amounts of base minerals as I build as many ships as I can handle (cash flow is my current bete noire) up to Orca so far...... in game name: gobergin

Hey man, yea capital production is mad for space and yea id recommend a freighter no questions. If you can afford to produce caps then you can afford to lose a freighter ;-)

@@strange_Net So far I have only made a couple Orcas and am scraping the barrel for cash until I make it past the initial investment caps. Once I have a more fully researched BPO for the Orca and a couple more ship flips under my belt I'll start taking off into other areas and BPs. My goal is to make at least one of every ship in the game just for personal goals... I am certainly thinking long range :). I certainly will be looking into your BPO/BPC research gamut though.... added a new wrinkle to my agenda

Thanks for the video. It’s a very good discussion. I agree that for most players having a freighter just not worth the isk and the time. The cost of the contract is usually much less than the risk of getting genked, even in HS. I’m just adding the cost of shipping to my profit calculation and make it part of my regular expenses. Am just ganked in a tyara moving a Gila and some modules worth 700 mil because i was lazy and thought i was to little of a target.... Now i use only tanky Orca ( no more than 300 mil in cargo hold) to market and moving stuff. For the real expensive stuff i use a instawarp destroyer.

Unfortunately freighters prices are rising to 4 bil now. I would afford it on March/April easily, but 400% price increase since that time is something that makes hauling simply unbearable for me. If only I belonged to 0.1% of the richest players. Propably only they are not scared of hauling using freighters that cost more than dreadnoughts novadays. I would have to use them for many months in order to simply pay off the cost and possibility of being ganked every time no matter the fit makes it one of the worst activities in terms of risk vs reward in my view.

In Eve stuff does not depreciate nor become obsolete, you buy that freighter today, you use it for a couple of years and you can probably resell it for roughly the same amount of isks or even make a nice profit. The money you spent on courier contracts is gone and cannot be recovered. Buying a freighter is an investment into an asset, a very valuable asset, courier expenses are just costs.
