People really don't understand that all it takes is one illness, medical emergency, lay off, car accident, etc.. to quickly go from a high income to a low income. You can own nice things and still be poor. I have expensive designer purses from when I was making a high income, they aren't new but I still love them, it doesn't mean I have money now. All of the stuff we have is because I'm the type of person who saves to buy quality because it lasts instead of buying a hundred cheap things and having to keep replacing them. You don't owe anyone an explanation of why you have nice things with a low income, people need to mind their own business and really stop to think before leaving stupid nasty comments. You are doing great mama, don't feel guilty, you deserve nice things.

It's also hard to get a good job because a lot of companies also aren't really hiring....like they are advertising for jobs just because they have to, but they already know who they want. Plus, if you're moving to a new area, it can be SO HARD to get established, which hurts the job hunt, as so much of job hunting is who you know.

Thank you! 15 years ago it happened to us when health insurance premiums doubled, power company took a massive rate increase, three family members had major surgery within two weeks and mine resulted in a week’s long hospital stay and month long home recovery with no sick leave or vacation benefits. We are finally to the point where all the damage that all caused is mostly behind us.

My trigger are the people who don’t understand you may have these things because they were gifted, purchased secondhand or even before you were, at some point, living in a higher income bracket. Keep doing you, the real ones will show up in support.

So true. I would dress like I have money at times when I literally had 5 bucks to my name. They were secondhand or just things I had before the going got tough.

Same. I subscribed just to stop people from giving her crap. Almost all our things are gifts over the years. We've only had to buy things as needed if something broke. We always try SO hard to get it used on fb marketplace first before looking new. I look around and my home is decorated based on gifts. No joke. And major furniture, almost all of it, are hand-me-downs from family. Even our dryer is.

Hey Evelyn! When I was in my late twenties, I lost my good paying job and had to start my life over again. I was a single woman, so I had no one that I could lean on. My parents were low income, and they couldn't help me either. I learned how survive by budget shopping and making meals at home. I didn't know how to cook, so I had to learn from watching cooking shows. I took a much lower paying job to pay the bills, but I worked on getting better skills, and eventually moved into better jobs. But even though now I am in a much better place, I still budget shop and make my meals at home! I just wanted to take a moment to say how very impressed I am with your resiliency, and finding a way to adapt. I really like how you make an effort in your shopping to buy healthy foods for your family while staying within your budget! While you might buy a few comfort foods here an there, you are being mindful about veggies and proteins. Very delicious foods can be made with good seasonings and planning! You're doing great, and I can't wait to see where your journey will lead you.

Until a few years ago, my family lived the upper middle class life. But then my dad suffered a heart attack and with the recent inflation, most of our money goes into paying bills, salaries, and loan EMIs. People think we are still well off. But we literally live paycheck to paycheck.

I'm Cuban too and old enough to be your mom. Listen, I know what the struggle is like. We are a one income family too and I am on disability for lupus. I struggle thinking of ways that we can make more money but God always seems to provide and we always make it to next month. You would think that at my age I'd be better off but no. Sadly, we live in South Florida. Everything is expensive here and I can't make a financial contribution because I am taking care of my baby granddaughter. I saw your Cuban cafetera and thought damn I like her. I also saw the Breville and thought good for her. Never any judgements from me. My husband actually did buy me one this Christmas and I returned it. I know people would think I'm crazy but it only serves two shots and I'm used to my other espresso machine making 4 cups at once so yeah. I like my Cuban coffee, lol. I can really relate to you and admire your hustle. Stay strong and don't pay no mind to the negative remarks. You seem to be doing a good job so far. Take care beautiful and God Bless!

Ladies, please do not get married to someone who isn’t stable in their life. Don’t get married while either partner is still in school. Don’t get pregnant without savings or stability. Don’t move away from family so your man can “pursue his dreams”. So much pain and instability can be avoided by avoiding these decisions. I know this will be taken as hate/negativity but it is sincerely coming from a place of concern about the future of young girls who make poor decisions that will affect their lives, and their children.. all in the name of love. My advice for this creator who has already made these decisions is to take online classes. You qualify for financial aid, and can take classes to pursue a degree.

I watched a couple of your videos so far as a new subscriber and have to admit your content is as real as it can get. In other words, you offer a glimpse into everyday life from your family's perspective, which so many others can relate. I believe you said this several times in some of your videos, but I agree that social media often highlights extravagant lifestyles that, more often than not, are too good to be true. There is usually a mask behind the real face that is not known when the camera is off. While there should be a healthy balance, too much of something like that gets old really quickly. Though I am just slightly older than you and do not have a family of my own, frugality is one area I can relate to an extent. It sometimes is good to remind myself when I need to be wise on money and use products to their full advantage, which takes a lot of willpower. I give you kudos for that. Life is never easy, and we all take different paths to achieve our own desires. You and your family are doing that, and what works for you may not work for someone else. And that is totally okay. You are so right that social media can be harmful to one's mental health, because people are so good to dish out negativity and criticism behind a screen and keyboard that I am sure most probably would never have the courage to say directly in person. In the end, you have to embrace it and still be you no matter what. I love your attitude on that. I look forward to watching more of your videos and new content in the future. Greetings from New Jersey. -Steven Gembara

As a creator myself I can relate to not wanting to be vulnerable but I 💯 agree that most social media isn't fun to watch because it's very fake. I think there can be a healthy balance like this. I am having my first baby in June this year. I live in a one bedroom apartment with my husband, pup, and kitty. We have a very similar story. Just going to nursing school and having lower paying jobs because you’re in school. There’s a ton of judgement I put on myself about raising my son here in this small home. But also just feeling judgement from others. But it just wouldn’t be financially smart to move to a large space considering how expensive rent is right now. But I know in my heart that this is just a season in life for us and that we are truly blessed. Thank you for sharing your story it’s admirable and wonderful to see someone the same age doing what we are doing! ❤ bless you and your family

I resonate so much with you regarding being the “fixer” and money anxiety. I’m thankful my husband and I have full time jobs, but like you said, jobs are not 100% secure. I’m constantly nervous either one of us will lose our jobs, and money will be tight. Everything is so expensive, and I don’t know how we would live off 1 income with having to pay mortgage, cars, student loans, bills, groceries, and baby supplies. So many people suffer due to financial stress and instability and it physically pains me because it shouldn’t be this hard to live a fulfilling life. Thank you for your transparency. I wish you and your family the absolute best. Keep being the genuine spirit you are ❤️

Honestly, there are people out there who are just nasty and bitter and you don’t need to make excuses for them. Going through hardships doesn’t have to make you a nasty or just outright mean person. That’s just how some people are and I have no empathy for them or need to understand them.

Evelyn, you're such a genuine gem that the world needs right now. Pls don't be hard on yourself, you've a lot on your plate and keep going. There's no doubt that you're gonna shine bright. Don't pay attenton to negative opinions; are they gonna help you? Pay your bills? I somehow want to you to ignore who are triggered, people in the same shoes are yours should be inspired by you, why so much hate? They should've the capability to feel you even more. Just keep up with your work. You're a great person, great mom, great wife. I love you! Trust me, this universe has a better plan for you ❤

Canadian here who who subscribed + can totally relate and is in similar situation (without kids though and not planning on having any, which sometimes feels like there's more pressure personally😅). You are such an inspiration, thanks for creating the content you create because this is the type of stuff that more people need to see and be more aware of ♡ Have you considered having a link(s) for donations? I think it would be a great option and would just open up another opportunity for people to contribute easily without feeling like you're being forceful or demanding of anything. Just giving more options for people to support, if that makes sense! ☺you are amazing, keep it up!

I get you Evelyn, I’m on low income and I completely understand! You are a great Mom and person! It’s definitely not fair that everyone is always judged for everything when God is the ultimate judge 😢it breaks my heart when good people are taken so wrongly from other jealous people ❤be calm always and hugs back to you because people who are rude just need a hug as well and you aren’t rude just clarifying that

I hear you. Life is crazy. When I was growing up I knew things were hard. But didn’t know how hard we actually had it. Single mom 3 kids. I being the middle. I have to work my ass off. Now I’m having a daughter. I want her to have and to make different choices and have choices I didn’t have.

I just came here to chime in that you have such a sweet and wholesome personality and as an empath myself I teared up along with you. I'll be honest- these types of videos aren't really apart of my algorithm here on KZbin (not that frugality and low income isn't relatable to me at all), but I subbed to you and wanted to let you kno I will be along for this your journey.

Hi Evelyn, amazing to hear your story. You’re so genuine, honest and hard working. Have you ever thought about moving somewhere other than the US? You can have a really lovely life in other countries that are less expensive then US and have healthcare/benefits from the government. There are a lot of digital no mad visa becoming available.

I’ve gone up and down the latter of being financially comfortable and low income. I went back to school so my income is not what it was a year ago and am now considered low income. It’s a negative label but people’s opinions don’t pay my bills so I lose no sleep over it. Hang in there! ✨

You'd be great as a sm consultant for low-income parent influencers. These are a growing category because there's such a big predominance of wealthy influencers that I think viewers feel a need to see a more realistic lifestyle reflected back to them.
