Long time back in the early days, a friend of mine was playing, he kept docking and in the end I asked why, he docked to swap crystals, he was shocked when I told him you could do that anytime, no docking required, he lost that ship when he shot my drone, said it was hard to lock up.

Joining a corp with some players who have played for a while is a great suggestion. Unfortunately, when I started back in 2004 I was ultra-paranoid and it was only when I caved and started talking to other capsuleers that I started learning the ropes. Now we have access to so many good introductions to Eve (such as yours) that nobody has any excuse. Even as a vet I find these videos very inspiring and spend as much time watching them as I do playing the game. Great introduction, I enjoyed that immensely and thank you.

I left the game after a few months because I joined a corp. It felt like a dead-end job and I had sacrificed a lot just to reach the citadel that would hold my cubicle with my company-provided single-room apartment and company-provided parking spot. It felt like a trap, it was a trap, and so after losing the upteenth time against a single nullsec belt rat with my company-provided frigate ship and schematic I tossed myself into the recycler. Perhaps there are good corps out there, but the main takeaway from my experience is you need a friend to hook you up, who already went through the hoops and knows someplace where you're allowed to play the game as more than a mere automaton, and I have and had none of the such.

@@sureno1833 It's not even Pay to Play - hasn't been for over 6y now?.. You don't need lvl5 skills nor Omega to kill people in a t1 frigate. It's only industry that greatly benefits from Omega - but honestly, there are so many industrialists that the markets have been oversaturated for years... Although finding the niches that aren't can be rather profitable even for a newer industrialist brave enough to exploit them. As for advice towards newer players - I've always advised AGAINST rushing into bigger hulls or higher skills. Costs and time aside, it will simply make them lose out on valuable lessons about the game learned along the way. Get familiar with what you have, learn the basics - and then once you actually upgrade your skills/hull/fit, you'll have a much better appreciation of those tiny benefits each small thing gives. Frigates might be difficult beasts to tame, given how quickly the fights are over, but they are the single best hulls in which to learn the game. My biggest regret upon starting the game - buying omega for 2 months after just 2 weeks as alpha. 2 months as alpha and mere 2 weeks as Omega would've been a much better plan instead. But well, you know what they say about hindsight.... Then again, rushing Ishtar was far from the worst decision I could've made. Lesson learned, it's only end of last year that I finally climbed into my first marauder. Smaller hulls were just so much more versatile and useful to train...

@@mikspurins1455 I dare you to kill t1 hauler with t1 frigate, while running alpha clone with skills of a new player( less then 2mil SP). A) in high sec( possibly even low, not sure) you CANT kill anyone if you are not Omega( no red for alpha). So you have to go into low sec/null. B) I dare you to go into null sec with t1 frigate and live long enough to A-actually kill someone OR B-not to become meat for 10 plus years old griefers and "PVP" players. Basically you are dreaming of some other game/ eve that never existed.
@mikspurins1455

@@sureno1833 Alpha limitation in Ganking aside (arguably a very good change by CCP) - you can do even better than a t1 hauler with Alpha fit Frigates. Try Arty/Rail cruisers for a size - they go down surprisingly easy. A frigate with enough neuting power can even solo HACs/T3Cs, or pretty much anything with buffer fit given enough DPS... As for the rest... A) There are ways to get past non-red limitation in HiSec - namely suspect baiting. An avenue where flying undersized ships is preferable already, due to them being easier to actually get fights with. Harder to fit to deal with bigger ships as an alpha, sure, but nowhere near impossible. Granted, no crab worth their salt will ever engage you, so you can forget about killing those carebears... Which is why Wardecks, the other way to fight in HiSec, doesn't make my list - potential targets simply never undock... B) Frigates are actually much more survivable in Null than you think - align times unsurprisingly matter a lot. And, while they are equally susceptible to bubbles, if a blob catches you, you're dead in any ship, no matter how old the blob toons are. Actually catching a frigate, however, is much harder than anything bigger... Granted, a single RLML boat can ruin your roam, and there are plenty of those out there, but the rare gunship trying to catch you could easily fall victim instead. You could further improve your odds by roaming in a small gang, although I find it much easier to actually find fights Solo, as people are less careful before engaging. How many preferable fights you get solo is another discussion entirely though... All of your opinions appear to be of someone who either hasn't ever lived in Null, or hasn't even ventured out looking for anything other than hacking sites. Because you clearly underestimate the ability of an Astero to deal with Dictors - having no cloak as an alpha can actually become preferable in combat. Battle Herons and Ventures (Slippery buggers) have also become quite notorious for a good reason... Once again - F2P or P2P doesn't matter - the biggest obstacle in Eve is the learning curve. Once you actually know enough about the game, a fresh Alpha Toon can be as deadly as veteran accounts. Heck, way back when, our corp formed a small gang with couple day old alpha toons for a roam. We got this: zkillboard.com/kill/88240810/ So yes - SP and Bling doesn't matter, if you know what you're doing. Although I wont deny that having a few good friends can help immensely.
@mikspurins1455
@mikspurins1455 Жыл бұрын
The one benefit of actually choosing a certain faction to start with is - you get some small skills into the factions ships and weapons. Hardly anything worth much training time, or ISK in skill books, but if you're convinced you know what you want (or just follow the advice of a friend that plays), you can become bit more efficient at flying that faction's ships a tiny bit sooner. Early on you'll also want to stick to the faction you've chosen, simply to maximize your SP gains. Actually cross-training to access other factions or pirate ships will seem that much easier. Especially if you've already done at least some engineering skills. Also - probably don't want to train anything to lvl5 without a good solid reason. The same training time could be used to get multiple skills to lvl3, which in many cases will give you much better efficiency. The exceptions would be aforementioned 'magic 14' or skills unlocking t2 hulls/modules. But even then - you're probably better off flying lvl4 skills for a while, to actually appreciate the difference those give.

When i started alot of ppl said that it dosent matter what faction u start as becouse u can always get any skill and while that is absolutly true, now when i have played it for a couple of months i would strongly disagree and say that your starting faction has a very big impact on your Eve career. When u start a faction u are VERY likly going to heavily skill into that factions ships and weapon system from the start and atleast when i looked it up alot of ppl recommended Gallente becouse of its heavy use of drones. Drones are very good and most pilots will eventually skill into drone usage but some of Gallentes more iconic ships are very heavy drone boats and over time that playstyle becomes very boring. Absolutly there are ships that use hybrid turrets and not drones but those turrets are dmg locked to Thermal and Kinetic making it impossable for u to change the type of dmg they do if an activity u do that day is better suited for another dmg type. Gallentes main draw are those drones and u can change there dmg type based on what factions drones u use but u have to skill into that specific factions drones so when new players pick there starting faction i would recommend new players to take a very good look at the weapon system u would mainly like to use. Ofc u can skill into anything if u wanna swap but the faction u start with is very likly gonna be the 1 thing u heavily skill into from the beginning.

Amarr- God said i am better then you so stop fighting back. 4. Minmatar- Just wait until i find something heavy so i can hit you over the head with it. Been playing since 2008 and can attest to the accuracy of these. :)

Before the current system of picking your appearance, you could pick various traits, which meant your skills could be vastly different, if you picked the right selection you could end up with small weapons level 5, ready to train tech 2 weapons, or with some work you could end up with the 'Black Market skill' cannot remember what level you got, now I think completely removed, seem to think there was a route to getting something in the drugs line which helped to make drugs and booster production or use a bit quicker, but it was a long time back.

I would reccomend picking whichever empire has the character model options you think look best. My capsuleer is a Gallante Jin Mei, I was going for the hot asian businesswoman look. Also Gallante capsuleers start with a level or two more in drone skills, in exchange for less in Missiles if I recall. Drones may be a bit annoying to use at first, but once you get used to them they are among the most useful weapons for so many purposes. they can even help you mine!

Personally, I know you say that the Minmatar ships are the hardest for new people to fly, but as long as a player understands the basics of speed/sig tanking, they're not too difficult. Gallente ships, meanwhile, demands a much more skilled pilot solely because their ships are designed around getting in knife fighting range and jamming antimatter down the opponent's throat. Range control is king, and no ships demands more from the player in this regard than the green machines. They highly reward a player for getting in their optimal range of their target, but armor ships aren't known for being able to do that easily.

One word about Gallente though... Drones :P Blasters are really situational and honestly Caldari do railguns better, but the best Gallente ships are the drone boats, and nothing is easier to manage than a swarm of drones imo, but then again I'm lazy and love massive dps at any range without having to much too much.

I'm guessing that to own a Stratos you don't need to be a SoE member and/or Pirate, but either an Amarr or Gallente (I'd chose being Gallente)? Though, from what I've seen, no one can avoid being pulled into a PvE, PvP fight or an all out war (no simple hauler). ;-)
@emPtysp4ce
@emPtysp4ce 9 ай бұрын
For a Stratios, you need to train the skills Amarr Cruiser and Gallente Cruiser to at least 2 each. It doesn't require your character to be created as an Amarrian or Gallentean, nor do you need to be a member of either empire. That said, SoE ships tend to be on the more expensive side, so by the time you get to the financial point where you can afford to lose one of these, you should hopefully understand how skills in the game works. And yeah, no one can avoid being pulled into PvP if someone really wants to come attack you. The undock button is the PvP button, so never fly what you can't afford to lose. Simple haulers exist, but they need to know how to be slippery and avoid getting caught.

The only real time sink in EVE is the steep learning curve, especially for PVP. Then again, there are plenty of occupations that don't require much learning at all. Moreover, with how much possible activities there are, everyone can find whatever fits their schedule to enjoy. Have at best 1h/d? That's still 3+ Abyss runs. Or a few missions. Or perhaps some combat sites + an escalation. Or maybe a short stint of Exploration... Although some risk averse people just use it to update their market orders/industry jobs... While bloodthirsty pilots will use that 1h to have multiple PVP fights in faction warfare. Granted, the more time you dedicate, the faster you'll learn the game's intricacies, and the more in-game money you'll make, but it is not a hard requirement. Plenty of people more than content with AFK mining in high-sec. Not something I'd advise as an in-game career for someone with limited time, but the option exists.

EVE is very casual friendly it just isn't very low effort friendly, those are two different things. Your skills train over time so it doesn't matter if you play 40 hours a week or just 2, it also means there is no powerlevel grind and there is no rush, you can do whatever you want without being forced into specific things. It also means you don't "fall behind" of friends who in other games would get ahead of you in levels to the point where you can't group up anymore. The other bit is that teaming up doesn't require you to be of the same "level" (not that there is such a thing) because even in massive high end pvp fleets they still need basic roles done a (relative) newbie can do as long as they put in a bit of brain effort and practise. So there's no need to rush meaning you can slow down, find your own (short term) goals and progress in your own direction at your own speed. Still, if you're gonna be dumb you gotta be tough: Mishaps hurt in EVE so it's best to think before you're doing.

Gonna second what the others said: the amount of time you put in highly depends on your playstyle. There are definitely ways to play the game that let you jump in whenever you like for an hour or two (e.g. exploration, abyssals, faction warfare PvP). But the game is also insanely complex and you're going to spend hours reading guides, watching KZbin tutorials and asking around just to wrap your head around it.

Do not play it. Simple as that. It is HUGE time waster. Plus, you need to actively PAY TO PLAY, 20 euros each month. Also, you will be able to do absolutely nothing for the first 2 years, and I do mean TWO YEARS of your life. In 2017 I made an account and make the skills go up, knowing that is complete truth. I made a mistake thinking I will do industry and mining- I fuked up big time. In 2021, when I come back to play the game for the first time, I enjoyed myself for a while. Then I realized that their "player driven economy" is pure lie. Anything you produce, you will sell for a HUGE loss of money. It is CHEAPER for you to buy thing you want, rather then produce it yourself. You wanna do pvp? Cool. Be prepared for hours and hours of mindless.....waiting while being 100% focused and ready to react. Imagine watching a movie and be ready to jump every time actor says some word. You do not know when he will say it, how loud, how fast...all you know- if you miss it you wont be able to jump- and you love jumping. It is mind numbing experience.

There's more in depth info that is kinda hard to know. I spent time in all 4 races. I have spent a lot of time using different weapons, and living in different space to try to understand what they are best at. They all have their place in the end, but for new players, each race has its benefits over another in terms of what you wish to start doing in Eve. Amarr lasers are cap hungry. If Security Missions are of your interest, they are the least effective. Most effective Mission Running would go to Gallente. Stay at a respectable range and your bigger guns can insta pop little things all the while having the DPS to handle everything. Missiles don't apply their DPS to ships that those missiles are designed for. So the diversity of ships you will encounter, missiles are kinda weak too. Drone Boats can be fun, but you have to micromanage them. Hybrids/Artillery guns are the best for Missions. But maybe industry is your thing. Amarr has way more 'empty space' to find yourself gathering industry materials with lesser competition. If your really up for that, Amarr Space is best. But if your into Marketing, then Jita is King. Caldari capsuleers will generally, if you work on your tax reduction strategy, will save the most in taxes then anyone else. Its a little bit, but over a life time surely adds up. Those most interested in becoming Space Rich might find the overall process easier when they are living in Caldari Space. But we all have alts so this might not matter so much in the long run. Socially, everyone's the same. We all have 'that guy' in our corp. We all have the same goals. Were just people playing Eve. BUT. Historically northern Null Alliances are more present in space between Jita and their Null Territories. The Faction War between Gallente and Caldari is much closer to the Major Markets and active Null Space. So if you want to be around more people most of the time, living in the 'North' might be your thing. People in the South have more space and tend to spend most of their time interacting with their corps/alliances and their respective enemies. Pirates exist everywhere, but there is more PVP opportunities in the North, so you will have more randoms living and moving about. People in the South generally get a better sense of who lives where. They know their neighbors better, friend or foes as their is less random traffic noise to contend with. Let me be clear though, whether your interested in big corps and positive social interactions with the many, like fleet operations, or taking on a more solo play, it really does not matter where you live. You can find both everywhere. But if PVP is more of your thing, live in the North. Last but not least is the color of space you live in. Frankly, do you really want to be looking at blood red all day? There might be a reason Minmatar is red, it eventually discourages people from living there. That makes that space sorta more remote. It really is the smallest empire by System count. So its relative. The golden space of Amarr might have you thinking of wealth, might have your brain a little more at ease shooting rocks all day. I don't know, just a theory, I don't mine in Amarr. Up north the Green and Blue backgrounds easier on the eyes. I personally find the green to be most enjoyable to see for extended periods of time. So I do like that I am of Gallente origins. I might be a bit biased because of that, but there are physiological effects when viewing colors, so take that into account. Gallente - Missions Caldary - Marketing Amarr - Industry Minmatar - I still don't know. lol

I have been playing Caldari for over 5 years now and i am still in love with this faction, only thing i really dislike about their ships is how the Raven looks like. My Air Conditioning looks better than that shit, it's as if the designers had enough when they were designing the Raven. I have seen a lot of remodeling of ships within the Caldari fleet, i hope one day they take a look at the Raven and make it into something more realistic and more modern. I also Fly their Freighter ''Charon'', that one has the most capacity so that's why. (We are Caldari, no matter the cost😎) I also love Amarr ships, love strong armor boats. I own their Marauder ''Paladin'' and that's one hell of a beasty. I call her ''Saint Nazaire'' I have played as Minmatar but that shit get's boring really fast, don't know why. Love their Hurricane by the way, it's a fast attack boat that can be used for PVP and PVE. Vast combat makes it less boring, it makes it feel like you are in a bomber making rounds of firing on your enemy. Lot's of movement in Combat with this faction. I have never flown Gallente, maybe one day i will. Always love to work with drones and their ships don't look that bad. I am currently in Gallente space for Mining, as soon as i am done with my current projects i will take a look at Gallente ships😋 TA: I am currently working on my Triglavian: Leshak for Lvl 4 missions, i want to know how effective it can be🤔

I haven't played EVE for over 5 years now but I couldn't disagree more, the old boxy nature of Caldari ships was part of their charm, they were plain and while they may have had some flair they looked utilitarian, they had the mix of cultural heritage mixed with soulless megacorp looking at the bottom line (do we really need paint?" They had a charm, now they just have some generic near future modern military vibe.

@RedcoatViking_Official Жыл бұрын
I think that's a pretty valid question to be honest :) I think all the factions are loosely based on real world politics, like the Amarrians having basically no seperation between church and state, while also covering their ships and themselves in gold and living in arid, desert-like enviroments (like the middle-east/northern africa/Ancient Egypt), while the Gallente have a lot in common with the French (including the fact that all auto-generated Gallente names sound very French), and the Caldari State being a more dystopian version of the US as we know it today. You can make pretty much all the factions look more African though too, not just with skin color but my sculpting the face itself in the character creator, but yeah I still think Minmatar do it best as they have a more natural look.
@roboparks
@roboparks Жыл бұрын
All the factions are skin color Diverse. Most Players choose to Create a black character as Minmatar . The Factions have more todo with types of governance. Armar Theocracy-Monarchy, Gallente Unitary- Democracy , Minmatar Federal-Republic , and Caldari Corporate-Faciset. Your assuming because of the Lore of slavery that Minmatar is black?? really?? That's really just your own perceptions and have obviously never played the game or have ever use the Character Creation tool?
@CloakyStargazer

@@RedcoatViking_Official I'd say it's the Gallente who are more similar to the US - lauding themselves as the land of freedom and democracy, but whenever someone undermines their interests (like the Caldari striving for independence), they turn into nationalist warmongers. The Caldari remind me more of China, South Korea and Japan - a more collectivist brand of corporate capitalism.

@@roboparks Well, the Minmatar are the only ones who have a default African model in the bloodline choice screen, so they have a point there: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rYbJfKFnqrdsfKM. Plus a lot of the promotional material also defaults to black Minmatar characters. I'm not opposed to fiction being directly inspired by real world history, but for a world thousands of years in the future in which humanity has scattered all over the place, it is a little weird. But we also know from real life that prejudices and racism can last for a LONG time.

I feel lore wise for roleplay choices the video is a bit incomplete. Amarr bad because slavery.. clear. caldari bad because authoritarian uber capitalist. so uhm. fascist.. clear. galliente. less bad because less authoritarian and more liberal even tho corporations still keep people poor. okay. check. Very like real life haha. But whats the deal with the minmatar? Why is anything wrong with them and why are they not considered the good guys? They seem like the only civilization without massive corporate influences. Nothing about them being authoritarian was mentioned either. So i'm puzzled. They seem like respectable nomads able to hold their own against the other faction without needing to make their people suffer through corporate greed. And they're not pirates or in low sec space so its not like its a lawless faction. From what i read on the eve wiki they were even more technological prosperous than the other factions before their enslavement so their model of living clearly cut out a lot of bureaucratic and profit seeking issues that makes development slow down. So whats their dark side?

I love when games quote "authoritarian capitalist megacorporations" because that just means socialist government, a capitalist society already forces some market freedom to exist in order to generate trust in the coin, different than socialist based economies that try to concentrate everything in the government making most of business state owned, besides the fact that corporations or business in general don't have control over the law, governments do, so in essence that kind of thing is just a logical impossibility, as a real example, blackrock rules over a great part of the world, but they themselves don't create laws or anything, they make people do it for them with money, if they can be bought. Sorry for this, i just think it is very ridiculous when they make this "big bad capitalist society" thing

That is simply false on oh so many points... 1) Ships like Sunesis, Gnosis and Praxis take literally zero skills to fly. And can be quite effective even without t2 Omega Modules. They have been a mainstay for Alphas ever since I started the game - back in 2017 as well... And, pushing the SoCT shipline aside when I first bought Omega - it only took a couple of months (after wasting some time on Ore Hulls) to skill into an Ishtar. So you couldn't be further away from the truth. You can, in fact, be quite efficient by rushing a t1 BC hull - even if for only a few uses of it. 2) The player driven economy is TRUE, and the main reason why Alphas will struggle to make money producing t1 items. Firstly - quite a bit of free stuff to be gotten from doing tutorial missions, which have driven prices of certain goods below production value. Secondly - the overcrowded HiSec fighting for marginal profits have driven down everything else easily accessible. You CAN still make money doing industry, however. But whether that's by simply selling raw ore instead of building BPOs, or researching and building profitable t2 BPCs - those are avenues that move constantly, profitable items sometimes changing almost daily. The second option will, however, require quite a bit more investment into skills and assets before bearing fruit, so it's a path I can't advise for a newer player. If you're determined and patient enough, High End industry can net you ridiculous profits. It's the only career in Eve that doesn't have a hard cap on how high it can scale... 3) While I agree that PVP can often be a hit or miss, it's nowhere near as mindless or reactive than you make it out to be. Most fights are won before they start, instead of you reacting in time to hit a button like in other games. Gate camping or Ganking does require a bit of that, but those are the least intensive forms of PVP to begin with. Hunting belters, or specifically aiming to kill gate campers in LowSec - both can be equally fun. You could also go out to Null with the specific aim to kill Dictors - and do so effectively with a T1 hauler of all things. (Heck, I got an Omen with that once...) Or perhaps go out hunting for Gilas or Ishtars... If NullSec mechanics aren't your jam, you can always join FW as well. Unless you're inside the winning/more numerous nation, or aren't playing at an odd TZ - there are plenty of fights to be had there on short order. I will concede that Eve can be quite the time sink - but it is NOT a hard requirement to play. 1h/d is enough to not only plex your account with Isk, but also have plenty of fun doing so... And the only reason why newer players would require more time for the same efficiency isn't so much the skills - it's the lack of knowledge about the game. Heck, you can make over 250mil/h with some luck without leaving HiSec - and that in a t1 fit Caracal...
@sureno1833
@sureno1833 Жыл бұрын
@@mikspurins1455 Ships like Sunesis, Gnosis and Praxis take literally zero skills to fly- because they are garbage. You can call them cool and fancy- but they are not tools you will win fights in. They are throw away ships for ganking and exploring. Player driven economy is a fairy tale. It does not exist. Also- you obviously do not understand that low prices are coming from the fact that huge corporations are having billions of m3 of newly mined ore daily- DAILY. They are the ones that are producing stuff and then flooding the market with it, driving the price down- not a new players with their "start campaign revards". For that you actually have to have new players. Selling ore is not industry. "High End industry" is broken and will never provide you with a isk benefit. What game are you playing man? Building huge ships are, at MINIMUM!!!, -25% loss of money in terms of you selling the ship vs selling the modules needed to made one. at least 40% loss in terms selling ship vs selling ORE. Do you know how to math? Damn man, take those rose tinted glasses off and smel the shit that is surrounding you in this game..... Also, I would like the tutorial on how to make 250mil per hour in T1 Caracal.
