Man, why all the hate on this video? Apparently a bunch of jerks like to watch eventide demos. This guy seems cool enough and into the gear, give him a break man.
@fishguru7313 жыл бұрын
There's nothing wrong with effects because an intricate melody can be made more full with an instant back up orchestra. If someone doesn't know how the effect will react then they can actually screw up the effect by playing wrong. It actually comes back down to musical fundamentals.

The Eventide DSP4500 is two H3000s in one box - both use Motorola 68000 CPUs which where also used by Mac classic, Atari ST, VariLite and by Zanussi in washing machines 10 years ago - seriously old tech! The Eclipse is several orders of magnitude faster in processing speed.

Eventide has the best algorithms, nothing compares. It even does a great guitar amp simulation, which is amazing, because it's a studio effects processor.
@PrinceWesterburg4 жыл бұрын
To say thats two H3000's in a box is ludicrous - the H3000 used the 68000 CPU found in the first Apple Mac and Atari ST, then later in Zanussi washing machines - and that was decades back! The DSP power in the Eclipse is orders of magnitude greater. If it isn't then please send me the Arduino file and I'll make my own! :D

Oh my, I could listen to you playing this thing all day. Really nice clean tones, wierd effects and delays. It sounds so clear, yet smooth and spacious. Sounds great through headphones. So, suggestion for next vid, just play through all those sounds for ages with no talking just so I can listen all day, k? Sounds fair? Or send me one of these units as a prezzie so I can! Again, more than fair I think :-P Good vid.

@Doomzdayxx Thats alright, I feel that the poor sample rate of the video is helping the Eclipse sound better than it is by rounding off top end. The GuitarFX is a fine unit, I want to try one but I'm pretty much sold on the Rack Eleven. Having played one, my first intuition was to take my headphones off as I couldn't believe it wasn't coming from a cabinet.
@3Deity13 жыл бұрын
@Doomzdayxx I promised I would never utter this but; The AxeFX 'can' emulate guitar amps, 'does' make the evolutionary step into synthesis (Hurrah!) and 'could' therefore emulate violin, piano, flute etc. How much work is a guitar amp to model from a guitar string, so why not change that string to one on a violin etc? So yeah, I agree that the AxeFX may excel in this field way beyond what Eventide kit does!
@MICKEYISLOWD5 жыл бұрын
I definitely recognised the Ballerina setting Steve Vai used from Passion and Warfare...lol. One of the most inventive tracks ever recorded.
@Doomzdayxx13 жыл бұрын
@3Deity I can say that the axfx is nothing short of amazing as far as perfectly emulating any amp/cab combination that you can think of. The only drawback I see with the axfx is the hefty pricetag(especially for Europeans) but alot of people will tell you that it is worth every penny
@dejvid1412 жыл бұрын
Depends for what you want it, I guess. I'm personally looking here because I want something that can do wacky sounds - this looks like it can do them. That said, presets are usually there to show you what a unit is capable of doing.

It doesn`t come with footswitch, but you can use all kind of midi footswitches, as Roctron All Axess..Behringer fc1010..or like hundreds of similar footswitches, or if you have an floor multiefx like..let say Tc Electronic Nova that have midi out, you can use that one also to change presets,

Everytime I buy an FX processor, I have to program from scratch. Not so with the Eclipse. I want one.
@Doomzdayxx13 жыл бұрын
@3Deity I'm not sure. I have seen people post on the Fractal message boards that they can get their axfx to sound just as good, and better in some cases, as their eventide, and as for the 11 rack, I have only seen demos, but on message boards you will see a general consensus that axfx sounds better and is more versatile that 11 rack, and not saying the 11rack sounds bad at all, but it comes down to how much exactly do you want to be able to tweak your sounds.

@Petrasilchen There are plently of guitar players who still make good use of effects. No arguments there. But I think there is a greater proportion of players who use effects to cover up their lack of skill. So long as there is skill behind it, effects can add alot, but I just don't see that as often.

@Doomzdayxx I've seen people selling the Eleven for about £575 while the AxFX is £2,500? Have you played both? I really like the AxFX's impulse reverb feature. Just looked at the AxFX website again, they only had jazz guitar demos previously (I went 14 months without internet) but I see what you mean about Eventide like effects. Are these impulse based or real though? You can get impulses of all Eventide stuff but of course editing it is impossible.

@JimboMansonMB1 It's a short one sentence comment on youtube mate. Enough people got it not to be offended over it. I didn't imply anything, it's just true from what i've seen that some players way overuse effects to cover up the fact that they're not that good. Some of my favorite players use them. A Mexican duo, Rodrigo y Gabriela use a "wah" effect every once in awhile, but it's sparingly. Enough to make it interesting. Just the one that came with my amp.
@3Deity13 жыл бұрын
I didn't know the H3000 was one effect at a time! The DSP4500 is two H3000s in a single box but don't tell me that the Eclipse, with all it's obvious regenerative chain effects, is just two H3000s! I know you guys are really intelligent types but, please, put a proper demo together! :o) Personally I'd use a valve amp for tone (or Rack Eleven) then use the Eclipse post microphone to a stereo amp so I have three cabinets for ultimate purity of both tone, effect or ability to plug in an acoustic.

That's sort of how I am. I would rather spend money on lessons or some way to develop as a player. I'm not going to lie, things like this can be fun, but for me it's WAY more interesting to see what I can do with the guitar without the aid of effects.

@JimboMansonMB1 (stupid character limit) but yeah, when I play the same thing without it I sometimes notice a small error. Sometimes that gives it character with distortion, but if i'm out of practice it can sound pretty terrible (in my opinion) when on clean. Like I said, effects can be good when used right. But too many people only learn sometime small, and then just dick around with effects to make the same chords/notes sound different.

Hello, great sound!!! I believe this is an amazingly sounding unit but I have heard from an experienced user that the Eventide is slow to change presets in a live setup. I wonder if you have experience in using it on stage with a midi controller and if you agree with that comment. If this is an actual shortcoming, is it possible to overcome it anyway? Thank you

@rocknrollguru23 "All the effects to make even the crappiest guitar players sound awesome" definitely implies a hostility towards those who use a lot of effects. Fewer people than you think use effects to cover up their mistakes, they're generally used by people to create sounds and textures in music that you can't make with distortion. What distortion do you use? A nice overdriven amp won't cover up your mistakes, it will accentuate them because of an increased level of both volume and gain.
@3Deity13 жыл бұрын
@Doomzdayxx - True, but then Eclipse is not an amp modeller. Thats like comparing a Ferrari and a tractor.
@NoelGrassy13 жыл бұрын
@janethorson333 It uses effects with very complex and large algorithms [sp?]. This machine is light years away from being limiting. Save for the tedious UI. But once you get that classic treatment of space with Eventide's delays you'll completely forget about the serious Green you had to plunk down. Nothing sounds like an Eventide. I'm hardly a "fanboy" but I've been digging their products since they were called Eventide Clockworks just because of their rich delay. True story!

If your AXE FX is so vastly superior to the Eclipse - then why are you still wasting your time seeking out obscure Eventide effects demo videos. AxeFx owners are by far the ones complaining about the Eclipse the most in the comments. Eclipse owners seem extremely satisfied with what they have and do not come across as angry and hateful like the Legions of AxeFx Warriors. Definitely appears to be a high rate of "AxeFx Buyers Remorse Syndrome" out there. You made the decision to buy it so its your our own fault that your guitar now sounds indistinguishable from every other AxeFx user.
@MICKEYISLOWD5 жыл бұрын
OMG you are so correct. I burst out laughing reading your comment because I suddenly realized why AXE FX users are so opinionated and bloody angry all the time. They saw all the flashing lights, buttons and fancy displays and made the purchase but then began to realise the AXE FX doesn't sound as good as the whopping price tag suggests it should do!!! After a few months of using their very expensive purchase they then again have to convince themselves that it sounds as good as the whopping price suggest it should do. Because there is a disparity between the two they become a little heartbroken and then much frustrated because almost all of us recognise nearly two grand is a god dammed lot of money! They expected the AXE FX to be a match for a Mesa Triaxis which it is not even close too whilst also being a match for a...Matchless, Carvin Belair or Fender Twin for clean tube sounds. I can understand their sadness because I also have suffered from buyers remorse before but not to the tune of thousands of dollars or Pounds Sterling...ouch!!

@Doomzdayxx Okay, I will do some more research and track one down to play. Cheers for the tip. The AxeFX and Eleven are >CHEAP!< I mean, a classic Boss Chorus pedal is now £140, Green TS - £220?!? So by the time I put a MXR Phase 90 in the mix and a few others you've already spent as much as an Eleven, then add one amp.. I have a real Marshall Super Bass head, totally useless! Bloody noisy, no 'tone' it just barks. Horrible. Mint, yours for £2,500.
