Steve is voiced by Matt Chapman. Only in his first appearance in Season 1 was voiced by Alex Hirsch, as he was just a faceless guard, not intended to become a recurring character. The crew decided to bring Steve back as a "real" character with his own voice actor and design because so many fans enjoyed him in that one scene in s1.

This might be what they're going with but I don't think that's true. I remember reading the Adventure Time Wikipedia page during the first or second season and it said something about Marcy and PB being exes, but when I told people and went back to the page it was gone. I think they were always supposed to be gay, but due to censorship at the time, they had to really dance around it. If somebody got fired over that, I'm thinking it would have been a PR issue, not a canon issue.

Thing is, Rebecca Sugar was a writer of that episode and the sole write of the song so there's no way it was not intended to be a queer song at least a little bit. Furthermore, idk where you got the info from someone was fired for implying a relationship between them because Rebecca was also the one to pitch the idea of them being exes in the first place, which was approved but they couldn't explicitly say anything due to censorship
