As an old drummer coming back into the fold ( I was self taught as a teenager ) I’m now doing lessons after a 30 year lay off and the improvement in a couple of months is amazing . Anyway Ive always been a huge admirer of yours Evelyn , fantastic percussionist who I have no Hope of ever matching . Long may you reign as the queen of percussion ( in my humble opinion)

I can hear your marimba playing in a lot of what you do! I used to play drums & percussions since I was a kid, but after about 9 years in with playing with the LSS Bateria I started loosing my hearing, I had grommets implants for about 15 years, then hearing aids in 2016! I picked up guitars now, I’ve been studying & practicing classical guitar at City Lit for about 9 years now, to tell you the truth I think I enjoy guitars more, but watching some of your KZbin stuff makes me think about getting back into drums & percussions as well, but I’m always weary about keeping the little Hearing I have left! I definitely have to come to one of your performances! I was always intrigued over the years whenever you pop up, & I bought one of your cassette tapes years ago, if remember the title of my head (rhythm Song) a lot of your marimba & percussion playing! I I to try to come to one of your performances, probably whenever you’re in London! Brilliant stuff!

AHHHHHHHHHH so awesome.. did i see a hint of a smile yea well you should smile... cause that was AWESOME.. but all that said the thing that concerns me is that i can listen to it all day long.. and binge watch all your videos.. . you really should say in the title "PLAY LOUD" even though this one was compressed/limited 25% by KZbin.. listening at the level of the drums at your position has a real effect on the senses, besides the fact that you sound like at least 4 people if not more.. AWESOME ...J

I don't know. With this I think she's operating at such a high level, that it's above me to be able to enjoy it. It sounds like a bunch of random notes without any musicality to me. I can see the overwhelming independance she has in her hands and the crazy technique, but it's beyond my comprehension to truly appreciate.

On the contrary, Christopher, I think Evelyn's playing is extremely musical here and instantly likeable. I would have a different problem: Evelyn's approach as a master percussionist is so different to what I am used to seeing and playing on a drum kit that I wouldn't know where to start to produce these wonderful sounds and rhythms.

this is actually reasonable. this has some insane polyrhythms and tempo changes going on, but it's very hard to get it to click if you don't have a really keen rhythmic sense. at points im actually pretty sure there is absolutely no discernible pulse, but then it converges beautifully. she really seems to experience rhythm and music in a fairly unique way (somewhat unsurpisingly) at times it feels more like a collection of interesting rhythms than a cohesive piece, which is really interesting if you're into that kind of stuff, but probably isn't for the casual listener

For instance I can't hear any randomness in this perfomance, but improvisation - yes. Yes, it's really high level of drumming, but definitely there are patterms, nice polyrhitmic structures and feeling in this. Many drum solos do not have that.
