I just saw this thumbnail. And I cried. Partly because you are back!!! And partly because my wife had brain surgery on Thursday the 20th. She is doing well and the tumor is gone, but it was most likely malignant. We have a journey ahead of us. Your own journey has given me faith that hope is NOT lost. Thank you for being a part of my life. I just finished a charmeuse skirt for my wife. I hope she will wear it to church on Sunday. I got to talk to you on a call in August and you really inspired me. Much love to you from America.

I hope you don't mind me commenting in reply to your message. I was just enjoying hearing Evelyn's update and thinking how inspiring she is, she's oozing positivity after a tough journey. Listening to her story was poignant too as I am now back on my feet after a crazy 10 months of dealing with and recovering from a serious health condition. Like your wife, I had to have brain surgery to remove a tumour. I'm here to tell the tale, 8 months following surgery, and I'm pretty much back to full health again. I am certain that a large part of the success and timing of my recovery was down to me keeping positive, refusing to get caught up in what ifs, to not let my body be impacted by stress hormones. And being well fed by my husband, filling me up with lots of good healthy food everyday. And also, resting. Pay close attention to the advice about how to manage energy. I'm sharing this to say to you both stay hopeful, try not to stress, eat well, take it easy, it'll help you both during the journey. All the best

Hi my 'cancer sister :) '. I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer June of 2023, I was not Triple Negative, but only just. The third and final test came back positive, so my cancer treatment was not as intense as you. But my cancer had spread to both breast and the lymph nodes. I had a double mastectomy and they took out a few lymph nodes as well......In fact right around the time you posted the video saying that Chemo had not gotten all of it and needed another round of chemo...my own oncologist said to me that I needed 14 cycles of a low dose chemo combined with immunotherapy......it was a comfort to me to see and hear you and your journey that was similar to me and my journey. So thank you for posting, it helped me to feel not so alone and realize that there is someone out there going through the same thing I am. :) Duuring my treatment I realized that sewing garments and quilts were very helpful to me. So I have been watching your videos, using your tips and tricks, finding 'sew with me' videos, and slowly learning how to sew. Its was the thing I needed to keep my mind distracted from all my 'cancer stuff'...its been a lifesaver! Some of your tips that were particularly helpful was; finding those patterns that truly are easy to sew and beginner friendly, Finished Garment size vrs Body Measurements, Fit vrs Ease, Homemade vrs Handmade, Understitching....so many helpful tips and tricks!! Along my journey I discovered the Walkaway Dress by Butterick. I would LOVE it if you did a "Sew With Me" video on the Walkaway Dress.. So far I have seen lots of videos of people who made the dress and showed the before and after product, but not step by step. I would like for you to do a step by step because you do Vintage Sewing, and it would be helpful if you could use a vintage pattern as well. I have heard that the new Butterick pattern for the Walkaway Dress is hard to follow.

Another youtuber I really liked passed away, then not long after I heard you got cancer, then not long after my favourite neighbour got breast cancer, and then a friend I've known online for years passed away, then I learnt another friend has non Hodgkin's lymphoma and the very next day I found out my uncle has prostate cancer. Now my senior dog needs surgery and if it doesn't resolve the problem he has there's a significant chance he'll live with a lot of pain and I'll have to consider whether that's going to be a life worth living for him. I just feel like cancer, suffering and d*ath is trying to reach out and touch me from all directions. So I can't fully express to you how much it matters to me to hear that you're cancer free. I’ve just celebrated 5 years since my HER2+ diagnosis (discovered on my 3rd year checkup after DCIS ductile carcinoma in situ treatment, so understand the curveball / plot twist situation); next year will be my 5-year post-treatment anniversary. I live in rural NZ, so had to travel to city (and stay for first few weeks) for treatment. I had a ‘to do’ list on my desk for many years, and after treatment decided the list had waited long enough. One of the items: learn to sew 😄. Went to some classes, bought the basic kit but find video tutorials SO HELPFUL. I didn’t even know how to use a machine before lessons, and only knew some very basic hand stitches. Thank you so much for all your sewing videos and sharing your cancer journey. ❤

Love your comment! ❤❤❤ I am coming up on 9 years since my initial breast cancer diagnosis. I had so many of the side effects, and the weird things that don’t happen to most people. I have pretty serious Lymphedema in my left hand and my left arm and I became allergic to most medications, including vitamins, and probiotics. And because of the chemo, radiation and surgery, I had to have other treatments and surgeries Including cataract lens surgery in both eyes, severe lung damage from the anesthesias, pericarditis, and radiation fried my thyroid and my faulty thyroid and chemo brain caused me to forget how to do so many things. It causes me to be pretty emotional to think about when I was afraid to leave the house because I would get lost a lot even when going to doctors appointments that I’ve been to many times. I forgot knowing people that I had known for years. I forgot how to crochet , knit and even thread my sewing machine for about 2 years after chemo and radiation. I had to relearn every thing and there are still many things I never regained or are still trying to learn again. And I had done sewing Alterations for over 25 years. I specialized in wedding and formal ware. So when I began watching Evelyn’s a few years ago, I was so excited to have someone so graciously explain the basics and her way of connecting with reviewers is so sweet. In the middle of central Pennsylvania, this is when grateful viewer. And I still go back in rewatch to help me remember even more.

I am so pleased for you. As a man that watched an entire generation pass away from cancer, and am still dealing with a cousin that is dying from that bad gene cancer (all of my mother's generation died with this bad gene cancer), and yet was fortunate enough to watch my sister thrive despite that bad gene (she is living proof you can beat it if you catch it early, she's nearing 8 years cancer free, and doesn't mourn her breasts; rather, she celebrates everything that was attached to them). I am beyond thrilled that you got through it, and are clearly thriving Evelyn. Best news this year!!!

Guessing BRCA? About 20 years ago I was lucky to learn from a cousin to test for it & able to have preventative surgeries (as my sister later did too, and some other cousins), since many older cousins had died due to ovarian cancer. So glad options for risk assessment, detection & treatment continue to improve!

@@sus8e462 or that newly-discovered nasty that's going through my husband's family, PALB1. If you've got breasts and you've got that gene, you're going to get cancer. (And the men cop stuff too). Yay for research, yay for science, F&#$ cancer.
@shopwornbear11716 ай бұрын
@@sus8e462 It was/is. My sister had her potentially lethal bits removed to prevent it from returning. Unfortunately for my cousin, she didn't get tested, and by the time she found out, it had spread into her organs and metastasized. She's got months left, but is battling despite it all. I've come up negative for both BCRA1 and 2, but was warned that I've still got to be vigilant (especially with pancreatic cancer) even without that genetic pre-disposition due to my family history. I'm just grateful my sister had really small breasts. It made it impossible for the lump to hide, and she got it dealt with swiftly. Her greatest moment as a woman she said was donating her bra to the "thriver" wall and ringing that bell after she got the all clear. She rang it again when she passed the seven year mark. She, like so many, had a long battle to keep herself on the right side of healthy, but she's living proof that early detection saves lives; especially with this type of cancer. Evelyn's triumph gave me a reason to smile; despite not knowing this fine young woman. She showed cancer the door and can now resume living her best life. Inspiring.
@shopwornbear11716 ай бұрын
@@sus8e462 BTW. I am soooo sorry you had to go through all that to prevent cancer from being a potential threat, but I'm happy to know you won't have that worry facing you. I can imagine how tough a decision that was (or is for any woman facing down the barrel of that gun), but could never know at the same time. No man ever could as we, with the exception of maybe breast cancer, do not have to deal with that level of physical trauma. Sure, those men affected do have some serious worry, and they can't exactly give a guy a pancreatic removal as a preventative measure, but we never have to look in the mirror and deal with the aftermath of a double mastectomy, or having our womb and associated parts removed just so we can prevent that from happening. I'm tearing up a little at the thought remembering my sister, while dealing with my mother in a hospital fighting for her life, and her dog battling (and losing that battle) cancer in her teats at the same time she was facing her own battle...how stoic she was, but deep down dealing with the losses just to try and stay healthy. I'm sure you're a much stronger person for it, and likely further removed from that initial emotion anyone in your situation would be dealing with; but that doesn't make it simpler or less of a trauma. Big supportive hugs and a high five for showing cancer it wouldn't be taking you down!!

Yes, cancer journeys can sure make one re-evaluate life, and obtain gratitude, and awareness of what we all take for granted. SO, all I can say is THANK YOU for sharing your cancer journey with the world, and I'm VERY happy that you came thru it as well as you did!!! I just LOVE your ADORABLE short hair style on you... VERY PERKY... although you'd be hard pressed to not look sweet, even bald you were lovely with that wonderful smile, of what seems like gratitude. I just 'discovered' you this morning, I watched the video you made about the basics of fabric (warp, weft, bias), which was very helpful for me, and now I want to watch your other videos, mainly to see if you have instruction on how to adjust patterns for heavier bodies. I live on an extremely limited social security budget, so I truly appreciate your KZbin videos, because I can afford them :D Blessings to you for the rest of your life, and I'll be looking forward to seeing your videos in your new WORK STUDIO you're having built... I'm EXCITED for you!!! :)

Oh was I ever thrilled to see your video pop up on my i-pad! Every time I looked to see whether there was an update from you and found none, I thought of you battling along. And I hoped and prayed that your treatment was helping you to overcome this terrible onslaught. I am so so happy for you and send you all my love and best wishes. I really missed you like an old friend although I am thousands of miles away in southern Germany. Get strong! Stay strong! Thankyou for sharing your journey, your joy at recovery and your enthusiasm for things to come!!

My journey started on December 23 in 2022 and I hear me in your words. First chemo didn't go as expected so we sped up and on surgery they only had to remove the tumor, nothing else. My treatment ended in September 2023, except I have to take anti hormon pills for at total 5 years. Right now I'm also cancer free and I'm happy for both of us (and all the other survivors) and hope there's a looong future ahead 🤞Giving up is no option!

I just found your youtube channel. I'm a lifelong seamstress, but also a lifelong learner. Now I know why all the video's I've watched have been older. I'm so glad you have beaten the horrible big C and am looking forward to the future ones. I'd love a video on button holes!
