You have made a huge difference in my life. Things like that sound crazy but let me explain. I'm a disabled vet, I stumbled in leather work one day in hobby lobby. Your channel was one of the first I saw. One of your patterns was free, so it was my first. Nothing I made was of high quality, but I fell in love with the process. I have self harm issues, survivors guilt. The process felt amazing because the bad stuff went away. I have bought patterns, made gifts, made a wallet if my own design for myself. Thank you for all you do, it really does make a big difference for me.

I love that you said we can use your patterns to make things to sell! In my many years as a maker I have been disappointed by that stipulation on the hundreds of patterns I’ve bought for sewing, quilting, knitting and on and on. It’s generous and kind of you to teach and share. You guys make excellent footage. I like that you get straight to the point with just enough fun banter. 😊🎨❤

Your project videos are great but I really appreciate when artists show their actual working spaces, show things that didn't work out as planned and talk about how they do business. Even though this is a hobby for me and I don't intend to make a business of it, hearing how someone else is able to make a living, and thriving, doing creative things makes my stuck in a corporate world heart happy.

When I first started watching your videos I thought you were “ just” a talented artisan Then I saw glimpses. This video just confirms you are a modern day “ hippie”. I was born in 1960 so in my mind this is not a bad thing🙏 Your reverence for the Vietnam war is pretty amazing.

I would also love to see that second channel! But I also totally understand the anonymity issues with anxiety - I can't even handle people I actually know some days coming up to me when I leave the house. Always love the wallet and bag vids, they really help me stay excited on crafting, but I'll be honest - I found you last year or so because of the leather cup video, so the stuff like that that's kinda more out there might be my favorite. I'm always looking for that next dopamine high from learning something new...

I would love to see more stuff from you in second channel format of some kind. I would love a more business oriented video as I'm just starting to get clients for leatherwork and I always feel like I'm underselling my own value after the fact.

What helped me realize my worth was having someone else sell my stuff now and then. Let them price it. Soon you’ll see it sell at their prices and you’ll adjust yours.

@nicholaskillmeier4895 Жыл бұрын
@@flashpointbravo That's good advice. Same thing happened to me early in knifemaking. I was selling fairly high end knives for like $150 just to get things going early, and local sellers asked for batches to re-sell. They were just flipping them for like $275. So after that, I raised my prices and got out of that wholesale market for now. If they can't sell it, or they over sell it, either outcome will teach you something about your product.

Not sure if y'all use an external mic on the cameras, but I would recommend the Deity D4 Duo mic. You can set it to record from the front and back of the mic, making your speech much more clear when behind the camera. It's $50 on Amazon, and works amazing for me when I film short films and such. It doesnt require anything special. Just plug it into the camera, and youre good to go. Just make sure the jack is plugged into the OUTPUT part of the mic and not input.

My dad has his Seiko watch that he wore during one of his tours in Vietnam…it’s the same model you have there like Martin Sheen wore in Apocalypse Now. Such a cool watch and the look is so much in keeping with the aesthetic of the era. I have a photo of him wearing it while looking down the sights of his M60 while flying over the highlands of northern S Vietnam with his flight helmet with blacked out face shield. And another where the watch is visible along with a couple big chunky silver rings and an old school poke your own hole type can of Budweiser kicked back with tiger stripe camo on and wearing a smooth looking hat with one side of the brim pinned up against the side. I forget what he called it…. But he looked like a badass in the pic and apparently liked that hat a lot but had lost it somehow…until a few years back when the daughter of one of the men he served with contacted him and said her father had passed but he had a hat with a note on it to give it back to (dads nickname) which he planned to do at their next reunion. Somehow her father ended up with his hat all the way back in ‘69 and he still had it and knew who it belonged to. So that hat is now hanging alongside his watch. The watch is sitting on a shelf he has with some of his memorabilia from his time in the Army. He did a tour as a forward observer, then ended up being told to raise his hand one day only to find out that he’d just volunteered to learn how to be a door gunner. Apparently they were very short on door gunners because it’s not an easy job that everyone is good at…and they had a pretty high casualty rate due to the pace of operations and the inherent dangers of hanging out the side of a gunship in combat. He only ended up in 3 crashes so seems like it was pretty safe. Lol! Anyway, his watch is posted up on his shelf next to a sweet pair of gold plated aviator sunglasses which unfortunately have not aged well…the ear pieces look to be similar to Bakelite and have apparently given in to years of UV exposure and are just crumbling to pieces. The watch is in relatively decent shape but needs to be cleaned and gone thru. It’s on a thick leather bracelet that looks to have been handmade by someone somewhere…. It’s very late 60s early 70s in it’s style. Single piece bracelet so the watch sits on leather. I’m thinking about recreating the band in a slightly less bulky and wide version for a watch I have in a similar style. Sorry, seems like I hade something relevant yo say about the watch but got sidetracked rambling on about the old man. My bad.

Thank you for what you do! I have learned so much from your channel. I’ve always loved leather and the smell of leather. Here in the last year or so I have started working with leather as a hobby. I am now thinking that I will supplement my retirement by selling leather wallets, passport cover, checkbook etc. I have several of your patterns and really liked them. I have some cape buffalo hide that my dad harvested when he went to Africa several years ago and have made several items with it and it is really nice hard to work with but really nice.

lol, your reason for wanting to learn how to make moccasins is the same as mine. Finding Size 14EE shoes is hard. :) I just finished my first pair (for the grandson, smaller feet so less cost to error) Ill say right now, most of the videos I watched on hard sole moccasins were wrong or incorrect in some manner. I did find a site with good info and will be starting a pair for the wife this weekend. Trying a different method of sewing the uppers to the soles plus she wants a rubber sole attached so that will be a new step. After that I plan on starting to work the pattern for mine. Let me know of you want any pointers, email is in my profile.

I'm in the middle of trying to make small gifts for my family and found that I am having a lot of trouble using the leather I ordered online. It's all thin( 1-2 mm) upholstery pieces and all chrome or oil tanned. The feel is great, but it's so soft that stitching is a challenge and beveling esp. is not even possible. Can I use something to make the edges firm enough to bevel? I would like to know what will work as a stiffener for a wallet with this soft chrome?
