I played for a month as an alpha before upgrading to omega. It took me awhile to figure out the game, including 3 character remakes, set up a UI, and learn some of the basics of navigation and missions. Once I realized how skills worked, and that omega trained at double speed of alpha, I pulled out the credit card. That's the most important advantage of omega. The best advice I can offer is to look for the quarterly 50% off omega+MCT, or the sales on omega time, and make long duration purchases. I'm good until 2024. - Zake Katzchen aka Thaane Cawdor

I think Eve has been very fair with the limitations on alphas, especially considering you can use in-game money to upgrade to omega. I think anyone really enjoying the game as an alpha will eventually upgrade to omega, and many omega players can have a lot of fun starting an alpha account. IGN: Jae Ablem

IGN : Renfield E'Drien The main reason I see as justification for Omega status is investment into the Eve Universe which over the years has become almost an extra part of life. Its like being a dual personality with a separate World to enter and experience, away from the cares of the more mundane World. lol.

o/ dad dex I would always recommend people learn the games fundamentals first within the alpha limit before you omega any account, as you grow into the game you will eventually find a point where omega might be necessary and will unlock a better ships for their desired activity. I run a 'few' omega accounts as its to support the gameplay I am into, but you can unlock so much of eve with a basic account and that is what makes the game great. Gas huffing, DED farming & missions are great income for the experienced player and can really make your billions very easily within the constraints of the 5mil SP limit, try and train basic magic 14 skills and find a ship you want to skill the most and focus on that. (remember to always ask for a buddy link when creating a character for the free 1 million SP sign up) awesome video as always mate....ill see you around :) IGN: Carnage Steezy

Nice to have you back. My main is a 140M+sp solo player who is over 17 years old. I can fly every ship up to Dreads and have done just about all there is to do in the game all with one character. Then I created my first Alpha ("niece") who is only about a year old. I've found it fun, as I've been able to "start over", now knowing how to prioritize my skill tree with different focii (geared to be a PVPr). I've put her in a corp with me, and I have more than enough ISK to fund her various adventures while she builds her own wealth and rep. It's a nice way to refresh one's enjoyment of the game. Thanks for your great vids. IGN: Tale Tanxury.

Agreed! On the nose once again with this one, Mark, cheers. I wish I had come upon this channel at the start of my eve experience. It was a small number of months playing as an alpha before caving into upgrading to omega. At which point I found myself overwhelmed by the amount of options to train into. But cloaking was most definitely a game changer. The alpha state at present is pretty good overall, but extremely challenging when it comes to events. You are more likely to complete them via the data hacking/exploration route than combat. I hope this means you might throw in some omega focused content every now and again. IGN: Talbot Shepherd

More skills for the fun(nier) ships, trading and industry. Be able to run L4 missions, and the empires Epic Arcs. I recently dropped the "data" out of my phone plan, and with the savings I decided to subbed 2 of my alpha accounts. There is some multiboxing in the horizon. Some of the first Omega skills I prioritized in their skill queue are Cybernetics, Cloaking, all the capacitor related skills (including the afterburner and fuel conservtion you mentionned), assault frigate (and Caldari frigate 5), and some of the social skills for missions. I'll try that for a while and decide if I extend their Omega for a longer period. IGN: Suki Vokkonen (previously my "combat alpha", now Omega :)

I love this video, totally agree about not flying an Astero until you can put a cov ops on it. I didn't allow myself to even think of flying one until I went omega, and I do tons of exploring so it was tempting to risk it. Really loving being a free to play omega character right now, that might change later when I have to go buy another boatload of plex but I've got a couple months before that happens. Glad to see you back in the game, mate. Even happier that your health is behaving itself ;) I was never in favour of Alpha Chars, to begin with. I seem to remember that ganking corps grew exponentially with the appearance of Alphas. I know many people, such as yourself, and even me used Alphas as a way to get around the lack of interest which comes with Eve Online's "end game" (or the lack of content by CCP for it). Maybe have it for a few months every year, yeah the old experimental accounts were much better. However, you did inspire me to get Alpha accounts, and I never had so much fun in EVE, due to the limitations and always having to be on my tows. Anyway, glad to see you back, you are my favourite EVE content creator. As for me, I am taking a very long hiatus from the game and finding it very hard to even bring myself to log on every day. A fabulous 2023 to you, your son (also a EVER, I believe), and all your loved ones. Best wishes on your new job, Cheers. PS: IGN: Ferdinand Wolfe

I have gone Omega from day 1 so I could not judge on whether the barriers are in a good place for skills and thus ships. But defenitely the cloak is a good reason to go Omega. The skill acquiring speed difference might be something that I would do away with if I were EVE. The 5 mil learning cap before the skill queue stops is enough. IGN: Mirthaner Visteen

My main reason for playing as F2P Omega is Ship Access. Not to say you can't have some good fun as an Alpha, but best memories definitely come from flying a tech2 Hull. Not to mention, it's actually much easier to plex your account with Omega benefits... 2x Skill training is nice too, but once you get past your first few lvl5 skills - you stop seeing much value in it by itself. As for cloaking... this is where people tend to disagree with me. It is useful, especially CovOps, but other than Null Groups previously exploiting cloaky Alphas, I wouldn't make it such a priority. With safe flying and sound fits, you can get around even null safely enough even without one. Even better - you get an extra high-slot/CPU for extra PVP oompf when things do go south. It's actually not funny, just how much more effective a Dictor without a cloak is, when compared to the cloak meta fits. Similarly, a t3c/astero/stratios without a cloak can become a rather nasty surprise... although to a lesser extent. The industry part, however, is just HUGE. Honestly, people who do Indy in Alphas are just... doing it wrong. They'd get much more industry done by doing combat/exploration PVE instead, plexing their account, then going back to Indy after getting enough related skills. Alpha mining is just a trap in my eyes, and I seriously advise any and all new players to steer clear of it. That said, Omega indy can become the most profitable profession in Eve, if done right. Only you'll get there faster through other activities, than just stubbornly refusing to leave your mining barge. All in all - Omega is still just too good to pass up on, especially after you've gotten the taste of it. Whether that validates pulling out your bank card, well... That depends on each individuals personal beliefs/preferences. I wouldn't rush to get Omega from day one either way. There are just way too many good lessons you first need to learn as an Alpha, else you're just going to waste your first months of Omega time anyway. And one of the best teachers is actually exploration. Grab a dirt cheap t1 scanner, and go on adventures. You'll lose tens of those, learn invaluable survival lessons (unless you're too lazy to use Aunt Google), and will make some nice money. Another thing before you go Omega - learn combat. Even PVE lessons, if learned right, will get you a long way. And PVP ones - well, those may very well become the thing that saves your blinged out Omega ship later on in your career. Getting Omega just to see your brand new shiny ship explode is an old story. Get some actual piloting skills along with it to avoid unnecessary frustration. Lastly - Alpha or Omega - don't be too risk averse. Plenty of people sitting in High-sec space, too afraid to venture anywhere else, oblivious to the fact that it's actually where nearly all of the Gankers/Griefers hunt. The EVE universe is huge, and filled with opportunity - at least for those prepared to lose their ships. ;)

I was going to say auto-targeted missiles are one thing that I love as an omega, that goes along with premise that they don't want alphas to do AFK activities. I started playing before Alpha was an option. I've created alpha characters to try out the new Faction Warfare system until CCP implements playing from your existing corp. I've been playing for about a year, ~7mil SP, and have made a few billion in Highsec, mostly through 3/10 sites, SOe missions and Trig hunting. I've tried Gila's, RNI's and now messing with a Stratios since the gank restrictions and now I'm looking at dipping into either low or null. I'm considering Omega, the free week in November was a good taste of what it can give, the cloak on it's own may be the last push I need, micro jump drives earn an honourable mention. I've done a little in low, lost my first Gila there to an Ishtar, after about 3 months of game time but have a much better grasp of the basics now. Do you have any recommendations for a newbie low/null corp? Kheops Verin
@daddex9222
@daddex9222 Жыл бұрын
My advice to learning to play in the more dangerous places is not to take your best ships. A Gila in Low sec will get the locals chatting and making and effort to catch you, but if you run that 3/10 in a destroyer while you learn the low sec ropes no will will make much effort to find you. At the end of the day tougher ships just take long to burn down. It is big loses early on that put people off low sec etc, my Alpha billions in LS/WH were made in Herons, Ventures and Cormorants.... losses are rare :) o7. where about does your corp hang out, i may have alts local to maybe hangout? Mail ThinTrash in game :)

The overview is good. What may have been left out of the Drake comparison are the support skills. Not only does the EHP and DPS differ from alpha to omega, also the application of DPS and evasion of damage hit are affected as a result of speed and manoeuvring. While the grind for Omega isn't my intention, I'm occasionally making sufficient ISk to PLEX my account every so often. IGN : Dianera Dragosha

I played for a little more than a year before taking the plunge with my wallet. I feel the devide for Alpha and Omega is fair. I have an Omega and an Alpha on different accounts and don't mind what I don't have on the Alpha because like you said. I can swap over if I need to. There has to be a reason to pay to keep the game alive and the higher levels of skills, faster train time, and ocean full of extra ships is it for me. Great vid as always. I'm a fan of two things in Eve -- cloaks and industry. I need Omega for both so that's been my drive to support two Omega accounts, with the second enjoying the linked-account discount. I then link my two passions by sourcing mats for, and building T3Cs, and SoE cloaky things. On which note, my Astero currently sports 32 killmarks and a rather boring deathglow hunters SKIN. @@daddex9222 my story! 4 of us joined EVE last September, I am the only one still playing. We were all NEW players to EVE not just new characters an important difference! New players struggle to survive, very limited SP no money, try and make ISK when you keep getting killed! You cannot survive against players with billions of ISK and high SP plus experience I have lost 5 ships which I could hardly replace. The others gave up! My point is NEW players buy stuff in the EVE store and pay to go Omega. Experienced players have no need to spend any real money at all!! I have only got this far because of the time I have spent mining and watching KZbin, your channel and Aceface are the only reason I survive in Eve having learnt so much from you both. And no doubt a bit of luck and good fortune! I went Omega for the reasons you point out in this video , I don’t do PvP or PvE I just wouldn’t survive and you can get through ISK really quickly, ISK you don’t have! But don’t get me wrong I don’t mind paying real money as I enjoy the different aspects of the game. Maybe one day I’ll have the skills and iSK to fight and loose. Thank you again for making the time to help newbies and those trying hard to improve the game. IZIUM

IMHO there is nothing bad with plexing accounts. This PLEXes don't come out of thin air, someone bought them for real money and sells to get ISK. It's a good way for players who have thikk wallets in RL and don't want to grind in the game. Like hardcore PVP players for example. And a good way for other player with thin RL wallets but plethora of free time to grind ISK to get Omega acc. And for CCP itself who gets subscription money anyways but doesn't need to bother about shady schemes of players trading ISK for RL money. Everyone are getting what they want and are happy in the end. :) Brilliant idea to keep monetization mild.
