VEKTOR is the latest audiovisual installation by renowned light artist Christopher Bauder at KRAFTWERK Berlin. EventElevator took the chance to talk to the lighting visionary about his current, breathtaking laser installation. In the interview, he gives an insight into the technology used and the passion of his own teams from WHITEvoid and KINETIC LIGHTS. The physical momentum of a kinetic installation is a sensual, holistic experience that is far more deeply moving than current immersive exhibitions that rely „only“ on spatial projection.
In his most personal work to date, Bauder fuses kinetic light from 50 moving lasers into the negative space with a self-composed three-dimensional soundscape to create a synaesthetic work of art. Winches developed in-house by KINTEC LIGHTS are responsible for the ultra-precise movements of the futuristic custommade laser pods. Bauder composed also the soundtrack for the installation himself. A 30-channel L-Acoustics L-ISA sound system is used to create an immersive sound feeling that is precisely matched to the movements of the installation. I visited it three days ago. Really a very impressive experience. A perfect synthesis of light, space and music. Everything is so perfectly and smoothly synchronized. It creates such a unique and beautiful atmosphere.

Yes, we hope we were able to capture just a small part of this fantastic art installation. But it is definitely a MUST to experience it for yourself, because the impact of the industrial venue in combination with the futuristic laser movements plus the immersive music is a "whole body" experience. Christopher Bauder also has a permanent exhibition space called DARK MATTER. So if you're ever in Berlin, this is your spot. On the other hand, many of Bauder's elements can also be seen in touring and concert designs (such as ABBA Voyage or Bon Iver).

You're right. It's an incredible place for super-dark, technoid projects. Imagine Christopers Bauder crew was asked to create a club design for a Hollywood crew. That would be brilliant.

Yes, you really have to experience it live. It's an insane impact when the moving laser pods move through the hall and the 50 lasers scan and atomize through the hall. The precision of winch technology is just magical, so delicate.

Christopher Bauder and his crews simply create extremely futuristic installations. This is techno Berlin in art form. The first live performances have already taken place. Bauder himself controls the light to the music with a self-made touch panel. Super sci-fi.
