Andreev Bozhidar is one of the most accomplished weightlifters in the world. But at the 2023 World Weightlifting Championships the Bulgarian 81 struggled to get his lifts past the judges. Two times his lifts were given white lifts by the judges before the jury intervened and overturned them. So what does he do? Smash the final lift of the competition before hitting a defiant backflip. Epic.

The jury is a huge reason imo why weightlifting is dying as a sport. I despise everything about what they do. Kick out the press out. At the very least, we need to make unanimous calls (three whites) protected against jury overturns.
@SpartanSnatch
@SpartanSnatch 6 ай бұрын
If the press out gets kicked,there will be many attempts in which there is going to be an earthquake up there(it will remind you of crossfit) and be given as a good lift and it wont be fair for those who are stable and even train to achieve that consistency.However i understand that numerous great technicians get red lights just for the press out and it seems unfair.

That was one of the worst jury overturns ever. He hit the snatch at 158 - period. Would have had a bronze in the total if not for that. Especially because there's simply no such thing as a "press-out" in the snatch for crying out loud. His 195 jerk was absolutely fine as well.

I’m glad someone else said this. I love your work Seb but it always irks me when you say this guys name backwards. Anyway he’s been great for a decade competing internationally when he was a 56 kg 14 yr old. He blew me away first time I saw him 2016 Europeans 6 for 6,153-191 in the old 77 class. I’d love to see him win a worlds title and get an Olympic medal the only things he hasn’t done.

What is the deal with the jury? Andreev did a phenomenal job. Also WH is so good with the production and editing of their videos. I love seeing the back room lifting. And thoroughly enjoy the commentary from Seb and Max. I don't know when they'll bless us with their commentary again. But they did an exceptional job in Saudi Arabia.

Ah yes, the sport of not slightly moving your elbow. As always. Next time someone asks me at the gym "Mate, how do I do this snatch thing you're doing?" I will of course reply "Mate, you've got to not move your elbows and that's it, aside of accessory work".

Do you even lift bro? Seriously though. There are a lot of times I didn't hit a weight that I was able to press out. The press out allows you to be slightly shallow in your jerk height and still lift the weight.

It just seems to me that we have not improved much since 1973 when the best lifts at the World Championships at 82.5 Kg were 160 Kg snatch and 192.5 Kg C&J. Were they "juiced"? Probably. Are we "juiced" today? Probably - just different "juice" that we have not yet found a way to detect.
@The1juhi
@The1juhi 6 ай бұрын
Difference is, 1973 you could juice with much more freedom. Nowadays you have to juice in somewhat secrecy, or least make an effort to not get popped. Also during competition, lifters need to be cleaner than in 1973. Also, doping control back in the days probably couldn't detect many of the substances used.
@johndoherty-hh2ck

I think 1976 was the first year anyone got busted for juice. A handful of guys including Blagoev silver medalist at 82.5 were dirty. A couple of Americans , Cameron and Grippaldi, my heroes as a teenager got nailed. Alexeev of USSR had the best drugs. He cl&jkd 255 catching the clean above parallel. Montreal Olympics

Considering how much every other sport has advanced in the last 50 years it does seem like the drugs they were able to use and for the durations they were able to use them was better than what is not caught today.
