Back to Pika screws. I handed the screw to my father in law who is a master diamond setter, professional 2nd generation jeweler and accomplished woodworker specializing in complex large work. Then asked him how he’d tighten it in a counter sunk hole with a threaded insert in the wood. Lots of ideas came up that were quickly rejected. Told him to press down in screw center with his finger nail and showed him driver tool. Instant recognition of an amazing work of engineering. We spent next half hour discussion options for his next project. After that we tried to figure out how they are made. I think I know but have no plans to take one apart. I’ll be back for more. Christmas stocking stuffers for my engineering friends.

First of all, Muchas gracias (thank you), for the fact that you never stop improving what you have already done well. Second congratulations on helping the rest of us realize that anything is possible once we start working towards a goal.😊

Another source of friction is the bushing that rides up against the screw threads. There is no thrust bearing surface between the bushing and the ground end of the threads. Ideally the threads would end in a boss to bear against the bushing face perpendicular to the shaft. This is not easy to achieve. A complex thread cut could leave material for a full circumference boss; a circlip at the end of the thread with a thrust washer might work although there is not much diameter to work with. A weld and grind would also work. It is an awesome vice with some challenging design problems that you have by and large overcome.

Your bearing could be designed in such a way that it could be repurposed as bandsaw guides. You get two products for the price of one.

What timely video... I was looking for an update on the order I placed for the Micro Pica screws. No need for an email then. Great! But now I have to finally order the vise so I can benefit from the 25% discount!

Do you thinks it is possible to mount one of your vises to a linear guide rail? Specifically these FA-SGR-35 Series - Heavy Duty Linear Bearing Slide Rails

Good grief. If I didn't have the gears, bearings, lead screws, hubs, axles, and SketchUp model already in process....I would jump on this deal. Man. Andy, I'm going to find something in your store to buy, now or later....or whenever I finish rebuilding this Unisaw. LOL

I feel like I need to buy the vice before I build my bench now. Even if it sits on the shelf for a year, as long as I can hide it from my wife, I’ll be good.

For serious, it'd be cool to see how much travel it could get through if you swapped the handle for a wheel and gave it a spin.
