Der Tatra 813 ist schon ein geiles Fahrzeug,gibts nix. Doch für mich persönlich ist der MAN Faun 6x6 oder 8x8 ein Tick besser. Ich hab selber einen 6x6 und 8x8 gekauft. Und ich setze sie regelmäßig bei Truck Trials ein. Mit Erfolg.

Saubere Sache,soviel mal zu "antiquierter Technik" was nützt es dem 30 Jahre jüngeren Mercedes,das er 600 PS und sonstwas für tolle features hat,nix. Tja,die haben in der CSSR schon vor gut 40 Jahren Maschinen gebaut,die auch heute noch zeigen können,wo der Hammer hängt ! Super

I saw T813 to get out of much worse than what is shown in this movie. It only needs to select the right tyres, and most importantly driver who knows how to use his gearbox.

Looking at that big differential and other stuff down low in the center and I thought the aircraft landing gear design might offer a better solution so I looked up some immages. Imagine a shaft going down, telescoping if needed, to give power to each bogie. A separate differential between each of the two wheels if there are 2 wheels. All this on a B-52 basic design with either 2,3, or 4 bogies on each side. The center can be for cargo.

Not what I was thinking. See the thumbnail of "Hummer Racing Team, Folge … Der Race-" with lots of metal between 2 wheels that can high-center the vehicle. I was thinking of a vertical bar for each bogie. It would rotate for steerning like landing gear. Inside would either be a shaft (or hydralic lines?) for power. The center, unlike a B-52 would be far above the ground & for cargo. 4 two wheel bogies as in the B-52, or one 2 wheel at each corner, & 1 or 2, or 4 wheel bogie in the center.

Well, the Tatra is not build to drive through sinkholes. Its an oldtimer as well. Build in Czechoslovakia (at this time member of the former USSR) from 1962 to 1982. Compared to its youth and power, Mercedes wasn't that much better anyway. Tatra has still the best design for this type of vehicles.

People make them into off-road adventure mobiles for African safaris. They can be used to carry camping equipment and supplies, with lots of water jugs, trunks full of various stuff like tents, extra diesel fuel, maybe a small generator or two, and assorted other gear, plus kayaks or a small boat (on top), etc. Some people build campers out of them (like a small, off-road RV), and some people use them for off-road work trucks for surveying, mining, etc. There are really a thousand uses for them.

@zdrux Military, for the most part. The Czech army has lots of them. They're unbelievable off-road trucks, although the long overhang on the front end can be a problem sometimes. This guy needed better tires, too - his lugs kept getting filled with mud and clay.

You have to ask the driver. He can adjust the tire pressure remotely on demand.

You should repower one with a big electric motor and some batteries. It would be the perfect project vehicle, and it could be solar powered. You could include a pair of folding VAWT, for night-time charging! A 20 Kilowatt diesel generator could be used to extend the range. I bet you could put two or three Kilowatts of solar panels on top of one of these beasts, and more than two dozen 8-D truck batteries on board.

Yeah because shifting the wheelbase, resizing the suspension to fit, redoing the 8x8 transmission and somehow ignoring the uh, engine that needs room in the front is mighty easy. Engineering is easy. The problem here is the driver, not the truck.
