Those are my favorite memories of my pops. We fed the birds and squirrels together. We put warm water out when it was freezing. You wouldn't believe the diversity of birds that would pass by on their migration. Cowbirds, Finches , Blue Jay's, Sparrow Hawks, Juncos, Grackles, Woodpeckers,Humming-birds, Doves, our besties the cardinals and so many others. The squirrels would take peanuts off our sleeping Golden Retriever's nose 🤭We would watch with his WW2 field glasses and check off new visitors in our books. We were doing this in Chicago, Illinois so you could probably get visitors almost anywhere. Put some feeders and a birdbath outside. There are small ones you can hang on a branch... I highly recommend this for everyone. Enjoy God's gifts 🐦 🐿

I did this as well...started with the large oblong tub .then 2 tubs, then dug 8 ft. Dia. Pond with lilies, gold fish, turtles, frogs ! But my HOA back😮ward Town didn't approve!! Heartbroken; I'm 80 and crippled and the real pond was easier (and more fun!) to keep up ...the backyard is fenced with locked gate, fish and frogs EAT mosquito eggs, frogs eat the mosquitoes for sure, giant blue heron visited. I don't understand yet why the objection.

Sadly i can't make a pool in my 'garden' but i have 1 wild bee hive in a self made 'house' and a pond, last year 2 ducks with their 3 ducklings were living there till winter i don't know where they are now and of course the last inches of my so called 'garden' is a drinking fountain for the cats near by. I live in Germany near by Regensburg so we don't have bears near by :(
